Re: Silliest server rules you've seen...

When it comes to curse words, who cares? Most have basic meanings, and their synonyms (like sex and fu*k) are just variations on letters and pronunciation. So why is it so bad?

Other words, like racial slurs, are LOADED with bad juju - emotions, history, hate, prejudice, bigotry. Racial slurs should never be tolerated.

But who am I hurting if I say sh1t? Is crap somehow better? Poop? Seriously - what's the difference? Curse words are superficial taboos.

And to a popular point - is a game that simulates war between nations, violence, headshots, brutal hand to hand killing, and hardcore competition really a platform to push a moral agenda? Ranked server admins who kick for anything short of intentionally inflammatory cursing need a big reality check.

LOL i hate the servers that don't allow swearing? I mean come on...1st and 3rd graders are being asked about touching eachothers privates in CAL.

We are Shooting people in the heads and LoL or LMAO or better LMFAO when we get in good kills. We are killing, Hurting, shock paddling, and if we had the option rapping eachother, all in the spirit of the game play...but what ever you do don't say Sh*t. Blow up thy fellow man, but tho shall not say Dam*? How stupid are these rules.

I know I know..."But teenagers are playing this game" Go to you local HS and listen to students, they cuss more then we do. Did they learn it from this game and others like it, or from home or from movies? PG-13 movies say F*ck why can't we in a teen game? BTW it was 'Chronicles of Riddic' PG-13 and Vin said F*ck in the first 7 mins.

But the Stupidest cr*p I saw was when I was playing a server and got kicked for saying Cr*p. Then I rejoined and said Darn and got kicked? WTF!?!?!?!?

BF2 is not a very violent game. It's illogical to argue that swearing should be allowed because its a violent game.

Not to mention people may impose whatever rules they feel appropriate on their servers. Not being able to swear on a game server has never been something thats bothered me. I'm not sure why people are so ademate about this.

LOL not very Violent? So besides the main and ONLY real point to the game is to Kill or be killed its not violent? Unless you got a Dodge Ball version when you bought BF2 I think that it is stupid to say BF2 isn't very violent...maybe not real life violent but it is VERY violent.

Now granted my chain of lodgic might be flawed but using "its a teen game so no cursing should be allowed" is even more flawed. The T rating even says "Online gameplay may..." Implying that Games online arn't going to be rated teen.

I totally disagree with your post.

I admin a Counter-Strike server and here are the rules we apply

No Swearing/Whining or any form of disrespect
                No hacks ...

                So... WE ARE ADULTS
Most of our members are over 30, many are married and some even play IN THE SERVER WITH THEIR KIDS.

                So no swearing.

We play games to have fun, not to listen to little kids say WTF or BS anytime they get killed...

YOU GOT KILLED THATS IT, Come back and try and kill us...
It is immature to complain. thats it thats all.

The reason why we kick for bs, wtf or whatever is because we promote Respect, teamwork and good sportsmanship... not a server for all those uneducated kids that swear, bitch and whine when things dont go their way

Compared to say, GTA, sure BF2 isn't "very violent". But it's violence. You're awarded points for being efficient at murdering other players. The presence of blood and gore becomes an issue of aesthetics. The game teaches excellence and victory through killing other people with guns, knives, bombs, and the like.

The point is that enforcing morals about issues of language in the context of a violent game is laughable, especially since someone saying f*ck is relatively mild compared to knifing someone to death and then teabagging their corpse.

I get kicked for saying "wtf" but not for shooting someone in the head and then unloading hundreds of bullets into their dead body.

The language cops need to pull their heads out of the ground and start exercising some consistency. Of course, these are probably the same people who always play USMC and feel like they're waging a glorious crusade against Islam. And it's all healthy, justified and wonderful - as long as you don't tell the guy you just shot in the face to f*ck off. That would be disrespectful.

If you have a you kid playing this game, the least of the kids' problem is hearing the F-word. His parents probably swear more then we do, especially when Dog the Bounty Hunter shows up.

Buy your kids a hockey stick and kick 'em outside to play in the street (watch for traffic campers).

...this coming from a guy who's let's his son drive a tank....in Local Multiplayer mode....hehe.

Seriously though, if you are allowed to type WTF? or if television says Fudge instead of the F-word...really...what is the difference? What are we 1920?

Don't get me wrong. If my son would swear, I'd take the switch to his butt and his Mom's (just for good measure)....KIDDING.

Yeah, its not very violent. No blood, no gibs, nothing like that. The violence is cartoonish, not graphic.

And no one is forcing anyone not to swear in the game. If you see a server that prohibits swearing, find another one. There are thousands and thousands of servers out there, and I'd bet a minority of them don't filter swears. None of the servers I play on do.

This sums it up for me, and it's why I have a swear filter on my CS:S server. I'm an adult, and most swearing on a server is bitching or namecalling. The swear filter weeds out the kiddies.

And I still don't get why this is even an arguement, since there are thousands of servers that don't have a policy against swearing. Find one you like without a filter. Put it in your favorites. Go play there and stop your whining. Problem solved. Not very hard, is it?

All we do with this debate is go around in circles, where one half says "omgz no way thet sux fkrs!" and the other half says "Grow up".

                                > No punishing for accidental TK's

I understand the nature of this rule, but I think enforceability is the issue.
What one person calls an accident, someone else will think is premeditated. Especially when there are vehicles involved.

                                >No nade spamming.

I have to assume this means standing next to a supply box and just endlessly tossing grenades. Either way, it's a cheap tactic, but nothing to whine about. Just grit your teeth and get them next time.

                                >No prone jump.

I agree with the rule, but until Dice does something to eliminate this as a "design feature", then just enjoy the satisfaction of them dying tired.
Maybe I'm not as angry at bunnyhoppers as I should be, but I've been doing this stuff awhile, and it's just easier and healthier to beat them without stooping to their level.

                                >No bunny hop.

                                See above.

                                >No stealing enemy vehicles.

                                See http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41998

                                > No bad language

Meh, I don't play BF2 to read people's inane chatter. Maybe people should spend more time playing instead of staring at the console waiting for someone to say a naughty word. Besides, don't you think there are way better things to fight against in this world than bad language?
