    Well put Mondos, nice post.

Here is a edited version of 'PlaneWhore the Movie', I only needed to scan the first few minutes to give me what I wanted, sad really.

He's good at bombing I'll give him that, but it's just milking the system as far as I'm concerned.

Mandos_2k, really nice post with all sincerity, especially since you are a pilot.

Haha, nice video cut, how many hours did spend piecing that work of art together?

You're missing the point of that video, just like most people missed the point of the video in this thread. PW - The Movie isn't about "leet dogfighting" or "look at me!" as the only purpose of that video was to show efficient killing during a single round and how a pilot should best operate the map. Although, I must say I filmed that in one attempt, and as a combination of FRAPS lag and other factors I ended slightly below my norm of 70-0.

Let me sum up what was important in PW - The Movie:

Fact #1) The enemy bomber was grounded almost the entire game (regardless if I shot it down, or killed it during take off). This is a very powerful vehicle that even a newbie could kill massive amounts of teammates with, and priority number one for me.

Fact #2) The MEC helicopter was grounded almost the entire game. Again, another very powerful vehicle and something that is worth base raping during take off to keep it that way.

Fact #3) The MiG pilot was an idiot who ended up at the bottom of the scoreboard and if anything it's a good thing I left him alone to continue to suck. Path of least resistance.

Fact #4) Baseraping is a very good way to deplete the enemy tickets, and to hamper the operation of the enemies most powerful vehicles and demoralize those who pilot them.

Fact #5) I won the game for my team, and I have absolutely no doubt that if I was MEC side MEC would've won hands down. Which is the goal of this video, and should be the goal of any team oriented pilot.

Have fun clipping off portions where I'm raping the base or keeping the AA newbies in check, but bottom line is it was actions like mine which provided my team with a victory.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

          Gentlemen. Dogfight in pre-1.2-patch began
Youre against F-35B- after 10 seconds
Youre against F-18- after 13 seconds
Youre against J-10- after 13 seconds
Youre against MiG- after 13 seconds
Youre against any bomber- as soon as you engage one

Dogfighting in BF2 prepatch was a contest of skills, maneuvers, killer instinct and 6th sense (after you lose him from your LOS in the final third part of a turn).

Why those seconds? Those are the afterburner timers. After a plane is dry, hes voulnerable to any attack from a missile that you make when he changes his turn. Any other way than to get a kill from a created opportunity, such as using a 100% effective weapon, is madness.

I liked Wargimps war story, but remember gentlemen- when you climp at 90 degrees, there is no speed limit, thus F-18 is equal to J-10 at that specific part. If there would have been a competent pilot flying the J-10, Wargimp would have been screwed. As soon as F-18 exits vertical climb, its afterburner turn speed equals J-10s non afterburner turn speed. Also its speed is superior. With some throttle control, an immelman by itsself wouldnt save you. Although I agree that usinh your brain is the key for survival. But if you dont know what your plane can and cant do, that wont help much.

I stand by my opinion that a hard turn, or a succession of maneuvers containing simple maneuvers should ditch a missile. The reason for this is. Hard turns waste afterburner, and once the afterburner is gone, youre open for an attack. During those maneuvers you have a chance. Now the time of survival has been reduced. For example. Even a newbie could stand long enough against an experienced pilot prepatch. In the end he was still a target practice, of course. But he had a chance to doge all 6 missiles even when he was out of flares. I believe that in time of trouble flares alone shouldnt be the only card you have to cheat death.

All my skills in dogfights came via playing and marking down what I can and cant do. When the only thing to remember is to not to let anyone behind you, things dont look that fun. Although, agreed, theres hazard and adrenaline in chasing now, but the same adrenaline and hazard was before patch 1.2 aswell. The only difference is- prepatch, that adrenaline and scare-factor was prolongued.

          Havocs post ignored.

BTW, if ANY of you paid attention to the PWTHEMOVIE video, one guy asked PW "I´ll give you a fair dogfight if you let me up". Next plane was given a permission to take off. Most people dont even TRY to ask for a chance. Ive asked plenty a times. And even one of the most arrogant ones gave me a go.

Horrible post Mandos. I almost wanted to stop reading at this point, and pretty much the rest of what you spouted is garbage that is supported by absolutely no facts, and all of the top pilots (you know, the people that actually had pride in their superior ability) agree with me.

You say things like "but to the fact that any given AA weapon never shot me down".... ********. You're a liar, flat out. YOU DIE ONCE FOR EVERY THREE KILLS YOU GET IN A PLANE MANDOS. Fact is, you died a lot in a plane, and your statistics in relation to piloting score are a quater of what I get running around on the ground with a rifle. A quater, and you're using a vehicle that is extremely limited in supply, unlike my infantry kit of choice, which any one can get at any time. You Mandos are a walking billboard for how balanced planes actually were in 1.12. Mandos, and you say silly things like "pilot takes 5 minutes to shoot you down with the cannon" when you in fact die on average every 4.7 minutes from the second you enter a plane to the second you are shot down or crash, so are you trying to tell me from the second you leave the ground every single time a pilot gets on your six, chases you for those 4.7 minutes, and then shoots you down? That's one reason I love BF2 statistics, as it does a great job exposing inconsistancies between what one says, and what one actually does.

