Ok, BF2 is not real life but DICE in their infinite wisdom decided to include a useless although supposedly functional ghillie suit for the sniper class. As most of you know, a ghillie suit can render a real life sniper practically invisible. I believe that BF2 snipers ought to be immune (invisible) from commander spotting and UAV scans when they are going prone. It sucks major colon when you find a really good sniping spot only to have your position given away to the other team cause of commander "hacks". However, players should still be able to spot snipers if they see them. Well, on second thought it would be cool if snipers were immune from player spotting as well but I'm sure that would prove controversial.
Commanders should not be able to spot "un-prone" snipers

well nah i think thats bollocks really mate.
A UAV scan would not be hampered by a ghillie suit. And as for the commander himself well if he can see them then he can see them, if you have complaints in that department then maybe you should moan that the ghillie suit doesn't make very good camoflague.Comment

Re: Commanders should not be able to spot "un-prone" snipers
Snipers are more usefull then idiot assault/specops troopers running into first flag on karkand, picking off vodnik/humvee gunners, support troopers, and generally anyone that stands still. They are as much a teamplayer as tankers, apc drivers, and other "enemy killing" players.Originally posted by CaptJordussnipers are generally not teamplayers and after the patch their weapons will only be better.
they need to be spotted as easily as possible.
stupid ******* cant fight the right way so they hide.Comment

It's obvious people are very passionate about snipers. Perhaps lots of AWP deaths on counter-strike have given players bad feelings towards snipers? If you don't like the idea of not being able to see snipers appearing as red dots on your radar then switch to sniper and hunt them down yourself. Snipers should not be affected by UAV and commander spotting while they are prone. Now if they're running around like a retard then they are fair game for commander hacks. This would limit a snipers mobility and force them to stick to the same spot in order for them to remain stealthy. Compromise.Originally posted by big_sammy_bwell nah i think thats bollocks really mate.

I agree.
I think snipers should be completely invisible, impossible to kill, and have an included aimbot. It would render this game awesome.
Hell, I think they should also have jet packs, and shoot bunnies when they are in scope mode.

Not so much a waste, there is no guarantee an artillery strike with hit anything... except a sniper. That's one less ticket for the other team, and one less annoyance for your forces. Most of the time I've dropped artillery on a sniper was when there wasn't a better target (enemies moving around spread apart with lots of teammates between them). But a sniper on a ridge by his lone sum is good enough for the time being and the artillery will usually be recharged by the time some other more viable targets come together.Originally posted by bitvomitYeah, that happens to me all the time too. But I kinda agree with the OP, snipers should have somekind of stealth when prone.Comment

I can understand the frustration of being picked off by one at the most inopportune moment.
Sniping, though not the most liked, is a very important part of war. Most players are ready to hop into the heat of battle 'gunz'a'blazin'. Where a sniper sets back, usually gets many less kills per round, and does there thing. Usually with an abundance of patients.
A good sniper should do his best to remain a large part of any team, even if he’s not deep in the action. Using positions to spot and help squads and the commander by keeping an eye out for problem areas.
No kit should be considered "stupid" ...Just the people who miss use their equipment. IE Noob Tubers, and C4 FedEx deliverymen. We all can complain about things we don’t understand. Try sniping for a while.
I don’t like playing AA. But I know in order to be a better squad member, I need to be efficient at all the kits and vehicles. So I watch and learn. (from good players)
Most noobs start playing with the sniper kit at some time those are usually the problematic lone wolfs, who tend to lend no help. Out for just staring through the scope and killing.....they will soon learn. (we hope)
My two cents

I like your point about every class having its own unique skill, and how they all add to a great game.Originally posted by CheckSando

I'm not big on sniping, only because I like getting alot of points.
I think the biggest issue on sniping, is that I can hardly see them from my system, but I have everything cranked up on high and 1024x768. I'll sacrifice not seeing the snipers for an incredibly beautiful and realistic looking game.
And unless I'm on a small map, I'm not big on proning for a long period of time.
To each their own, I'll continue to play as I have always, and come out winner...being any kit I desire, especially the bunny shooting sniper.
PEACE

Re: Commanders should not be able to spot "un-prone" snipers
Thinking snipers aren't team players is really ignorant. Sure some people just want to rack up points, but a good sniper alone or in a squad can cover squads trying to cap a spawn. They can report on soldiers or vehicles moving in on a spawn, let squads know if a spawn is clear or if there's a lot of people around, defend a flag or commander assets, etc. Maybe I'm wrong though? I'm sure there are a lot of tankers that just hate when those ******* snipers kill guys trying to C4 them!
BTW, has anyone posted to the DICE thread asking about stealthing snipers?Comment
