Yeah on Sharki they get annoying. I myself am (to myself that is) a great AT specialist. But it's hard to hit helo's with good pilot's. There's like 3 AA's in sharki if they have the hotel they can rape the construction site all day long.

    Need more AA!!!

Like drunkenpirate said, an AT will do it. If they are hovering you cant really miss!

Well its about time we have a dedicated anti-chopper thread. Already have ones against artilitary, jets, tanks, uavs, its about time choppers join the show.

Chopper with a gunner is what we call "the power of teamwork", if you get owned by teamwork its only your own fault, however its not like its all powerful, they can either hover and eat AT rocket or start evasive manuver and become harmless.

Now I wouldnt mind more people start the hovering technique, a hovering chopper with a gunner is the the easiest kill for a jet pilot next to a boat.

It's the worst with the MI-28 and that dman 30mm cannon, it's just TOO powerful. THe splash damage is enormous. I always remember, when i used to be crazy about getting the CObra on SHarqi at the roof. THe enemy heli would come right over, and destroy us all with the 30mm cannon, i learned my lesosn, never just wait for a vehicle to spawn, at least do something. But i don't play sharqi much anymore.

Actually Sharqi sucks because of how small it is. The AA at the Southernmost MEC base can lock up helos all the way across the bay, while the helos can't even see them because of the gay fog. The AA site at the Docks or whatever it's called can lock up helos on top of the TV station.

Re: Hovering helicopters with gunners are just too effective

A someone who delights in getting his chopper into firing position on Wake, I can give ya a couple tips for dealing with them/me.

As mentioned AT rounds can wreak a perfectly good hambergar making session. Try to aim for the cockpit since a good hit can kill the pilot in one shot.

Know where the AA positions are and know how to use 'em. Sometimes even just lighting up that whirlybird with a lock tone is enough to drive him off. Lock, shoot, wait for flares to drop, shoot again. You should be able to get some rounds into him.

Use the machine guns mounted on the transports! Those things is gold for chewin up choppers.

If he's hovering over a particular spawn point, try spawning at the next one over. That should give you plenty of space to stay alive long enough to get a jeep/AA emplacement/AT kit.

If you're a sniper type and have a m95 handy, hovering choppers give ya good "kill the mutha effin pilot" shots. Besides, we know Wake is a haven for snipers anyway. Might as well haul out that Barret and try to do some good work, eh?

Don't let your Airfield fall!! On wake, the airfield is the most critical base. Lose it you've lost the air. Not only have you lost all your air assets, but you've also given the USMC a handy place to fix their smokin choppers.

Hope ya find these handy... er, unless I'm the one whoring it up in the chopper. In that case, forget everything I just said.

Re: Hovering helicopters with gunners are just too effective

idk about wake's helos. I've piloted guys in the cobra or Z-10 and literally seen them fire at AFK guys and not kill them right away. The machine guns on those 2 choppers amounts to a MP5 and some duct tape to stick it to the front of the helo. At times, yes, they can be very annoying on infantry, but there are plenty of good tactics. I've taken down countless attack helos with the .50 cal on a vodnik/humvee/etc.. and the AT class and even a GP30/M203 round will make them smoke enough to run away.

The MI-28, well, there's another story. 5-6 of us played on Sharqi the other day, us on the ground took the TV station (bye bye cobra), and 2 of our guys got into the Havok and proceeded to rape every flag the US had. When it was all done, our gunner had a score of 56/4.

I'm not a proponnent of nerfing things, but that nade launcher cannon is a bit overpowered. And it really amounts to the splash damage, which is insane. No need for accuracy, just spam till it overheats, rinse and repeat. I've even piloted for gunners who stayed away from the TV missle, but I was able to position them so that the cannon alone took down cobras, blackhawks, etc...

Re: Hovering helicopters with gunners are just too effective

I used the m95 to take out the pilot of an attack heli that was hovering over a flag. It's a massively gratifying feeling to drop the almighty uberkiller with one shot. It was a great feeling to watch it careen into the ground (with the exception of the wreckage falling on a teammate).

But stick an AT rocket up his tailrotor and he'll think twice about sitting there like a duck.

And use the vehicle mounted 50's, for god's sake. Even if you don't kill him, you can certainly put him to "Holycrapgetmethe*@%^outofhereright*$@*^ingnow!" status.

And if you're feeling particularly crazy, airburst some C4.

Geez guys don't forget about using the noob tube on attack helicopters -- it does really good damage and I've personally shot down a few pilots who decided to hover near my location [plus it doesn't give them any warning whatsoever].

Re: Hovering helicopters with gunners are just too effective

The shear effectiveness of the choppers when used right exists for the sole purpose of making us dedicated ground pounders feel really, really good about ourselves when we bring one down...

Seriously, for anyone how has every complained about the state of AI in FPS's these days and the fact everything is too easy in games... They have not played enough BF2 on reliables servers against decent players.

It is funny that due to the last change choppers are harder to kill as they are now used as a dedicated gun plateform or simple dropping off troops rather than capping (which always made them an easy target)...

They tend to stand off at longer range making it harder to hit them with the AT missiles. But any vehicle mounted machinegun or fixed emplacement will seriously give them something to think about...

                          Rock - Paper - Scissors

                          J10 beats Cobra, yadda, yadda.

In particular 1 AT missile [especially a hovering chopper] should send him back to the pad with his tail between his legs. Support MG not a bad choice either to get his attention. 2 Jeep MG's and he won't get too far.

                          The MEC chopper chain gun is rediculous and the miniguns on the BH are overboard but again, it's all about the food chain;

                          Jets
                          Choppers
                          Tanks
                          APCs
                          Armored Jeeps
                          Infantry kits
                          Snipers

Oh yeah, spawn elswhere, forgot that one, there are many gripes but they all have their remedies.
