I totally agree. It needs to be made much, much stronger. It's a waste.
And yes I hate the plane whores and base rapers. When I see that---it shows no skill on the players part.

Well, on the bright side, it's got a phat frikin' load of missiles...
If I'm in it, unless an enemy air unit can sneak up on me somehow... The essex will always triumph :S

The problem is your aim, if you line me up right on a run you'll get me smoking before I kill you forcing me to re-arm adn repair. If there is a second gunner and I've dropped flares I consider myself lucky to escape. Mind you, almost no one ever mans the second gun so this has happened to me twice I think.

AA on ESSEX are for choppers not jets.

I do DAMAGE in the Essex

The best way is to man the Essex while you are commanding, if you run scans as fast as they cycle you will rarely be surprised

Plus arty kills count as AA killsm when you sit in the Essex

The gun on the essex can take out a jet quicker than the jet's cannon can take out the essex (from my experience). It's just the fact that the essex gun is stationary and the jet is super-manuverable, that the jet wins. Having good spotters + fast reactions + keeping your nerve when a jet is pounding you with cannon ammo and just spraying his cockpit with bullets whilst he's flying right at you is the key to winning the duel. Jet dies and you survive with little health on your armour but you've done the job

Wow...

Honestly how hard is it to kill a jet with an essex? Ive killed tons of jets while being in a essex mainly cuz of the overpowered gun. You have to predict where the jet is coming from, instead of shooting at the carrier deck.
Then once you see him, start leading his plane with the your minigun fire and fire a couple missiles.

If he doesnt die at that moment, I guarantee you I left his plane smoking, then he drops his bombs, after he drops them, he might flare, leaving you with a few seconds to get off a few missiles on him.

Nuff said, if you dont know how to use the essex, don't say it sucks, cuz it owns.

What it doesnt own against is choppers, those things can take a alot of bullets!

I've had no problems downing planes in the essex. Radar would be nice, but I don't think it's necessary. You just need to be more alert.

I'm fine with the amount of damage itdoes, but you need to have a beter way to target the planes and get a head start on them. So, yes, I think a radar would be a good thing to have

the essex either needs radar, or longer aa range. stingers/igls need to have thier target box removed and longer aa range. although that stuff doesnt matter if aa missiles still dont work. also weaker aircraft armor would be a good thing, especially in the case of jet to jet cannon dogfighting.
