Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.

In any case, I like the patch so far. I like to fly the helos and now they are somewhat harder to use but I like that. It just gives me a reason to fly through trees and around buildings, etc. The airpower is not so much the focus of the game anymore. It'll end up making better pilots after it's all said and done.
Also, I had read about the prone "problem" before I got the patch downloaded and some people made it sound like it was the end of the world. In reality, I started playing and realized that it was not near as bad as it was made out to be. So it takes a second or two longer... That's not bad at all. After all, there is no reason why you should be able to pop up and down repeatedly and without pause.
This patch seems to have struck a good balance for me. I guess it remains to be seen how the community will accept it as everyone gets the patch and adjusts their gameplay. It may not be perfect but nothing ever is.

I think BF2 deserves a reclassification now. It has gone from UT arcadeism to some acceptable realism. I believe this is a great step toward making BF2 the next generation game for world class tournments.
All those "1337" cal teams are screwed now they removed c4 throwing.
They should start playing bF2 in 16 v 16 or 14v14, the way it's meant to be. 8v8 is a travesty.
Re: Bf2 patch 1.2: a great improvement through realism
o btw guys...If u want to get up quicker wile prone...juss press crouch as soon as u go prone..and u get up instantly. Ea did a good job on this patch...hahaha
Re: Bf2 patch 1.2: a great improvement through realism
as a helo pilot, i absolutly love the new patch. the realism seperates the REAL pilots from the noobs. its about time since the worst of pilots could get a three digit score with some effort
For those of you that say helos/jets will not longer be able to get in the 90s/100s, you just havnt seen any real pilots yet.

No.
The .50 cal round is designed to take out lightly armored vehicles, such as as a jeep or ATV. It's not meant to take out airborne vehicles.
When the .50 cal impacts a human body, if it's not the head, it will not blow them in half. It causes an entry and exit wound the size of 2 1/2''. If it hits the head however, the head will explode.
No you are wrong. The browning M2 .50cal machine gun was first designed for fighter aircraft in WW2. It was first designed to take out aircraft. The P-51 Mustang has 6, three in each wing and the P-47 has 8, 4 in each wing. On Navy ships in WW2 men manned .50cal machine gun stations to shot down approaching aircraft.
"amous Browning M2 was initially designed in USA as an aircraft gun, but in 1921 modernized for ground use and adopted as Model 1921 machinegun. In 1932 Model 1921 MG was modernized again and adopted under designation of M2. "
"M2 is a belt-fed, air-cooled, recoil operated full-auto only weapon. M2 operates wia short moving barrel. It could be used from M3 tripod (can not be used agains air targets), on M63 Anti-aircraft mount, it can be pintle, turret or coaxila mounted on combat vehicles or aircrafts. "
Re: Bf2 patch 1.2: a great improvement through realism
I haven't tried the planes or choppers yet, but the lock on issue with the AA does sound like it's a bit of a problem. I'd guess that maybe the AA is now working properly, but the flares are not. Flares working correctly HAS been an issue before... I've dropped them many times only to watch them do nothing at all to help. I think most of the time it wasnt the flares that saved me, but the fact the AA didn't track right. Now that its tracking right, and the flares arent working, everyones getting shot down very easy. But this is speculation because I havent tried flying yet.
I would have, but after playing as infantry I became rather ticked off at one change that kinda RUINED the game for me whenever I'm on foot. It's not the no shooting while your jumping thing, I'm fine with that. It's not the can't go prone so quickly thing. It's not even the can't get up from prone thing so quickly (although, it IS annoyingly slow... even worse then going down to prone)... but MY PROBLEM is with the fact you cannot shoot while standing up from prone.. you don't even HAVE A RETICLE TO AIM WITH!!!!! WTH? (let me clairify, when u stand up from prone, in both zoomed and unzoomed, your reticle disappears and you CANNOT fire)
That's bs. If I can aim and shoot while going DOWN to prone, why don't I when standing up? That's just moronic. Anybody else find this extremely annoying? What use is going prone anymore? Seriously... I mainly used it to duck behind cover.. but now if I do that I get shot while trying to stand back up. I can't dodge it, I can't even FIRE BACK anymore. If I could at LEAST fire at them while standing up, I would have dealt with the other changes. Not to mention the ridiculous running animation is used when ur standing up. WTF IS THAT? Seriously, DICE dropped the ball on this one. I DON'T REMEMBER ANYONE ASKING FOR THEM TO NERF PRONE! Why did they? I DO not have a problem with it taking longer to get up or down (but it should be the same amount of time both ways)... and I really don't have a problem with no shooting while jumping (and I'll have to get used to that btw! I got in the habit of jumping just once when somebody comes around the corner at me, and I would shoot occasionally too.. mainly because of bunny hopping tards... they have me trained that way... but I don't mind adapting to that).
DICE you need to fix the whole cant shoot while standing up from prone crap. Seriously, you've never seen somebody do a pop-up over cover to fire off a few even in REAL LIFE? It's very do-able... never fired a real gun like that, but I've played paintball alot, and its easy enouph to do. And who wouldn't? It's smart to keep your head down in combat... GO ASK A MARINE about that. :P
Re: Bf2 patch 1.2: a great improvement through realism
Hey guys, want to hear about an awesome experience I had when I was in the military?
Okay, so I'm a medic. I'm just walking along and POOF this tank appears out of thin air. I'm an awesome tank driver so I just hop in the driver's seat and take off. I'm cruising around blowing stuff up, then a rocket hits it! The tank lights on fire, so I hop out and BOOM it explodes!! I'm not really worried though, it's just a tank, we're scheduled to get a new one in about 20 seconds.
I join up with some other guys who are trying to flank the enemy. One of them gets shot by a .50 caliber sniper bullet in the chest! He's nearly dead, but I toss him a first-aid pack, he gives me the thumbs-up and we go on. BLAM! Sniper again, only this time he shot him in the FACE! His head's still in tact though, which is good because that means I can fix the bullet hole with my defibrilators! I give him a shock and the bullet hole is GONE! He's OK now, so we go around and find the sniper, I stab him in the leg and he DIES!
As awesome of a story as that is, what's even better is that BF2 is realistic enough for me to live it out every day!!!
Re: Bf2 patch 1.2: a great improvement through realism
I am enjoying the new patch and have seen quite a bit more teamwork going on and that is great. That at least is realistic for a organized force. As a commander I like the changes and I will be eager to play more of gulf of oman and other maps with planes now. I am glad we can have a chance to beat the jets, now it can be about what the squads are doing on the ground.

