How do we now that you can't jump throw grenades? C4 chucking is different because you initiate the throw mid-air. But jump throwing grenades involves pulling the pin first, then sprinting, then jumping. The throw is initiated before the jump (or sprint for that matter). Could it th be the case that jump throwing grenades will still be possible?

Even if it isn't, I'm not that disappointed. It almost seems to me like you can throw grenades too far with the jump throw method.

Couldn't care less about the other issues, I am so sick and tired of jumping and proning I would support anything that EA/Dice does to curtail it. As for throwing, you "PLACE" C4, you don't throw it, you "GIVE" med packs and ammo, you don't throw them. I hope they work on getting rid of/punishing the suicide crap too and make one head shot=death every time.

Re: Response to "Interview w/Dice re: 1.2"

There seems to be some confusion over what we will still be able to do and what we won't be able to do. Running and ducking behind cover will still be allowed. I think what they are trying to prevent is a player jumping and going prone in midair so that they are lying flat while in the air and continously doing it so as to present as small a profile as possible. Dolphin diving should not be confused with running and diving for cover. It may well be possible to do it once, just not repeatedly (I hope).
Also as far losing the ability to throw items while jumping, it's hardly that big a deal. First off it sorts out the c4 chucking then detonating issue. I know someone could point out that it wasn't the chucking that caused the problem, it was the quick switching and detonation but in fact the problem with that the 2 could be done together. Now since you cannot throw the c4 far enough away from you to quickly detonate without killing yourself that problem is solved. The next retort would be 'but now we can't throw anything'. Well we'll just have to adapt, play smarter, or even use teamwork!!! Squads who work well together at present should have no problems with the patch.

The biggest issue for me is the red tag bug.

I hardly believe that nerfing the weapons is going to make this patch good. I'm sickened to hear about so many people always complaining about bunny hopping and dolphin diving. It IS very much a valid defensive tactic. If you were being shot at you would most definitely be hauling a$$ and diving behind some cover.
So we won't be able to jump and shoot? That is ridiculous, as is the idea of not being able to toss mines, medkits, ammo...I mean that is not what I would call a "critical" fix. The game kicking people all the way to desktop, the wacky misalignment of spawn points in Zatar, the inability to spawn on your squad leader without them dancing a jig, the FF AA thing going on, getting ressed with no kit, shooting through concrete walls and bunkers, legs sticking out of walls, the damn red/blue garbage...These are critical fixes. Im afraid I do not understand why all the attention to the bh/dd BS!!!
This is going to be a disaster I am sure of it....Wait and see...
Absolutely. Why don't they fix teh bugs before they worry about game mechanics?

I mean I won't be able to grapple up half the buildings in the game now. What about the tallest building on ghost town? A squad sits up there with a claymore on the ladder, you can't grapple up there since now you can't jump and throw. 6 guys sit there, the commander artys it, one guy lives and they all respawn and snipe the whole round. What a bunch of bs...

Why does Dice not understand some fairly simple mechanics going on here?
We don't want jumping to be a vaild defencive tactic.
We DO want to be able to toss stuff.
            We don't want C4 to be insta-poppable.
We do like being able to chuck hooks high enough to grapple the palace on Warlord (this will not be doable if you can't hop 'n toss).
We want GLs to have a minumum range (and possibly more splash).
            *shrug*
Sometimes it's a good idea to not listen to the community (because honestly, just because you play doesn't mean you know a damned thing about mechanics)... but sometimes ya just gotta suck it up and smell the coffee.

I hope this coming patch is good... but I've got a bad feeling from what I've read.

They need to hire you asap!

Because whining is a more poweful tool than complaining.

All suggestion about bunny hoping are whines, such as "omg wtf the suxor!!111", while when you are talking about Red/Blue bug is occasional post on forum like "I believe there is an issue with the game"

Now which one do you think EA will focus more on? "OMG WTF SUXor!11" or "I think theres a problem"

Whoever appears to be more ****ed off gets the attention, simple.

Last night I had a hell of an amusing moment where a couple guys and I had each other pinned behind walls. Neither of us could get a clean shot at the other as the wall was too high to shoot over.

                  So what did we do?
                  JUMP SHOTS!

Halarious! I'm bounving up and down, they're bouncing up and down, we're crackin rounds off at each other, lobbin nades, firing off the toob, and they even tried lobbing C4. I finally got a lucky toob round to land on to othe their wall while they were both airborn and they caught the blast in the face.

