Hovering helicopters with gunners are just too effective

I was playing wake island just a while ago and there was a hovering attack helicopter with a gunner. Now, a hovering helicopter with a gunner is more effective than any god mode cheat could ever hope to be because, unlike a god mode cheat, you can move around really fast to ensure you get the most kills possible in a short amount of time. The skill of anyone but that heli pilot became almost completey irrelevant.

I won 80% of the battles I fought against non-helicopters yet still got a bad k/d ratio. This is one of the key problems of these things (and I'd say airpower in general, but that's a different story). The best or worst player in the world would do exactly the same when, on foot, pitted against a skilled heli pilot with a gunner.

And no, I couldn't have avoided it. It's hard to make a more logical statement than to say I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. So, how to deal with this? Encourage dog fighting. That way, aircraft will spend less time focused on infantry (and therefore the skill of the groundie will be what prevents him from getting loads of deaths, not good luck) and more time figthing their own kind.

How to do this? First, I'd say make the guns of less effective against ground targets, for example, no splash damage. Another solution is to make the TV guided missles easier to guide, but less powerful. This way, it would be easy to hit other helis with it, and it would do just enough damage to destroy the heli, but not enough to destroy, let's say, a tank (however, this would make armor more powerful).

Hovering chopper is an easy target for 1 AT guy. I don't really see an issue, sure I've been raped on this same map by these people but I spawn as AT and shove an SRAW up his tailpipe, they will fly off instantly because thy don't want to lose their killing machine.
By the time they have returned most of us have traversed the hill and into their airfield.

No choppers are fine as they are. Takes skill to be an effective gunner.

It takes a good pilot, a good gunner, and good teamwork to pull off. I know it's rare, but that's what happens when people work together!

it also takes skill to effectivly hover the chopper, or at least the way I do it. I don't sit one one place when I fly, I am constantly moving yet I keep the gunner in a great spot to rain down bullets. All it would take though is one or two hits from an AT guy, and I fly the heck out of there. For those people that actually really hover, go as AT, aim right at the pilot seat and let one fly. If you are lucky, it will kill the pilot. Choppers are very easy to deal with as long as you have some AT guys and a jeep. Nothing scares off pilots faster than their health bar depleting rather rapidly.

lol, Heli's on Wake? F35 or J10, not a problem. Now Sharqi Penn. is another story.

Guys, please READ my posts before responding...that's kind of why I take time to type them:

"The skill of anyone but that heli pilot became almost completey irrelevant."

EDIT: Druken pirate. I tried that, but since the AT class doesn't spawn with this weapon out so the helicopter can usually kill you before you have time to take it out.

And yeah, the jets were the only ones killing it. My underlying point is that no amount of skill could avoid getting killed by it.

So, just because you a few times got killed at spawn, you wanna redo the entire balance?? Have you never been killed by other weapons at your spawn?

This just sounds like a reverse "whatever killed me has to be adjusted so it cant kill me anymore"-post that we see a 1000 times in every forum.

Helicopters shouldnt be able to take 3 AT missles, but their effectiveness when hovering doesnt bother me really. Just makes it easier to hit.

Not a few times...it was a really long game but I'd say about 30 times (I had about 40 deaths).

Attack helos only take 2 AT rockets I believe.

Yeah thats right, i just checked. They must sometimes seem to be able to take 3 because of the lag.

And so begins the labelling of vehicles/weapons. Jets, BH, Atry and aparently now Attack Helis
