Re: Q for all the mouse Aviators......

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro right now (150% sensitivity, cost me $30).

Before that, I flew planes with my mouse sensitivity set to 2.00 for usual play, vehicles, boats, and helicopters. For planes, I had sensitivity set to 25, with Yaw/Pitch at 15.

Your not supposed to be with a mouse

You can get more sensitivity out of the game than that, but it will f*ck your finer things (like sniping) if you turn up the sensitivity of the mouse in windows also. The windows mouse settings for sensitivity directly have an effect on the game. So if your into very precise shooting, like sniping or just pickin people apart for mid-far distance with an auto, do not do this as you will notice that your crosshair has a tendency to skip a pixel or two.

Best way to get used to very high sensitivity settings, don't do it all at once, move it up by one increment every day or two. If you do it this way, you will hardly notice the transition because it is minimal every time you do it.

I used to fly in DC with windows mouse setting at high and the game at 10, you could do some pretty crazy sh*t with the flick of the mouse.
If you "get more sensitivity out of the game" by fiddling with the mouse settings in windows you can always lower the sensitivity for shooting ingame to not "f*ck your finer things (like sniping)" and still have a very high plane-flying sensitivity.

Hmm, it seemed to still mess with my ingame settings, like skipping over a few pixels, even when I had them at a lower setting. Part of that problem may be that my mouse is a couple years old also and does not have the higher dpi abilities that the newer ones have.

I have no idea how you guys can fly with a mouse.

yea so here's a stupid question. What does increasing/decreasing the yaw/pitch do? I've always just had things maxed cause i thought i'd get more manuverability. I'm a pretty good pilot so i assume it was working out. Anyone care to explain?

e/ oh and mouse flying is quite easy. I tried it with my gamepad and analog sticks. WOW so hard.

I feel the same, except the other way around. I prefer a crappy old Sidewinder joystick for planes (not flying them much though), but using a joystick for choppers in THIS game?
Just plain brutal. The choppers are modelled after randomly thrown playdoh already, I need every bit of "feeling" for what the chopper's doing I can get.

Put it on average and use the table for a mousepad lol.

Well this is the first pc game I've played with choppers, so I have nothing to compare to. But i mean, what the hell do you use for controls that gives you all of this "feeling". I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious.

Hey, I've always been a fan of chopper games that allow you tandem multiplayer, and most of those are extremely well-flyable with a joystick. Not so BF2.
About the feeling: I always feel that fixed-wing aircraft are more forgiving than choppers, when it comes to overreacing/oversteering, despite the plane's insane speed. That is not to say that your fighter pilots have less skill of course. It just means to me, that I need a LOT of leeway for my "stick" controls to move when in a chopper - I need to be able to make everything from minute corrections to an instant rollover with the same instrument.
I can't do that with bf2's joystick controls. With my mouse I have 20x20cm of directional space to move around in, with the joystick maybe a radius of 5-7cm. Also, due to that, a mouse reflects gentle "curved" movements much more accurately - if you first push fast, then slower and slower, your chopper's nose will dip sharply first, then continue to dip slowly.
If you try that with a joystick, the nose will jerk down violently and then just react not much. Not very useful to me.

I have both at 10 and the yaw/pitch at 5 each.

There are three axes when flying and these are Yaw, Pitch, and Roll.
Yaw is the movement right to left. It is controlled by the plane's rudder in the tail. If you yaw to the left or right your view of the horizon doesn't change but your heading does (I hope this makes sense?).
Pitch is your movement up and down. When you "pitch forward" you are pointing the nose of the plane down and when you "pitch backward" you are pointing the nose up (relative to oyour original postion of course). I believ the pitch of a plane is controlled by the ailerons (spelling?), but I'm not certain.
Roll is your relative postion to the horizon (or any fixed point). Rolling left or right will spin the plane on an axis that runs nose to tail without changing its pitch or its heading.
If this didn't make sense it's because your parents never told you that you're retarded. Sorry to break the news.
