Re: To all of you bunny hoppers, dolphin divers, and apologists...
Obviously some things are beyond realistically implementing into any game with the current technology that is widely available to the public. I'm not expecting a game that requires a supercomputer to replicate every detail and facet of real life nor do I think anyone else is. It's not even possible. You could argue that even the most realistic military flight simulator is so far removed from reality that it isn't worth arguing since you can't die in it, if you were so inclined, so what's your point?
It only takes a few minutes to read the official BF2 website to see that it could reasonably be assumed that this game was created to be a somewhat realistic modern military combat game. They even use the actual term "realistic" when referring to physics. It was under this premise that I purchased this game. Obviously, a game of this scope could not possibly recreate real life to the degree you are suggesting. But, it's easy to see that an attempt was made to give it a realistic feel, despite the dolphin diving/bunnyhopping/"noob tube" stuff.
Many of you argue that this is an arcade style game. Well, with everything you pointed out up there, I would have to say that there is plenty of arcade type substance to keep you arcade style players happy. If you were to divide the community between people geared towards realism and people geared to arcade, then it would appear that you arcade style players have the upper hand as you made it so abundantly clear. What's wrong with losing your bunnyhopping, etc. abilities to satisfy the other group of us. You'll still have your magical parachutes right?
