Re: Time for a new graphics card.

sorry for double reply, but the reason why i am asking is that I wont be able to get another card for a while, maybe some ram. But i might decide to throw out my savings on a new card, if i figure out that this one is like the biggest junk i can get.

My ATI Radeon x800 Pro is a whopping TERD!

It overheats under almost any load.

Using the ATI Catalyst overdrive (overclock) feature which is a measly 30mhz or so, creates artifacts all over the windows desktop forcing windows to have to be restarted to fix it.

The card is built like a peice of **** and i would have expected more from a product they want 400$ for.

I'm going back to Nvidia ASAP because they actually build a good product, one that will last and last. Even if its benchmarks (theoretical performance tests anwyay) are slightly lower.
Okay dude. Who makes your video card? Ever thought maybe its not ATi's fault, and maybe the manufacturer's? hmm, what a concept...

Im not saying ATi performs way better than nVIDIA or better at all. But the x1600 might not perform as well as the 6800gs, but its cheaper so... as I said, you get what you pay for. Do research.

          i have an AMD 64 3200 +
          512 RAM,
want to run on all high except Geometries and Lighting, and off on the Dynamic light and shadows, nad 4 AA

I know that my choice sucked, but do you think that it can cut it untill i can get a new one?

o whoops you said "want" I thought you said you DID. FOr that you would need a 6800 series or the ATi equivalent and at least a gig of ram. Or maybe 2 gigs of ram and a 6600gt or equalivalent.

tell me this... if i get like 2 gigs of ram (1 in the worst case) what will the graphics card and ram make for the settings... including AA?

for all high, 4xaa, and lighting off, with 2 gigs of ram. You might be able to pull it off with a 6600gt, but best bet would be any of the 6800 series with 256mb video memory.
or the ATi equvalant. x800xl, pro should do it. I also heard that the x700pro performs very well, contradictory to Sphox. But I would say x800 best bet or 6800.

ya... that sux cauz I wont be able to get a new card for a while, so what will it be with 2 RAM? acceptable? or crap? I meen I dont expect a super game of my comp, so can you by any chance list the options it will take and run smoothly on like 60 person servers?
EA should have really waited and sent a game out that runs smoother, not a crap version- that is for people like me with crappy cards.

well, yes, the game has some problems with coding etc. But the maps are huge, and take a lot of ram, and the graphics are very very good, which also takes more $$$ spent. You cant have a crappy card and expect to play with SUPER nice graphics which is what you are asking.

With 2GB, and the 6200, I would say low-medium settings.

Ya. whatever, it runs and doesnt glitch, and in a year or some (unless there is BF3) the game should be updated, and I will have a better card, which is exactly what happened with BF1942, it was a game that wouldnt run, and then it ran perfectly, so I have to wait

by the way, is the low-medium with AAx4? or no AA

Wow, stop rec some 6800GS ad 7800series, READ, he says 250-300 australian dollars, not USD, sackynut is right, go for the X800GTO. ANyways, i'm still seeing massive nvidia fanboyage here. I'm nt a ATI fanboy though, so don't flame, i speak only the truth, if nvidia is so good, why arn't people buying GTX512mb? Instead they are buying X1900s, cause thy are 100 or more dollars cheaper, and they perform better in general (at everything besides DOOM3 and Quake 4, both of which are optimized for nvidia, and have opengl engines). Also, yes, 3dmark05 IS biased towards ATi, especially for the X1k series, i mean, teh X1600 Pro gets higher 3dmark05 scores than me ( i get 5200, the X1600Pro gets around 5500), but my card still pwns teh X1600Pro in games.
