Re: The Noob Tube and the real way to fix it

My 'first' post in this thread (#12) was fine...it wasn't until post #20 that I started to get annoyed with your (and people like you) selfish inablilty to "see the bigger picture" for what it's worth.
I'll give you another example why this game is currently imbalanced and why the GL is part of it.
Take a look at the people who have the highest points-per-round scores. What map are they playing most? Karkand. Why? because it has the most choke points AND the most chances for CQC. 80% of the people who play that map 'to score points' play assault and use the GL as their main weapon. That there is the definition of imbalance and that's what DICE is trying to fix. They don't want a game full of GL spamming ''bunnies". That's not what BF is about. Never has been. That style of gameplay has always been shunned in BF and always will be. If you don't think so then your playing the wrong game. That's my civil opinion.

I feel all the GL needed was the arming distance, then it WILL require skill. The radius nerf is a little overboard, but I'm not gonna complain about it.

If it was like this from the start, would we have people whining about how they can't bounce around and kill everyone with the grenade launcher? Prolly not. They'd get over it and pick a different class.

        Heres the GL news!
-Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced.

-Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum time before arming.

I agree, but since so many people who play this game seem to rely solely on 'splash damage', won't they simlpy just switch to spamming hand grenades, which is almost as bad?

Granted, there won't be one-shot-point-blank-kills, like the gl noobs, but it will be the next worse thing, I fear.

If there is a flaw, or weakness in the system. they will find and exploit it.

hand grenade spamming has always been around and is much easier to deal with.
Plus it's a much more realistic tactic than a point blank GL.

True, though almost as annoying. You have a gun, use it. Shoot something, lol.

Yer missing the point here a bit.

The minimum arming distance will end CQC with the GL. Period. You might be able to bounce a shot off someones face at close range, but that's just gonna tick him off now. There will be two distinct thuds. One of the GL round falling to the ground and the plesent sound of the noobtoober's corpse following it.

Now, I donno if you've ever tried to use the GL at medium to long range. I have, however. I make some perty damned amazing shots with it every once and awhile. Those are hard! It does take skill to be able to esimate the arc that you need to launch at and you need a little luck. Since the travel time is really slow compaired to a bullet, your targets have a chance to move outta the way. As it is now, you have to plant that shot within 2 to 3 feet to make a kill. That might sound big, but trust me... it ain't.

With a reduced splash radius AND a proper (much needed and thank you god for seeing it impemented) minimum range, it's gonna get really hard to use that thing effectivly.

Don't take my word on it. Go out and give it a shot. Use that GL at medium and long ranges and see how many kills you can make with it.

Bunny hoping is not part of the topic at hand, that is a problem and it's being fixed so I felt no need to talk about it. Also your first post was the problem, since that's where you called me a "b00b" your second post was fine no blatant insults being tossed around in that one.

Your the one not seing the bigger picture friend, the GL may be powerful on Karkand but it's less so on other more open maps. It's the Blackhawk all over again, because one item of the game is poweful on a certain map people assume it's overpowered and call for a nerf. They nerfed the Blackhawk because of it's dominance on Mashturr which wasn't all that powerful on other maps (even in 1.0 you didnt see much BH squads outside of Mashturr). Where the real solution would have been to increase the AA presence on that map rather then weaken the BH for all maps.

If the GL is dominating on Karkand but not so much on other maps, logically the problem is with Karkand then isn't it? Personally I find no problem with the GL's dominance on Karkand, it's sumply people finding the best strategy on the map. The way around it would be to avoid the choke points not change the GL. People always seem to cry foul when people find what works on certain maps.

That being said there is a GL abuse proble, but he abusive nature comes from the ability to shoot the thing close range and not killyourself in the process, and really only that. If the GL was limited to longer ranges it would be fine, it would also require alot of skill to use truly effectively, since thanks to our friend physics it requires alot of mathemathical thought to properly arc an object to hit a spot at longer ranges. Reducing the radius is just overkill which will result in much less people playing the assault class, which I'm sure DICE doesn't want.

What you and a few others want LoganX seems to want is to make GL useless, tell me would you still cry foul if the GL users would have to be a minimum of 30 feet from their target? Meaning that it would take conciderably more skill to nail the choke points of Karkand since there aren't many spots that far above them. Or would you prefer that the radius be so small that only one person at maximum could be hit by it? Don't you think that's a little silly, it is a grenade after all?

LoganX you also don't seem to get that I agree with you somewhat, you keep reiterating that the GL in CQC is the problem. THATS THE SAME THING I'VE BEEN SAYING THE WHOLE FRIGGIN TIME! Are you even reading my posts? I just don't think they need to reduce the radius on top of it, I agree that it needs to be limited to long range (like real launched grenades). I just feel reducing the radius is overkill and will only serve to render the class less playable rather then more balanced.

Actually Wargimp, I agree with not only your assessment of what the fixes will do. It will make it harder to use...but not impossible.
It will limit it's effectiveness in close quarters and require some (If not More) skill to use at medium ranges.

                          I'm really not missing anything.
The people upset by these fixes because t will change the way they will have to play the game now. Not the fact that it balances it.

I will concede (somewhat) that the radius decrease was unnecessary. However There may be another reason they are doing this that they haven't mentioned as of yet.

I'm actually quite finished arguing my point considering there are plenty of people who agree with me.

Personally, I'm taking the "wait 'n see" aprouch. I'm voicing my personal views as a matter of academic interest.

As I say, give it a shot in-game. Getting kills with the GL at anything other than pointblank is tough. Much harder than straight bullet kills.

As I also said, I'd like to see the blast radius increased, but with a smaller killzone. The fragmentation radius should be larger to promote "proper" use of the weapon vs infantry. Ie, to indirectly spam the enemy 'n chew 'em up a bit.

Side note: I'm suprised no one has realised this/commented on it yet, but with a minimum range it's gonna be a LOT harder to nail those jeeps coming straight at you. Good thing/bad thing? I donno. It's gonna be true tho.

My mistake, regardless it was uncalled for. If you'd read my posts carefully you'll see that the whole time, from post one I wanted to limit the GL in close quarters, which is where I believe the problem to lie. My suggestion to double the blast radius was to make the launcher more useful, but not easy to use at longer ranges. Also to make it more in line with the real life grenades, since one of the things I always do is push for more realism.

Also if you'd read the posts carefully you'll see that the only change DICE is making that I don't agree with it the blast radius change. Which as I've said will make the assault class "less" balanced, since it will limit their effectiveness to kill infantry especially at midium ranges (which is what the GL is really intended for, DICE thinks this way I'm sure since they are implementing the minimum range timer). In the end I feel that it will make the class less playable, which I don't want to see.

Also I'm not being selfish, if you look up my stats you'll see that I play Engineer most, followed by Spec-Op, then Sniper, then Anti-Tank, then Assault, then Medic, then Support. I'm thinking more about the assault players out there then myself, but really I'm thinking about the game as a whole I'd like to see every class be as effective as it can be. My balance phylosophy is always "power up the weaker one" rather then "nerf the stronger one".
