Wake Island wasted.

New patch arrived at last, thanks EA of that. Generally I have been quite satisfied about the content and the changes that were done to the game play. Only thing that really annoys me, is that it is almost impossible to USMEC forces to ashore main island on Wake Island map. Choppers are futile against new air defense and fighters that hit that accurate as they seem nowadays do. Boats were out of the question even with the old version. It seems that the only way to fight even a little on wake is to get the fighter or go the gun atoll with sniper riffle and bear that constant arty and bombing raping. Some changes to the map are desirable.

Hmm...Indeed, US has to use airpower to get to the island, but it's that much weaker now.
Maybe they should make the boats faster !

I disagree, athlough i agree it had got harder it is not impossible. I was wake today and my squad worked as a team. We used the boat to get to shore and took out the armour etc until we got the first flag. After that any flag is really capable as the other team all focus on getting that flag back or dont bother..

I played on a server recently where on wake it was only possibly to get ashore by boats. Simple fact is, the reason we managed to do it was because everyone on the boat had a weapon and were using it reguardless if they could see an enemy. Thats 5 weapons firing. 4 boats at the Carrier and you get 20 weapons, All of those bombarding the shoreline at once meant we just landed and overran the chinese straightaway.:guns:

Get in the BH and go really really high up and roll over the airfield and HALO your squad in, works almost every time.

Exactly! Once Chinese loose the Airfield its usually downhill for Chinese from there on :)

Its not that hard, planes can easily take out AA before they have the chance to get a shot off. You HAVE to work together now there's no other way around it. You need to send your planes out to destroy AA then send out the Black Hawks to land on the beaches and the attack chopper to defent the HB's.

To be honest, the BH was never much of a threat on Wake before the patch (until one point was capped).

My squad was pretty much ALWAYS the first to grab a point (unless our team was just far superior) by taking a boat to the beach and capping that point. Worked almost everytime and worked almost everytime I have tried it after the patch.

I played twice this a.m. and both times USMC won pretty handily. Granted - it took us a little time to figure out how to get ashore.

I did it by grabbing the BH along with 4 other guys and flying low out of the range of the AA along the NW coast then turned E at the airfield (2 ft off the water) and actually landed the whole stick on the airfields flag.

It certainly takes more coordination than before to get ashore - but it's definately do-able.

p.s. This patch makes the game very similar to the old Desert Combat - in that you needed to be very careful using aircraft - especially in maps like the old Lost Village where teh opfor was equipped with Stingers.

Wake Island seems too small. They should increase its size and add more trees.

wake island is all about flanking with either the boats or the helo. Once on the mainland stay on the beach area and go around to the second flag. Most of the defense is usually on the first flags.
