I'm good on the ground, in fact I'll own most people on the ground. But, I also like to fly the helicopter. I think the airplanes will be able to get around it by flying high and using mountains to their advantage. The planes AA system is identical to the AA on the ground, both lock onto a helo without flares flawlessly. If this patch is the real deal, I might just start booby trapping AA's

      EXACTAMUNDO!

My clan buddy and I helo whore, Ill admit. He gets 30-40 kills with about 4 deaths and I'm piloting.

The guy is a friggin surgeon with those TV missles and if we are in a helo on a map like Kubra or Oman, kiss every tank, APC, and helo taking off from the opposite base goodbye because its going down.

I love the points, but how is that fair? Why should the first people that load the map and grab the air vehicles first be entitled to all teh gold medals?

Air vehicles were too powerful and now they seem to be inline with everything else in this game.

AIR whores, get over it! Take the helicopters and jets out of your sigs because youre DONE. NO MORE PLANES FOR YOU! NEXT!

        Lets make this simple.

        Then
Full 64 player server, a few people in jets and helis. These said few on both teams on average score more than any other players in the game and die less.

        Now
AA is optimized to work! Infantry has a chance to defend themselves. Pilots adopt new methods of scoring points by getting many kills but in turn, dying more often thus balancing out the K/D ratio playing field.

I enjoy flying planes, but in no way should the tables be turned as they have been now. Even in 16 player servers, every grunt on the ground wants to be a hero by jumping inro the nearest available SAM site.

It's non-stop tone, and once they wait for the flares to drop, you're done with. I'm not saying a boost to the AA wasn't necessary, but I think they went TOO far. They actually made it too good. Currently, the scenario is as follows. Take off, tone everywhere on the map, die within 1 min (if you are lucky). What's the point in flying? Even dog fights are lame, they are skilless, any mediocre pilot that remains on your tail for longer than 5 seconds will score a kill, the Air to Air missles are sickeningly accurate.

It's no more fun than to jump into a tank and have it explode after 15 seconds, sooner or later you'll start asking yourself, what's the point.

Other notable improvements for 1.2 include a healthy fps boost, and useful support weapons that can lay down proper suppression fire because they actually pose a threat.

Helis have to be used smarter, I dont really have major issues with them for now, but the fighter aircraft are pure rubbish.

Next thing you know everyone is going to be bitching about the tanks being too powerful because there are no helicopters or planes around to take them out

I'm kidding, this is all very laughable to me, I could care less. However, I think EA took this one to the extreme a little bit. But heck, we don't know if this is the "real" patch now do we.

Precisely. It hasn't been uploaded to EA's FTP yet so they could always 'recall' it.

The support weapons are more accurate than most of the guns.... its pretty crazy.

Thats a good point, this could be an older beta patch that has since been changed.

Re: Anyone been in the 1.2 air? Its thick... in fact

                    Guys, think about this:

Jets are instant death from above at ANY place on the map! Why should they be flying around in the same fashion as tanks? You can hop in a jet and be at a place within seconds and dropping bombs.

So you can sit there all round and drop bombs at a base on the other side of the map...boohoo, so you might have to drop bombs at a higher altitude than scraping the ground anywhere you please.

The Plane - Infantry relationship has undergone a major overhaul and a desperately needed one at that.

Pilots are definately going to have to change strategies, but the days of unchallenged air superiority are over with a vengeance and its refreshing! No longer will I helplessly fear the roar of a jet over head.

Now, I think that air vehicles will play more of a defense role in clearing out bases under attack then bombing bases deeply within enemy territory.

Keep in mind, they have tested this patch for a long time and they know what they are doing.

don't you want those guys on your team? They make it much easier to do stuff when the planes and helos soften up the targets for you.

Why do people feel the need to whine about this ****?

Now, no one will have decent air cover, because people sure as hell aren't going to work together to take out the stinger sites. And if they somehow do? No matter, it will respawn in 30 seconds anyway. What's the point in taking it out when it comes back WAY too soon. Should be 2 minutes, so working together to take down AA is worth something. Not just a few seconds of freedom.

Good job babies, you now ruined your air cover. Don't whine about the planes not doing their job now, because you complained about it and now they are basically worthless.

Anyone saying that AA is now "designed to defend" is a crackpot. AA WAS defending earlier. The lock-on tone was already affecting people. People seemed to think that "shooting in that general direction" should have done the trick. Guess what, do you do the same in infantry level combat? I dont think so.
AA now is an offensive tool. People seem to be using them to hunt easy kills. Air combat is over. You will still get TVGMd out of nowhere (BTW: from 600 metres to what is the reduction?). But if it will take you NO skills to shoot down a BHAWK, Helo, Jet. Then this is just an insult. I´m trying this all out later. If its ****ing me off and seems useless, Im selling the game.

Infantry- you got a chance to evade the bombs that were dropped.

Not really. The min deviation is very low, but the deviation per shot, and while standing are much higher.

People prone, and shooting in controlled burst will do well. The people flocking to the support class because the heard is rulez will still suck. No run and gun, and the slower time to prone should balance it out.

I can't believe this patch is legit. There is no way that the BF2 community gave this patch a go-ahead for release after such lengthy testing.

Anything is possible I suppose, buy I sincerely hope the beta testers weren't complete fools to let this sort of thing happen.

Then why should tanks and APC's fear so much more? They have other tanks, anti tank, TOWs and all sorts to worry about plus they can be C4'ed. They also have much less ability to get out of danger.
Now what you will need before you go into an area is either to have infantry and armour clear the path ahead -or- defend your own people as best you can. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have done with this, and yes of course I'm biased but the whole seemingly elitist attitude of the 'flyboys' gets to me.

To the whole 'pro' pilot thing, I have only flown a helicopter once recently (after two months of non battlefielding at all due to other patch slowing my old machine down too much to play) and even with my general crapness at it I still managed to rack up 9 driver kill assists and a few of my own, while basically hovering right above manned enemy AA sites. The only thing that stopped me was my lack of practice and my overambitious flight into a tree.

The mention of the respawning AA makes me laugh, the choppers respawn pretty quick too as far as I recall, in fact I'm more than certain that after they blow up another one is in the area very soon after.

The same could be said about planes. What was the point of shooting down a plane when it will quickly respawn. How about a 2 minute respawn time on jets as well?
