I've played for about 8 hours now since the patch came out and have yet to see the marker bug, AA bug or the sound bug so I can imagine that Demize99 is probably being truthful.

I haven't encountered any problems yet after 8 hours play except for one crash to the desktop and a few connection problems...

Why dont they publicly release a beta of the patch to the community then ask for response through forums such as this and their own forums?
Then you do have the resource of 50000 people (and probably more) and these problems wouldnt slip through.

Re: IndianScout (and other testers): Question for you

Actually, I fully understand Demize99's statement. That is honestly the status-quo in modern game patch testing - the developer's and publisher's resources cannot possibly match the actual player base as a potential for illuminating and addressing all the bugs, particularly when they're inconsistent and hard to replicate.

I was a beta tester for Rome TW and the same happened there, much to the dismay of all. Fixing one thing often breaks another completely unrelated aspect of the game. With the size of games nowadays, this is a much more frequent occurrence and very hard to track during patch testing.

If a hotfix is truly in the works then brilliant, we can but hope for the best. Ideally that would also address the "indestructable claymore fever" which has gripped BF2 at the same time - a problem that I fear will escalate on the well-known city maps if given time.

If you didn't see those bugs, you weren't playing the release version!
Hehe, sorry man, but I did a WTF about 2 seconds after dropping in and seeing a red number floating somplace underground. That looks very much to me like a last minute tweak that was never sent out to the testers.

My guess is that when the delay occured from a unsatisfactory round of playtesting you guys (Dice) did the fixes, but EA wouldn't allow another round of testing. That would have cost another week... and I know how those guys get about deadlines. Freaking date nazis!

If there was any testing after the last round of tweaks, it was definatly rushed ill managed. Or the feedback was ignored and EA said "put it out, NOW".

That said, I'm amazed there's so few bugs! Untested code always manages to generate unexpected (and sometimes interesting) things... no matter how *sure* you are that ya did it all right.

              Yup. EA: http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=18018
there is an issue with the patch and some Special Forces maps. All variants of Leviathan and the 32 and 64 player variants of Night Flight have a crash bug. We have advised our ranked server providers to remove these maps from their map rotation until a resolution has been set in place. I will be able to provide more news in future updates. I stress, this is only an issue with the Special Forces expansion pack.
It's implied, but that definatly is something they need to address quickly.

It also kinda underlines my above guesses. I find it impossible to believe that such a basic thing as; pull the trigger on a hummvee mounted TOW = Server Crash, could possibly go undetected. That's untested code right there.

Yea, I have about 12 hours on the new 1.2 patch, and have yet to see any of the issues listed as bugs. This does seem to be a random thing, not sure, but from my prospective, I think EA did a great job!

                  Why thank you, I didn't know 0.5!=1.

On a more serious note. Out of about fifteen players that aren't trying to bug the game on purpose half of them has experienced the sound bug. Are you telling me they are doing QA on machines with one hardware configuration and a total of five testers?

Re: IndianScout (and other testers): Question for you

I manage software testing for a living (not game software, business software). I think his explanation is 100% valid. It is safe to assume that many problems were reported by the testers, and that many of those issues were not fixed. Why? The problems were prioritized by a few factors:

                    How many people reported it
How critical the bug is (i.e. crash/annoyance/etc..)
                    Impact on overall game experience
How long it may take to fix the bug
Other factors known only to God

Everyone has been crying out for the patch. EA fixed what were the highest priority items that they could get done in X amount of days for X amount of cost.

No software is perfect, what counts is the effort. EA is responding in a realistic timeframe and in a cost effective manner (that's called business).

Customers = $$$ for EA, so I don't buy the whole "they don't love us" arguement.

Is there an NDA that would keep his mouth shut? Duh! It'd be pretty stupid for EA to NOT have an NDA in place.... (fyi - that's called "Common Sense").

A wide spread public beta test for the patch? Hmmm, how would you control the reporting and feedback from a very wide audience? Remember, issues have to be prioritized and reproduced to be fixed (not very realisitic or practical).

OK, that my $.02 - I usually charge $185 an hour for consulting, you got this for free.

                      My bet is yes.
                      That's their policy.
                      Saw it coming.

I doubt EA would do that cause there is no point cause now they have to fix the bugs/glitches Dont make sense on there part to release a patch knowing all these bugs are present

I blame the testers this time there are too many big issues with the patch which i dont think they reported to EA

I don't think that's too far off from what's going on now. People would be whining about the red/blue bug still being apparent and TOW missles not firing. The only way people won't mind that there are bugs is if they are willing to put in extra time to test, and they know what they are getting themselves into. And honestly, how many people are going to be willing to give up their time and quality game experience to play an untested patch? Peobably about the same that do now. I just hope they get the hotfix out soon...

I have seen alot of bugs in this patch. I got the sound one, AA missles bouncing off helicopters/planes and going through them, AT missles not fireing, and passing through objects, the enemy UAV showing up under ground, and at far distances (across the map) a bug when getting up from being prone where you get up, walk slow then fall back down without hitting the prone button. All those, but I still play cause they happen every so often. Its still fun to play. Ill just deal with it until they fix it again, whenever that will be.

yeah i really dont know how all these bugs and problems with the patch got through testing.....i found most of the bugs in the first few hours of playing.

DICE/EA hire me as beta tester and I'll cut down the amout of complaints you have by a ton :)

Alot of armchair quarterbacking going on right now. Seems alot of people fancy themselves game developers/game testers and know exactly what the developers and game testers saw on their screens. Maybe you guys should get together and work on the next "bf2 killer" game and wow us with your abilities.
