also, where is the 1 shot kill on BF2, is it ANYWHERE on the head?
in real life, the perfect hit is right on the bump of the nose, or inbetween the eyes. the nerves get chopped instantly and the victim won't even flinch, pull a trigger, scream. thats a true instant kill.

Nope it´s not. The Cerebellum is responsible for motoric action and isn´t anywhere between the eyes, but in the lower, neck part of the brain:

As for the bullet drop: All rifles with the same bullet speed have the same bullet drop, pre and post patch. With the lower random deviation it´ll now be possible to snipe more consistently farther out, taking into account bullet drop (and time of flight).

As a British Army marksman (tho not a sniper... yet!) you can calculate bullet drop or more simply find out the range then dial the sights in to it which will do the hard work for you :)

the way i adjust for bullet drop is just to aim at the very top of the head every single time, hasn't failed for me yet :\

I have just relised how accurate the L96A1 is and i can now hit enemy soldiers in the head at max view distance over 60% of the time, if the are not moving.

How do i do this.... If you just practice you will quickly learn how high to aim, it took me 3 hours, btw at max distance you need to aim approx 1/2 of a persons hieght above your target for a head shot. :)

basically its all up the the physics engine configured in the game..... which personally i dont know how its configured.... in real life parameters there is an exact formula to determine bullet drop, but it really does depend on way to many variables, most of which we could not even begin to figure out on bf2..... the only thing i can suggest is to do trial and error scenarios on an empty server....

if you really wanna geek it up that bad and practive with all variables in place, get hold of Sniper Elite. That covers ALL aspects of sniping into the game play, bullit drop, wind etc etc...

I know it's not BF2 but if thats what you want then thats where you'll get it. The details might be in BF2 but as has been mentioned before, there seems to be far to many variables you just can't get in BF2 to practice properly...

You put too much thought into this.

All I know is (on Wake Island 2007, for example), to fire at someone on the little island with the USMC artillery from the shore, raise it about 1-2 inches (IRL) above their head, and should hit somewhere in the chest-head region.

I have a dream............to be the ultimate PC first person shooter sniper. I know it sounds sorta crazy, but it's true. I try though although judging from this post here I think I'm way off. I'll be studying this ullet drop formula carefully.

Trying to figgure out bullet drop and distance to target is fine. But truthfully to be accurate nothing and I'll say it again NOTHING replaces practice.

There are 2 types of sniper.

Class one.. bang.. miss... reload, bang.... miss.... reload, bang hit. "YES!" ( change location )

class two.. Bang miss @#$%^&* bang miss ")(*&^%$# forget sniper class it suxorz!!!!11ty1! "


You either have the fortitude to stay with it or dont. You cannot get frustrated with missing targets. It happens and the good sniper will continue even if he has missed his target.

would i be right to also assume that if you're at a higher point than the target, the bullet drop varible would be significantly reduced?

say on Gulf Of Oman, i'm on the hotel, and i wanted to neck someone somewhere near the train line at max(ish) viewing distance - you couldn't really account for drop because of the height you're at - true? :S

ok...ok...ok....do you really think that playing a video game for hours on end will somehow help you through sniper school?

I have a strange feeling that picking up a hobby like hunting will serve you better. Practice shooting a deer at 500 meters. He won't shoot back. I promise.

When you get to sniper school, make sure to tell your Instructor that you know what you are doing becuase of the calculations you made that were based on a computer game.

I don't mean to flame, I am just saying if you really wanted to practice your sniper skills/survival skills, perhaps gaming is not the way to go.

Your mildot formula is correct. However, to relate it to BF2 is POINTLESS because the game is not accurate in how it relates to distance. The game is nowhere equal to live fire. You rely on your spotter in a sniper team, the game relies on ping times. You are wasting your time.

Take a rifle to a range, do some actual shooting. Take some mildot binos and practice some unknown distance exercises and rehearse your calculations. Do KIMS exercises. Practice your PT. Review your packing list and load your equipment, then unpack it and pack it again to make sure you have everything. Do not pack anything thats not on the packing list, do not remove anything off the packing list you "don't think you'll need". Build your ghillie before you go, I recommend extra burlap along the entire knee/shin area. Other guys will have small burlap kneepads on theirs while yours may look excessively large... but it really comes in handy when you slide down hills on your knees. The guys with the banged up knees will wish they had your suit then. (edit: I don't know if USMC sniper requires you to have a complete ghillie before you attend, Army SS doesn't either, but it saves the time you would have been using to make a suit when you could be sleeping instead.) Go out and run, do cardio...

These will help you, this game will not.