Everything else you said was basically garbage, like I said, and I'll cap it off like this. I say, anyone in this thread who would like to take the PlaneWhore challenge I'm ready for you. I'll take a J-10, and you can take an F-35B, MiG, or an F-18 and you'll never shoot me down. This isn't a matter of skill either, it's strictly a matter of plane superiority and the resulting dominance highlighting the skilless nature of the new AA missiles. Of course, skill still has a tiny factor to play in it, but on a tiny fraction of what it used to, and an FPS game without skill as an element is retardation in its most refined form.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

Last time I checked, BF2 ranked servers don't have a "skill-meter" attached to them. I pick a 64 player server, I join, I stay on the disadvantaged team, and past that I don't see what else I can do.

Can't get on to me though simply because I'm unable to find a match for myself in the air, as I haven't even be able to find one among the CAL players.

Funny story, actually, when I originally posted my PW The Movie video, CAL players got wind of it pretty fast. In typical condescending fashion associated with those "cyberathlete" types they started bashing my video, and my skills in a plane. These people make my ego look small by comparison.

Of course, I responded with a challenge, and I had a bunch of CAL players following me from server to server trying to kill me. Long story short, they all got shot down. Even funnier for me, some of them started lying saying they got my plane smoking and I bailed or something of that nature but of course no screenshot as proof.

One CAL player who went by the name of [FRAG]Eldar was particularly insulting towards me and began following me around more than the other CAL people, but not just to shoot me down but trying to TK me on the runway during takeoff, or shoot me down while in a friendly plane. I eventually goaded him to the other team and responded by giving him the aerial assbeating of a lifetime, I went back to the thread (on the CAL forums), and got these taunting screenshots with commentary.

A couple randoms screenshots from the round of shame:

To be fair, a couple of the kills were runway kills after I had shot him down for extra taunt factor, but my point was made.

That is just one of many runs I've had in with these CAL "professional" cyberatheles, who are perhaps even more arrogant than I am, but sadly, none of them ever managed to shoot me down, while I turned them all in to flaming wreckage.

All that action is in the first few minutes of your 'Movie', it took about five minutes to cut a few bits out and add a few comments.

That 'MIG idiot' was behind you and you thought it was ground AA, he deserved a kill cos you were not paying attention.

Hang on a sec here we're going from 'Dogfighting takes no skill' to 'Is baseraping the way the game should be played'.

Your entire point 'Dogfighting takes no skill' is not even a point worth discussing as I've put 200hrs into flying planes and there was so little dogfighting as to be not worth even discussing in the first place.

In fact we've a video with 'the best pilot in Bf2' getting a massive score without once engaging the enemy fighter.

In fact I'd say with new patch I've spent 70% of my time dogfighting and 30% hitting ground targets. We saw what the last patch was like, i.e. none.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

Please, state the purpose of shooting down a plane with a pilot that is killing less people than the average infantry on the enemy team.

Do I need to restate it for you?

Bottom line, it would be a poor usage of my time during a round, and it could potentially lead to a much better pilot getting the plane on respawn. The only time the MiG attacked me when I was directly over in his airfield as he was reloading, and not enough provocation for me to take any real serious action against him. If I had spent half the round chasing the MiG for "ooo ahhh" factor then I would've been denying the viewer the sole purpose of that video, which is deriving the maximum impact possible for my team in the given timeframe. If during that one FRAPS session the enemy pilot has been a pilot like me, killing lots and lots of people, you would've seen some flaming MiG, because at that point it would''ve been a warranted usage of my time.

how so very convenient!! how about a screenshot of the final score? and can you prove that you weren't doing what you do best, base-raping, killing planes before they even took off or were just getting off the runway? btw, there are teams in CAL and then there are good teams in CAL. FRAG with a 5-4 record doesn't qualify as a good team, so try again.

somebody PLEASE take up this pompous a$$'s challenge.

redfield, still being a pu$$y and not providing a game handle? LOL.

Look I'm not discussing 'Is Baserape ok', I don't do it unless someone trys to do it to me or it is the last flag left. Whatever, that is not the point.

The point is you spent the entire round hitting ground targets, yes, well done your team won. I would not go that low to win (with all the baserape) but that's me.

You were trying to tell me how all this wonderful dogfighting skill has been removed, but I say again (and you can't dismiss my stats like Mandos) what dogfighting?

There were 64 players on that server and I would say everyone has been in a game like that. Ask them if that's the game they want to go back to, and it's not upto you or me, it's upto everyone that plays Bf2 to have a say on this.

A fighter has 2 bombs. Now, you either drop them on a jet and call it a dogfight or drop them on a ground target and call it bombing. Dont call bombing lame- its as normal as using any other weapon.

The reason there were rare dogfights was the lack of motivation for a dogfight. I didnt like PW not engaging the enemies in his video, but thats me. Everyone has a priority in this game. I enjoyed dogfights, I used the golden rule "always engage", even when I was up against a superior pilot. And there are a LOT of likeminded people out there.
