Re: Why many people are quitting BF2 for good -- it's not fun anymore

It's definately true that there'd been a lot less emphasis placed on infantry - the moment a vehicle/aircraft of any sort appears on the scene- any sizeable contingent of infantry is usually overwhelmed (lest they all be anti-tank - which is at times, impractical). Most times, it's just not fun anymore because there ARE people who like playing as infantry - and tend to only use vehicles/aircraft as transport only.

There are a few things I believe need fixing- such as some of the vehicle physics- if a vehicle gets nudged 4 of 5 inches towards me or even 1 foot- that should NOT result in death- I've been shunted by a car in real life (going about as fast as a shunted car in BF2 would go), and all I got was a bruise and a bad temper, I did NOT die!

Also the blackhawk's minigun is a bit too over-powered, in comparison to all other vehicles- the blackhawk is most often abused for spawn-camping. Plus, I do believe that missile emplacements are a bit dodgy.

Other than that- I'm sure that the great lack of team-work in EVERY server is another thing contributing to falling numbers of BF2 players- most often than not, people are in it for themselves; and how do we address that? we can't . And of course- there is the odd "I'm The KingSh1t - and I can diss you all I want" retards who play sometimes - not everybody spends their whole life playing these games, so you can't blame some people for being a bit new and inexperienced. Racism has also occurred on a few servers I've played before - which was appaulling; another thing we can't really fix.

Most of the time when that happens in-game you die not from the actual vehicle damage, but because you've been "pinched" by colisions. If you get caught between 2 colision boxes, the engine just gives up trying to figure what it should do with you and kills ya. The second box can be almost anything... including other players at times.

Just thought ya'd like ta know.

I don't really know how this could be worked around, since not killing a pinched player could result in some nasty problems.

Ah, thanks Wargimp- that sheds a lot of light on why un-manned vehicles are killing me. I am one of those who don't play half as much as some do (I play at net cafe's, where the lag is more often than not- off-putting, the moment I see an enemy unit- I lag, and the next thing I know, I'm on the floor, looking up at the sky like a dead person would.

I enjoy playing as infantry very much- as SpecOps with the gun-unlocked, it's great, and I still enjoy BF2 as I had before; thank goodness it was just 1000 points to unlock the first gun; but I think what happens after that is what had put a lot of BF2 players off- the unrealistic time and commitment needed in order to unlock more guns and attain more medals.

But correct me if I'm wrong- there'd been a patch released to curb that problem?

          Yeah, it's been changed some.
          Check out the ranks here:

Also note that if you are Sergeant or higher and have SF installed, you get 2 unlocks per rank.
Rumor has it that the next patch will give access to 2 more unlocks. Sniper and AT. If you are Sargeant or higher (and SF enabled), you should get 2 free unlocks post-patch.

Well I'll be danged!!! I'm an F***ing sargeant already! (I hadn't played in the past few months due to exams and the lack of a job :P) wait till I get my job... BF2 HERE I COME!!!

*Runs off chanting: "I want guns! I want guns!"

I just wish that you could use your kit unlocks even in single player and LAN games... it'd be cool showing off your wares to your friends (and the AI)- and of course dispatching them with them.

I reckon for Mashtuur City, both the transport choppers should be transport only- perhaps like those field medic helos in Desert Combat. Coz, I reckon if a map is great for urban warfare, keep it that way! Mashtuur I reckon is awesome for tank combat though- because of the wide freeways and roads.

in 450+ hours of playing on 64 player servers i have never seen a J-10 being shot down with an ERYX or a tank shell, and yes helo's can be killed by two shots of a tank but why does it take two?
the majority of people will only get one hit into that helo from their tank before the pilot (if he's savvy) go's just abit higher so he's out of the tank turrets maximum height and then he'll let the gunner kill him, also yes i know that the buggys main machine gun can make mince meat of an attack helo but does that seem right to you when AA should be doing that in the first place, not buggys?

i myself love flying planes and have many kills in one but i'm not going to lie and say that planes are fine and attack helo's are perfect, there not :p

so you got to where you want in the game and now it's your sole purpose to wind everyone else up?

do yourself (and others) a favour and die somewhere.

I love BF2. I won't be quitting for a while. Though some new city maps would be nice.

Strange I thought the whole idea of playing the game was to enjoy a game of modern day combat, not to reach sargent major and then switch into some kind of team killing tard.

this is a prime example of when the idea of global stats and awards goes wrong.

No, this is a prime example of when an antisocial ADD poster child loses the "immediate reward" for pointing the mouse and clicking, and degenerates into an egocentric pr!ck. Not really all that uncommon, and very predictable. Just an attention starved child, in fact.

Sorry, but you are displaying your complete ignorance on this subject. The fact that you are incapable of taking down choppers with mounted guns is just sad.

Re-read, that was only in reference to making planes land. I was saying if planes had to land, it would encourage base campers to wait for planes to come in for repairs. I never said a tank was a way to take out a planes in the air. However, I have take several planes out with a tank, ERYX and a grenade launcher. It was a combination of bad pilots and a little luck.

i find that if you have no life you get bored of games quicker. ppl always complain with so many games that they're isn't much gameplay when they spend months playin like 5-8 hours a day. I just play a couple of rounds a day, and thats usually enuff.