Gonna be sad to never see something that silly again!

Re: Response to "Interview w/Dice re: 1.2"

:-/ I think the game itself pretty balanced as it is, they should fix the obvious things like dolphin diving, but really, I think the core game is a very solid product.

For me the biggest problems are.....

It's an Anti-Social game - the chat interface on screen is bad. No one chats. You cannot see player chat, it's lost in a blizzard of default radio messages. These need to be separated...this is a huge problem.

People wouldn't play CS and WoW if they weren't so social. I'm sorry, but you might as well play bots if you want to JUST shoot things. The insults/chit-chat/compliments/complaining.... is all part of the experience, and you just dont get this in BF2.

This problem is highlighted at the end of a round. There is no 10 second restbite to look over scores and compliment/insult other players....what was the point!? To me this is what it's all about in a way :)

Another thing DICE should focus on is the menu. Just gut it, and do something like counterstrike source. Minimal, fast and WORKS.

                    The BF2 menu/game browser is ugly/slow/broken.

Again, I want to emphasise...the gameplay itself is amazingly complex, and yet very solid...please work on the non-gameplay elements :-/

Re: Response to "Interview w/Dice re: 1.2"

Everyone cries for realism when it comes to bunny hopping and dolphin diving. There is no way someone could jump in the air from a prone position, let alone with all that gear on. Kudos to Dice for making the game more realistic!

How then can anyone who supports the elimination of dolphin diving and bunny hopping NOT support the elimination of extending your C4 throw by jumping. Seriously, how many times have you seen an outfielder run-jump-then release the ball mid-air to achieve maximum distance? It’s absurd. If anything you should LOSE distance to your throw by jumping. You never see javelin or shotput throwers jumping to throw the ball farther. AND THIS IS TALKING ABOUT SPORTS where you ARE NOT worried about getting blown up. There is probably not 1 instance in the history of all war were some poor sap stands up in the line of fire, backs up, runs full speed, jumps and throws a grenade.

Yes, it is just a video game. I understand completely. Just don't ask for realism on an aspect of the game you don't like and expect the unrealistic aspects that you DO approve of to remain unchanged. That is all.

Oh yeah...punishes should only be an option if someone has killed you more than once...or something less harsh.

And mine/claymore teamkills....maybe these shouldn't lose people points at all. Or at least, only lose *half* the points of a standard TeamKill.

I don't think people are saying this. I think they mean C4 throwing is a skill right now. If you remove the ability to throw C4 further than just in front of you, you are dampening the effectiveness and fun of the spec-ops class. If they remove jump-throwing, at least add in some method of getting that bit of extra distance on the pack.

For example, nerfing this would instantly make getting explosives badge much, much harder.

Then use claymores or mines. How about asking them to lower the requirements? Why ruin the game just so you can get an explosives badge?

Also.. I think your definition of dolphin diving is warped? I think (hope!) that you'll still be able to run and take cover behind things. It'll probably just increase the delay time it takes to go prone and stand back up again. Dolphin diving is tapping z then spacebar twice and repeating.
I know exactly what it is. I played BF1942 from day 1 same with BF2, and I killed the BH with grenades back then just like I do now..The only thing that is truly warped here is the sheer amount of people that complain endlessaly about non technical aspects of the game. I stated very clearly what seem to the the most critical fixes needed. This is what 40% of the threads are about in these forums...The PROBLEMS and TECHNICAL issues actual bugs that were not meant to be part of the final code that were left in for whatever reason. INstead the reports being made indicate that things we can live with and have learned to life with are changing yet again...
Here is my problem: some people that have been playing for a month or 2 are getting owned by people that have been playing the game since it came out.
Here you have a person with almost every weapon unlock and familiarity of the vehicles and limitations of the weapons....on the other hand you have someone with absolutely no idea what button you use to talk to your squad or how to get into a Hummer....So because of the obvious unbalanced ability in skills between the new players and the other players we are supposed to say yea, let's dumb the game way down so that we can have everyone on an EVEN playing field?
Im sorry but I call Shannanigans on that all the way.

The USMC has nothing to do with anything...I said if you are being shot at you will run and jump for cover, it would be my natural reaction, maybe you would just stand there who knows. This maneuver is evading fire, not BH/DD for the hell of it. And as for the paintball reference, I cannot find the relevance to this thread/topic at all...

Of course, when a person shoots and kills you with a 203 or GP40 they are noobs, of course. It all makes sense now. Instead of whining, learn to use your own weapons for a change.
