Considering that UAV and sat scans detect people in buildings and under other cover a ghillie suit is hardly effective shielding. I'd be more interested in having their suit be a more appropriate color for camo in urban maps.

I like it when enemy commanders 'waste' their artillery on me, especially if I'm a sniper going solo. It's quite funny when they think I'm a huge threat.

Hmm...lets think. If he nukes me, it's only one kill (ticket). Where as if he nukes a populated area, it would be a bigger loss of tickets. Bring it!

I think you'll find (well in my experience anyway) the most likely time you'll get artillery on your position from an enemy Commander is when the opposing team has a superior ticket advantage. It pays for the enemy commander to use artillery initially to give his team an advantage in tickets by taking out groups of enemy and then let his team keep up that advantage earning more points for themselves and thus himself especially factoring in the 2x bonus for a likely win. So seeing as there is a comfortable ticket advantage, to the Commanders mind artillery can be used at leisure to take out meddlesome lone snipers or small groups of snipers.

So I guess the warning sign is to keep an eye on those ticket counts as it's a good sign the commander can turn his attention to lone wolfs.

The ghillie suits are not that bad... They saved my lives on many occasions in close range encounters. i can't count how many times did enemy soldiers run by me in less the a meter's distance without noticing anything(And get shot in the back of their heads).

I half agree with the OP. Prone snipers shouldn't show up in the satellite scan but should with the UAV. To make them invisible to both would make them too powerful and too many players would be snipers. Plus - with the UAV being visible in the new patch - snipers would be able to tell that they are visible and move to a new location. Obviously, people should be able to 'spot' them still if they can see them.

So how is a commander wasting his artillery by taking out a sniper in which his team can't see?

I’m sure if the commander sees three of four red dots or armour, and is safe to drop artillery he will choose that option, and if he hasn’t got a clear drop pick on the sniper, one less mug to worry about.

I say give the Engineer some body armour!

Snipers are one of the hardest classes to play and the UAV thing does kind of make it even harder then in previous BF games for snipers. But its not really a problem unless they're closer then 10m from you. Thats why you have clays

Yep. Snipers really should have "invisibility" when prone.

I believe that BF2 snipers ought to be immune (invisible) from commander spotting and UAV scans when they are going prone. It sucks major colon when you find a really good sniping spot only to have your position given away to the other team cause of commander "hacks". However, players should still be able to spot snipers if they see them. Well, on second thought it would be cool if snipers were immune from player spotting as well but I'm sure that would prove controversial.
if you find the right spot to hid the suit does make you almost invisible

I think you hit the nail on the head there Kev.

Sat-scans shouldnt detect snipers. If you think about things in a real-life sense [yes, I know this is a game], a satellite image wouldnt pick up on a camouflaged sniper].

But to make them invisible to the UAV would be a bit too much.

Well pointed out Kev that with visible UAV's in the next patch people [snipers of not] can move away from it to avoid detection.

And finally, to rebuke any class as being useless is retarded. Each class has strengths and weaknesses and a role within the team/squad. I dont complain when a Spec-Ops C4's a tank that's posing a threat to me, same as other classes shouldnt complain when the guy spraying them with .50 cal fire catches my M24 round in the face.

Presumeably a Battlefield Recon Satellite see in IR (all of the info I've read on them indicates they do) as well as Vis Light, unless the guille suit were to incorporate heat scattering technology (hello science fiction) why would it NOT be able to pick up a sniper?

Simple answer no unless they physically zoom in on your general area and see you.As has been said a lot here already a snipers job isn't a very high scoring one.A sniper in the true sense of the word is more of a scout spotting enemy units and vehicles while providing cover for advancing teammates by picking off the biggest threats to his team.

You want them to run around in metal air vent suits?
