Don't you have something new to say? Instead of your inane bitching?
UAVs CAN SEE THROUGH WALLS! How many times must I say this? They have IR Cameras so they can not only see that Sniper who thinks he's sneaky hiding in that bush, but also see that ambush waiting in a building for the approaching armor column or Recon Patrol. Perhaps if you people actually learned about the military the less idiots there would be.
Also, if you think there's a UAV above you, MOVE! The UAV is not going to stay stuck to you! This should encourage actual Sniper Tactics, who shoot and displace to a new location, not spend the entire round sitting in one place asking for the Commander to drop a supply crate next to him! People can't seem to accept that in BF2, the old fashioned "Camper" is dead due to the Commander's abilities, if the Camper is not a smart one, either the Commander or one of the soldiers will spot him out and all hell will break out!
If they changed 3 things with the arty i would be sooooo happy
Here are my genious ideas...
1) a commander should not be able to drop a crate and repair his own stuff. Ppl that disagree with that all i can say is that try being a spec ops dude and go blow up there stuff. The commander will keep dropping crate after crate. The only way to counter this is resupplying using his crates and them blowing them up. You find you will have to do that all map until someone snipes you.
2)lengthen the time the arty respawns
3) and 3 the commander on your team should be able to detect arty coming down from the enemy commander and then use voip system to relay that information to the sqaud leaders. It will encourage more use of the voip system within squads
What I want to see is the newly spawn soldier should have 2-5 seconds to impervious to damage at base. In that case, artillery wouldn't be issue to me.

I believe this was intentional. If you want to keep the enemy's assets down, you have to dedicate some man power to doing it. It's a trade off. Some Spec opps guys are perty much off the field in favor for repressing enemy command assets.
Speaking as a commander, I can tell ya it's almost impossible to get anyone to repair those assets. It gets very annoying when you've had your eyes poked out, made a drop to support the troops, and and engineer RIGHT BESIDE your UAV, and they still come back with "No sir" when you order them to repair it! In organized games, this isn't as true since those teams tend to work together better, but the game has to be optomized for fun pubbing. That's what sells.

Maybe a bit, but I don't think anything too dramatic needs doing. You can't really do as much damage with artty as people seem to make it out. Not on the large scale anyway.
Also, being a commander should have SOME rewards (aside from points)!

An interesting thought, but I doubt it would really work out so well. Besides, on foot you can hear enemy artillery coming in. If that's not enough warning... ah, nothing will be!

I hear it after i die lol
Why not have your commander detect it. Its just a bonus if your sqaud leader and commander have a mic. Just like using voip in a squad is a bonus. working out so well doesnt really matter. Just like ppl dont use voip. Its just another way to encourage mics and teamplay and sqauds.

makes sense to me
Hmm... my saying "would work out so well" was a cop out. I really should have given you better than that.
The first issue is that we have a bunch of people screaming about "unrealisitc" aspects of the game. Detecting shells in flight then computing their esimated target is hard! Not quite impossible, but less probable than a UAV being able to detect heat signatures inside buildings.
I'm not much for arguing "realism" in this game tho.
From my personal persepctive is would just be sorta like playing poker but having to show your hand. Suprise artillery is something that a good commander has to actually watch out for. A well placed volley can bust up your plans real gud.
I dig your point about encoraging VOIP, but there's already a lot of incentive for commanders to be talking (giving specifics on enemy troop movements, watching for unguarded flags, keeping an eye out for nasty suprises)... yet they usually don't.
trying to pinpoint a strike is almost impossible! i have sat in the middle of an artillery strike as a tank and taken NO damage. as an infantry once the first strike is down you can generally avoid getting killed if you can be arsed to get off your bum and MOVE. the amount of times ive seen ppl just sit there while bombs rain down around is stupid.... (not to mention those that run in )
artillery is only the worst function in that it isnt that accurate :P the damage it does is not that great and a good spec op team will make sure you dont have to worry about it much >:)

Until the commander drops his supplies down to repair it.....now that is a little questionable.

Too bad if they disabled the ability to repair assets via supply drop we'd have a bunch of threads bitching about nobody coming to help repair the assets..
Somebody's always going to be dissatisfied with SOMETHING, so why is there so much bitching about everything on the forum? I don't get it.
if they made it take longer to reload or whatever, it might be better. the whole rain or arty shells every 15 seconds gets really annoying. it should be disabled on city maps too.