After patch 1.2:
Jets have to fly carefully, fly high to avoid AA fire (realism+), they tend to use missiles and missiles are extremely lethal now (realism+), cannons are now used a lot less (hence BF2 is no longer a WWII shooter, realism+). Spec ops, instead of the invulerable flying tanks, are required to take out anti-air (realism+)
1) The best way real life jets avoid AA fire is fly extremly low. Thats how the Israeli Air Force managed to pass through Jordan then to Iraq and bomb the Nuclear Reactor, then get back safe home (8 jets). So in this matter realism-.
2) Not clear on what you mean "they tend to use missiles" - who tends to? the jets or the AA? Inways, missiles in real life are deadly enough so you never know what hit you and from where. You just die. realism-.
3) Guns are still used to straf enemy infentry and soft targets. Again, the Israeli air force, in 67, with mainly mirages (jets), destroyed houndreds of jets on the ground by straffing rounds. realism-
4) Spec ops in real life don't destory AA. It's mainly done by long range missile from jets, ships, and from the ground. Well yes, (again) Israeli commando stole a whole SAM radar (by taking down the personals manning the site, and attaching the radar to a heavy chopper), but that it not the case. It was also done in order to learn the weaknesses of the new Russian SAM. SAM sites can be destroyed today with anti radar missiles, like the American Harpon missile. realism----.
5) There are very few army installations or bases that are defended by SAM sites. SAM sites are defending very high priority targets or the borders of the country. Not every single army base. Realism-.
6) Jets don't need to wait until dropping more flares. Realism-.
Actually BF2 has now become much more like UT. In real life the air force rules the skies many times more then it did in the old patches of BF2.
Now the SAMs have become the food for the unskilled BF2 whiner.
I promise you that - I'm gonna learn the weakness of the AAs. I didn't keep a 25:1 KDR (with no spwan camping, e.g PlaneWhore) for nothing.

I played some yesterday and 2 rounds as Medic, I am a dedicated Medic (whore?) too :) . Though I really loved it, they charged in my pocket perfectly, which saved me and my patients life quite a few times. I had none of the problems you had and got gold with ease, perhaps you had a laggy server, try it again today, because it worked just perfect for me.

Triple-lol. Whenever people start to make arguements by throwing in the IRL/Realism comments it makes me laugh. IRL/Realism has no respawn. End of discussion.
