Re: Loosing sound after 30 secs of gameplay

The "squeek of death" and sound distortion started happening to me last Friday night...
I don't know if it's a coincidence but it began when I disabled VOIP (re-enabling VOIP didn't cure the issue). Putting my in game settings to software/high stopped it, but that's hardly an adequate solution when I was on hardware/high. Curiously moving the windows sound control panel hardware acceleration slider from "full acceleration", to "standard acceleration" stopped the distortion and enabled me to reset the in game setting to hardware, but the squeek and a lag spike when I start a round is still there.
I'll have a fiddle around at some point when I can be bothered, and post the results.

        same here, same problems.......
sounds like some sort of rap/scratching competition going on when map first loads......
oh well. I too believe it punkbuster caused.

Yeah, I usualy play on a selection of 6 or 7 servers hosted by a couple of local ISPs which my friends frequent. These servers are all ranked and have punkbuster enabled. The issue is reproduced whenever I join these, or any other ranked/punkbuster enabled servers.

Unranked servers with no punkbuster support are few but they are out there. Some are private clan servers, others are public servers for stunt play. To find one simply untick the 'ranked' and 'punkbuster' boxes under internet filters, click 'update servers' then pick one at random that does not have a ranked/punkbuster icon. (I can provide some IPs if necesarry). This issue does not occur on these servers for me.

Also as a possible fix, tonight I have tried muting the sound when the sound corruption kicks in. I have a keyboard with a dedicated mute button so for me it was rather simple to do. (The effect is same as alt-tabbing, going to control panel and ticking the 'mute' box in "Sounds and Audio Devices").
After playing for a couple of minutes and generaly dying horribly by being shockpaddled, stabbed, driven over, bombed, grenaded, crashed into and burned alive because I couldnt hear the enemy coming, I unmute the sound.

At times the sound corruption is gone, if it remains I simply mute for another couple of minutes and unmute again, by then the issue is usualy gone and I can enjoy a couple of rounds in comfort until the next map loads, where I have to try this again.

Make of this what you will :hmm:

A friend of mine plays BF2 using my wife's PC and it's experiencing this problem as well. I didn't have this problem before on this machine. Recently the PS/2 port for the keyboard died, so I bought a USB keyboard and started using it for the game. This is probably unrelated, but are all of you using USB keyboards?

The sound card in this machine is an old SB Live.

The issue now appears to be FIXED
I had a response on my punkbuster support ticket that they've adjusted a few server settings and the issue should now be resolved.

I have played a couple of games just now without any sound corruption. I hope this fix affects all of you.

Yeah, it seems to be working alright for me too. Though only tried one server tonight. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.

I played one round with no problems last night too. Is it me or is this some mass hallucination we've all had?

I'm curious to know how punkbuster have fixed this. This is all too weird man.

Also got reply on my support ticket last night. Tested 2 EA EU officials and our clanserver. All worked fine.
                      Sweet!

                          are we talking about this,

Sounds are actualy normal, but sometimes you hear, reeeeeeq, kreep, wrpeeee, tuuuuuuu, ...... you know, hard sounds

I have this since two or three days , and I use a creative soundblaster audigy 2 ZS .

And this has something to do with PB ?

PS : I didn't do an update of my sounddrivers since a few months

I don't know if my problem was PB related. More likely a coincidence. It was fixed by reinstalling these Creative driver packages:

                            OpenALwEAX & SBA2_PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_0002

Wow guys..I can't believe I missed out on this entire thread!

I haven't been playing BF2 for the past couple of days (busy with work). Man...I hate cheaters even more. Within them, we wouldn't need to PunkBuster crap

Wow..! The "squeek of death" happened to me last night and I thought was an isolated problem with my PC but now checking this thread I found out I'm not alone.

It happened between 12:00 - 1:00 AM (EST) I started to hear walkie talkie fuzzy sounds and the squeek of death..
