What I have learned from this thread: People are mad at pilots, because they get killed by them, and thus feel they're getting their stats ruined.
What the heck else is new?

Re: Unproportional number of air vehicles in BF2

TokenBrit : Great post, interesting information, and i totally agree with you on this whole vehicle issue.

Currently BF2 is a vehicle centric game which awards those few individuals on the expense of the rest of the players.
If dice wanted this in the first place, then they got what they wanted and the future of BF games won't be much different.
However if they didn't, then i sure hope EA will give them funding for a gameplay programmer for their next title.

Apparently some companies (like Epic and SplashDamage for example) have a specific position for that.
This is a little different than designing the gameplay, it's more like foreseeying problems and tweaking things accordingly so the design becomes a reality.
Among other things, this position envolves a lot of math. for example, (in the very little experience i had in gameplay programming), that involved building charts based on mathematical formulas to compare various aspects of a game visually, this cuts testing time drastically, simpilfies issues and gives a much clearer view when tweaking gameplay elements.

Re: Unproportional number of air vehicles in BF2

hahaha, o man, nice comeback... you pride yourself on being 'of age'
then insult him with 'dumbass' like a 12 year old..

dude, I could care less about your flying skills... and youre WRONG,
the game is NOT about kills... its about tickets, therefore its primarily
about control points... I know, fool, I have 298 gold stars.. I earned
them all the hard way..fighting into a control point, and taking it over..
Every taken life is -1 ticket. A tank killing an APC full of people= -5 tickets. Ticket drain by itsself is too slow to turn the tide in war and youre desperate if youre going to try to prove me wrong.

Actually, the choppers dont bother me as bad, as the jets.. even though
the armor of the chopper is COMPLETELY out of whack.. (tank shell doesnt
take it down ??? huh ??) I still find it possible to take em down with
        my AT rockets quite often..
A hit against tank threads should render the tank immobile, WTF?! I dont think I even have to tell you that this game really shouldnt be compared to RL. And if you do, expect a lot of **** to be thrown against your arguments.

The jets on the other hand are a joke.. No kit has a AA weapong in it..
We're left with the useless AA emplacements that, as I said before,
are useless against a skilled pilot..
Practice AA, your kills will increase. Thats the problem, AAs arent fun to operate and people expect them to hit by just pressing the mouse button 2 times. And then those people blame it all on the pilots.

And there are way too many aircraft on the maps... they should eliminate
some of them, or make their respawn times 5 minutes or something..
5 minutes sounds sweet. I also think a tank against infantry is way too overpowered, it should respan every once in a minute. Ive seen people in tanks rack up better scores than pilots. Are they being accused in tankwroing, I dont think so. You only whine about what you cant/dont want to take down, which makes your arguments invalid.

I play in a league most of the time.. I find public servers a disgrace to
online gaming.. and I have nothing against true to the word 'noobs'..
i.e. new players, or even less skilled players.. as long as they are trying
Im fine with it.. but BF2 public servers are the melting pot of lameness
        in online gaming..
Wonderful, you just patronize people who enter the servers to have FUN, not work for some stupid score. In a sense, youre the impersonation of "lame" by asking people to play how you would like the game to be played. Granted, the game is a mil-orientated game which puts pressure on squadwork, but hell, I dont come to the pub to "work", I come there to have fun. Will it be teamwork, squadwork, jets, helos, Jihad-Jeep or any other elements of the game, I enjoy it because its fun. The win of the last round gets unnoticed in the next round.

Ive been playing online games since my first 110 baud
modem, played nearly them all, never have I seen a player base so
pathetic.. (apologies to the good, decent, hard working, honest players
out there.. I know they are represented..)
        but, the ratio of goofoffs
to actually trying to win players is sad..
Good for you. Im the president of Asia, I find that the westerners are too white and thats a problem.
Most of the people play for fun, you obviously play for stats. Congratulations, because youve just leveled yourself next to the guy who you hate so much, a genuine planewhore who flies for the points.

You play in any leagues? I suggest you try it.. you will see the differance
is like between night and day... I have never been TKd for a vehicle,
nor do ANYONE stand around waiting for jets and choppers all game..
Players work as a team.. and the COMMANDER ACTUALLY COMMANDS,
rather than some shmuck who just wants a 2x bonus..
Although not playing in BF2, Ive had my share of experience in good, coordinated play. The problem with forced gameplay is that I cant play it more than an hour or two at once, max. BF2 is much about freedom and people use it. Many a times I just wander around as a sniper, fly a jet because its fun and use a tank also for the abovementioned reason.

You expect people to treat BF2 as a simulation where everyone must do as they are expected to do. With 64 players that is impossible. Good day. Good whining.

Actually if you go to the Americas Army forums people compare it to real life all the time because its meant to be as close to real life as possible.

But its still just a video game and isnt as realistic as people make it look to be.

Re: Unproportional number of air vehicles in BF2

yeah thats right, all i'm saying is though that its not completely unpheasable to have a pretty realisitic game.

Afterall if you look at the old operation flashpoint the koreans used it to help train there soldiers apprently. In terms of tactics etc.

And Americas Army well a derivutive of it has been used by American forces for training aswell, in fact apprently the US elite regiments do actually kick ass at it compared to hardcore gamers.

Its reminicent of a old episode of a UK video game show called 'gamesmaster' when they had a game where you had to punch this bag thing on the arcade machine would say how hard u hit it etc, they put a hardcore gamer who used the machine a lot against a boxer who has never used it before and naturally the boxer hit it a lot harder (crude comparison but you get the idea)

                        Well it's pretty simple.
Some people say jets are fine because they are overpowered in reallife too.
TokenBrit says that following this "reallife" rule, the ratio of jets to people would mean you would have 1/2 a jet for each team in the first place.
How does that sounds like whining ?

What hes saying is maybe if there were more helicopters and other vehicles to get off the carrier then maybe less tk's would happen. Sorry guys but those little patrol boats don't cut it, especially when a jet flys back by and fires his machine gun into it and it blows up in the middle of the ocean. Not just on carriers but most maps where the team has an uncapturable, I am usually the first one in yes? Well I don't always make it to a vehicle and if I am AFK anytime and come back I have to walk because there is no vehicles left.

it would be nice actually to have some armoured beach landing boats that open at the front to take off the carrier on wake island.

The fact that we get killed by them is a non-issue. The problem is that an expert with infantry is likely to get a much lower score than an expert with planes. Its harder to get points as infantry, especially considering [in general] 1 soldier vs 3 soldiers = doomed while 1 plane vs 5 soldiers = pwnage. Yes its realistic that planes are better than infantry, but that isn't the point. The point is that the point system should be more balanced so people good at flying shouldn't always have huge scores compared to good ground soldiers.
