Re: To all of you bunny hoppers, dolphin divers, and apologists...

Obviously some things are beyond realistically implementing into any game with the current technology that is widely available to the public. I'm not expecting a game that requires a supercomputer to replicate every detail and facet of real life nor do I think anyone else is. It's not even possible. You could argue that even the most realistic military flight simulator is so far removed from reality that it isn't worth arguing since you can't die in it, if you were so inclined, so what's your point?

It only takes a few minutes to read the official BF2 website to see that it could reasonably be assumed that this game was created to be a somewhat realistic modern military combat game. They even use the actual term "realistic" when referring to physics. It was under this premise that I purchased this game. Obviously, a game of this scope could not possibly recreate real life to the degree you are suggesting. But, it's easy to see that an attempt was made to give it a realistic feel, despite the dolphin diving/bunnyhopping/"noob tube" stuff.

Many of you argue that this is an arcade style game. Well, with everything you pointed out up there, I would have to say that there is plenty of arcade type substance to keep you arcade style players happy. If you were to divide the community between people geared towards realism and people geared to arcade, then it would appear that you arcade style players have the upper hand as you made it so abundantly clear. What's wrong with losing your bunnyhopping, etc. abilities to satisfy the other group of us. You'll still have your magical parachutes right?

Also, if you read the recently posted Xfire Dev Chat log (http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46266) you can read that bunnyhopping and such was not how they intended the game to be played.

So I don't think saying that's how the game is meant to be played is a valid argument anymore - they are clearly exploits.

I don't spend much time bunny hoping, I have been a BF player since BF42-DC-BFV and play the game for the joy of using vehicles. I don't expect it to be reality, it's a ****in video game.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with bunny hoppers or divers, nothing that a spud launcher aimed at the ground underneath them can't fix. Nothing a shotgun can't take care of either. Is it really that difficult to deal with? I think not.

I look at that website, and I really don't see anything that gives me the impression of 'Simulator' from it.

The realistic physics your talking about, that is the Havoc physics engine they integrated into the Refractor2 Engine that they are referring to, as in ragdoll effects for the models. And even that isn't realistic, that is more along the lines of John Woo filming physics.

Re: To all of you bunny hoppers, dolphin divers, and apologists...

Whoa! I never said I expected it to be reality. I believe I loosely used the phrase, "somewhat realistic". There is a big difference and if there's someone out there who plays this as some sort of alternate reality, then there are some issues.

Whatever the effect is of the realistic physics that are integrated into the game engine is neither here nor there. The fact is, that the casual gamer such as myself, and I would suspect is the norm, would read that and be led to believe that this game would be somewhat realistic. Is that a fair assumption? I think it is. With that being the case, the casual gamer looking for that type of game would be led to believe this is a good buy, which I did. I still think it is...I've had some fun but the tactics that one almost needs to use to be competitive are not what I had in mind. I can jump and shoot 203's into the ground all day and did once upon a time in Quake 2 (well, rockets in that case) but that was not was I was looking for when I bought this game. It is not the type of gameplay I was led to believe would be in it.

The bottom line is this. There are compromises that have to be made in the sake of gameplay and balance. Of course it's not going to be a sim and I never expected it to be but I did expect a reasonable amount of realistic type play, tactics, etc. Things such as red names above enemies are there for the sake of gameplay and it's reasonable since you are unable to completely take in your surroundings while looking at a computer screen. Unbreakable walls, etc, are likely that way because of limitations of the game engine. Again, another reasonable compromise. Almost literally jumping four feet off of the ground while in the prone position is not easy for me to compromise on because it is something that does nothing for gameplay and is likely a relatively easy fix. If you read the post a few up, you'll see that apparently EA agrees with me. Now they are "fixing" the dolphin diving, etc.

I also noticed that so many of you say that this is just a game, get over it. I realize that's the case but some of you still seem to get so worked up over "just a game".

Why is this forum full of idiots who have to go on about people who actually had a problem with the game as whiners!!!!...Idiots.
I'm actually looking forward to the patch I've slowly started playing BF2 again but can see the increase in bunny hopping noob tubers as soon as started playing again (left the game for over a month).
About time they sorted out the dolphin divers and now maybe the game will be about skill now not total fluke.
Finally looks like they have finally listened though it's taken months but looks like they can actually make this game work.
Only another two months and they'll have probably made the patch:hmm:

i think that's all BS restricting different things i agree on updates on guns
and improving game play but i hate restriction i for one don't bunny hop or dolphin but hey thats the game adapt to it
i don't think it should change to benefit the player who can't deal with it find another way to stop them from flopping or hopipng by next year you the only thing you will be able to do is carry a damn knife BS

( THAT'S THE GAME DEAL WITH IT)

The general response I hear so often is is along the lines of deal with it because it's part of the game. But the funny thing is, it won't be soon.

Also, just because one doesn't want to dolphin dive, etc. doesn't mean they can't play or can't adapt. It just simply means they don't want to. For you guys that think this is some sort of skill, I ask you how hard is it to actually jump and hit prone in the air? If you consider that a skill and the rest of us that don't do it to be unskilled, then I truly feel sorry for you and you should probably get out more. :)

                              @ PBJTime

An engine that simulates a destructible environment is so far away from whaaa? Need a super computer? The GeoMod engine has been out for several years now and was used in Red Faction 2. Would like to see them continue upgrading it to accommodate large network games and bigger levels. The biggest hindrance to that now days, would be network traffic to the client, but with broadband abound all over now days, they could probably push that a bit harder.

As I said before, the only thing realistic in this game is the models, and that is about it, everything else is out the window. Based on the characteristics of the game, you have more of an arguement for arcade style games than even a sliver or realism.

In the end, EA has appeased a group of the community that couldn't adapt, that's fine. But, in the end, those same people are still going to be stuck in still waters while the ones that have adapted to the games changes are going to continue to dominate the game.

Don't get so worked up over it.

as far as the comment (dont get so worked up about it) i could care less about the situation it's all about restriction for me

is bunny hopping/dolphin diving a skill

well lets see what can you get out of doing this 1 causing your aponent
to be totally comfused 2 using up all there ammo 3 without getting killed
4 and when the time is right they leave you laying in the mud calling a medic so is that a skill i think it is wich out of the two is more skilled in that situation buny hopping/dolphin diving is a last minute resort to save you own a$$

like i said before i do not not how do to that and i can;t stand it when i
run into a bunny hopper /dolphin diver thet get me every time so i think
in a close counter situation the bunny hopper/dlphin diver are the more skilled player use of any means to stay alive

i think most people who complain about it care more about how it will affect there stats more than anything else i think that is the real reason for alot of players to hate it so much because there to take out

IT MOST DEFINATLY A SKILL OR ANYBODY COULD DO IT:cry:
