Re: Unproportional number of air vehicles in BF2

I have to agree, there are to many jets in the game. I also think that the number of vehicles and their spawn time should be server set.
alot of time when you play now you got a vehicle for everyperson and while its fun sometimes it does take away the infantry aspect of the game.
It would be wicked if you could play Zatar wetlands with for example say 1 tank and 2 jeeps per side on a 64 people server. Think of the front that would be when 25 infantry guys march in on eachoter shooting. Right now everyone just zip around stealing flags with little coordination or teamwork.

Re: Unproportional number of air vehicles in BF2

I should change my ID to "Devil's Advocate". I've read all the posts I can about the unfair advantage of jets, and attack choppers. I've been on the receiving end of this a lot. What I don't read much is about counter-measures built into the game. The patch will supposedly make it a reasonable task to down aircraft with the ground AA implacements. I just saw a video of a test of the patch, which showed in particular a MEC chopper being downed by the USMC ground AA in two shots. Good enough for me. Yet, the question for me is (when I'm being chewed up by their air assets) "Where are OUR air assets?"

There are two jets for each side. Evenly matched. There are two ways to score; bomb ground targets for the MOST points, counter their assets for FEWER points and at greater risk to the pilot. When their jets are bombing me, I always look to see if one of "our" pilots is hot on his tail. Usually, no, when we're continually being blasted to bits. When their chopper is sitting comfortably overhead (on maps with jets) raking the ground with impunity, I'm wondering the same thing, "Where are OUR jets????" This hovering chopper is an easy kill for a competent pilot - not necessarily expert.

What are OUR pilots off doing? Raking in points for themselves, lowering their own risk and avoiding contact with enemy air assets. Or, are they just flying around in circles? Two maps in particular - Kubra Dam, and Clean Sweep. At Kubra, the USMC armor spawn is next to a pass (to the north) with a crossroad. The key point is the Supervisor's Post, then down that road taking the next one as fast as possible. MEC choppers and jets swarm at that crossroad, or rake that pass, not allowing ANY armor to get out and join the game. Witless wonders will take the tanks south, the "safe" way, but also the way where there's endless driving, and not bring the armor into action. Where are OUR jets? The USMC airfield is just a small jump away from this pass. It's where ALL their air assets are focused. WHERE ARE THEY? They're usually doing stunts in the tunnel. If they were engaging the MEC aircraft, we'd be able to get the armor into action.

Clean Sweep, MEC has two strips that are lined-up perfectly to rake the islands, then rearm. If they aren't opposed, they'll do it all day. All they have to do is cruise the roads, and bomb away.

This all has to do with dogfighting skills, which has to do with being able to "really" fly. If BOTH USMC jets are engaging BOTH the MEC jets, then they can't bring their assets to bear in the game. Their fight happens well away from the ground action. IF when the jets fly back to their strip to rearm, they don't hunt for choppers on the way...that tale doesn't have to be told here.

The choppers do need to be nerfed somewhat, and have been with the patch. However, the jets especially are evenly matched. I've always thought it was the pilots, not the planes, that cause the imbalance on the ground.

Dogfight, dammit. It's fewer points, but you're either a teamplayer or you should GET THE FU*K OUT of the planes. Let someone who'll do the job fly. Whore points some other way. "There, I said it."
