I was dicking around with google today and came across this:
Now admittedly this is for the ukrainian army and theres bound to be some differences compared to the armies portrayed in BF2 but I still think its close enough to bear some comparison.
Anyway I played around with a calculator and did some sums.
Total ukrainian armed forces: 230000
Divide by around 2 (a guess) to get the number of combat personnel: 115000
Number of tanks 6300
Number of APCs 14000
Number of fighter type jets 700
Number of heklicopters 700
"Soldiers" per tank: 14
"Soldiers" per APC: 9
"Soldiers" per jet: 165
"Soldiers" per helo: 165
Now if we think of a 64 player map, thats 32 soldiers per team, meaning each team would have available to them around:
2.3 tanks
3.6 APCs
0.2 jets
0.2 helicopters
Obviously this is a very crude system, a couple things that will make obvious errors are that IRL it requires more than one person to operate an armoured vehicle. Also I guess the USMC would field more helos proportionally, but surely not enough to make a big difference.
I think this shows that while the tanks/apcs are more or less in proportion, there are vastly more jets and helicopters than there is any right to be.
So to anybody who says jets and helicopters should pwn because they do IRL, I say there shouldn't be any anyway!
