I have to say I agree with the poster. DICE went the wrong way in fact that made it more complicated than it needs to be.

Like he said I want the radius of effect to be doubled or atleast the same radious of effect that a hand grenade has. This would mean no more 5ft shots without dying. Infact its not possible to die at 5 feet unless you jump backwards whilst firing which will no longer be possible.

I have also found the same. Land it within 2 feet next to them and they don't die that's a joke.

However I am accurate at long range, I can land it either on their head or feet from ages away 100+ metres. However this reduced radius damage is a concern and I think they have nerfed the assualt class.

Assault will become a medic with no armour, no self healing medic packs I'm afraid and people will just play medic instead from now on.

Well u guys have thought it out well, and i agree, im a Spec Op-Assault player and i find it very frustrating to have to hit someone dead on, u cant launch an ambush with the tube cause of its splash and how terrible it is and u need a support around but yes things i think need to be changed.

In my experience a clanwar todays is like this: C4 chucking and point blank noob toobing. In this respect the next patch is very welcome. I've been supportive of a minimum arming range long before it was announced. But when it comes to reducing splash damage I'm worried it will make the GL useless. I often use the GL to clear hideouts and roofs by hitting a wall or object near the hidden player. This is my favourite use of the weapon apart from taking out vehicles.

LOL. Why do people want a larger blast radius for the grenade launcher? You'd think common sense would prevail, just common sense isn't so common in the BF2 community as we can tell here in this thread. One of the reasons why nubs use the GL so much is BECAUSE of the large radius. Please don't tell me it isn't very big right now, it's fine as it is right now and does enormous damage whether the beholder is smart or not. I applaud the changes done in the 1.2 patch because infantry combat in this game will be much more balanced. As it is right now, the grenade launcher gives absolute novices the ability to kill the best players in the world with absolute ease. One shot kill(s) and you don't have to aim in infantry combat, what is it about this that people cannot understand?

The AWP cannot be compared to the GL simply because it actually takes skill to use and actually can be countered. Where is the weapon counter for the GL? There is none and this where the concept of balance comes into place. Sure the Assault player is meant to be more capable of killing infantry than others, he should not however be given kills so easily. Use in CQB is not the only problem. It is also the fact that many players use this weapon and this weapon only. -[Skeleton]-[JOE] http://bf2s.com/player/44403106/ is a fine example of this type of player. Never fires a bullet, and hops around with the tube - which he isn't even good with. He has no skill in anything, all he is good at doing is press the left mouse button and the space bar, yet- he gets kills and scores more points than most on the server. A minimum distance will not be enough to weed out these type of players. A reduced blast radius will help encourage players like Joe to actually use their guns at all ranges. Without this necessary change, talentless hacks like him will keep using the tube as a primary weapon and only fire it from a little further away.

On another note, people are saying that the GL is hard to use at mid-long range? LOL. It's easy as. Assault is one of my least played kits yet I've mastered using the thing at all ranges without using it at close range- which is what bullest are for. Overall, if you can aim- you should not be upset by these changes, they will reward the more skilled players and put more of the lazy, cheap and selfish ones back in their place.

Re: The Noob Tube and the real way to fix it

I'm lovin DICE's changes to the GL except the blast radius, what the hell is that about???

What they really should do is only allow the GL to kill with straight dead on hits to the BODY and make splash damage weak (like 1/4th of total health) BUT increase the damage radius even further than the hand grenades, this would put the GL into more a long range prepatory fire role, there's not even a class that really fills this role as it is. You could almost say that support can lob grenades for prepatory fire but you'll TK so many people because of the 5 second det timer and they can't travel as far as the GL can. I always thought the real way this class should've worked when attacking a flag would be more like...

1: dispense all GL rounds to weaken the enemy
2: throw smoke(vanilla)/flashbangs(SF) to cover your approach
3: finish off enemy with your rifle

Re: The Noob Tube and the real way to fix it

Solution: Very simple to fix, make it so that the wielder of explosive projectiles (AT Rockets/ Grenade Launcher) take full damage from their own rounds.
They already take full damage from their rounds, it's just that the range of the GL is 3 feet, so it's pretty easy to kill someone on 3+ feet and not die from it. (at 8 feet or so you take no damage)

The Assault kit should be good in killing infantry at short-medium distances, because it doesn't have any other roles like other kits.

I also agree that the more the minimum range is, the higher the splash radius should be.

you are obviously using the nade launcher incorrectly guys, ive been using it on most maps and get double the kills, and with the rifle (single shot mode less recoil), ive taken out armour + jeeps go up in smoke easy with a well place nade, solution boys: "more pratice"lol

GL changes are still being tweaked of course.

It is supposed to primarly an anti-light vehicle weapon. FAVs and Humvees, but not APCs or Armor or Infantry.

Bravo Six - Great post. And I'd have to agree with the majority of the posters, I can handle #1 and #2, but blast radius? Makes no sense.

And no offense to DICE poster above, but the "ASSAULT" class is for "ASSAULTING". And being war, every weapon in your kit is for whatever you deem it nessesary. Gonna nerf the Defibrilator, since its not intended as an offensive weapon? Or make the SRAW/Eryx so that you cannot shoot it at infantry?

I play this class almost exclusively, for the point that I want to get out there and kill infantry, period. Distance and jump-shoot nerfs won't bother most good assault players, most of my short-distance GL kills are from relocating positions. So after 1.2, I'll run around with the rifle out, big deal. But being able to drop a GL round at the feet of a squad moving noobishly too tight to each other and killing 2-3 of them is priceless :)

And as far as an anti FAV/HUMVEE weapon, it only kills the smaller vehicles in one shot, HUMVEE/Vodnik's take 2 meh.
