Hmmm lets do that math... 5 hours of work = $50 = BF2 = 150 hours of fun... i think thats a pretty good deal don't you think? so 3 hours of work = $30 = BF:SF = ??? hours of fun... until you play it, don't knock it, it discourages people from buying a potentally very fun game.

Usually kids that play video games for that long are not too good in the math department.... O ya, BTW idk what your doing for a job but most teens (and they make up the majority of players) make $10 an hour. Think about that....

From what I have read it is my understanding that there will be no jets in SF maps--that alone makes the expansion pak a 'must have'!!!

Why don't you stop complaining and actually read some reviews about the game, instead of basing your entire opinion on a couple of screenshots and some missing guns?

I would consider buying Battlefield 2 SF but the thing that really deters me is the look of the SAS. Their gear looks nothing like real life and they rarely even wear helmets. Personally they look s**t.

Having read all the previews for BF2-Special Forces, I find it hard to justify spending money on it.


While the concept of night vision and zip lines is a neat feature, I can not see how they can justify it as THE key element to make people want this game.


Sure the SAS and USN Seals get some nice cool weapons, but the FOUR OTHER FACTIONS ALL GET THE SAME MEC WEAPONS FROM BF2!!!!

Cool infantry weapons was what I thought was going to be a major part of this expansion. Yes, I see some nice infantry oriented maps, but what about the guns?!

The Russians alone have produced some very innovative designs as of late; what about the VSS Vintorez from Desert Combat?

Almost any weapons manufactured in any country could have been included for the Rebel and Insurgent factions; doesnt take much imagination to consider that they could smuggle these weapons in, supplied by wealthy, foreign sympathizers.

Again, we see favouritism towards the western forces that was apparent in the map balance issues of the original BF2.

Why would I want to play as anyone other than SAS or Seals?! What new and exciting things are there for the Spetnaz, MEC, Insurgent and Rebel forces?!

Nothing.

There are excellent BF2 maps coming out from the modding community, AND THEY ARE FREE.

Yes, I can already see players moaning they were autoswitched to the team that didnt have the nice shiney new weapons.

Why pay $40 for an expansion that give you so little in return?

I pray that this is addressed with some cool new unlocks, but again, why should you have to work so hard when playing the FOUR non-western factions just to get some cool new toys when the TWO Western factions get all new weapons from the get-go?


Well, I hope against odds that this isnt another BF: Vietnam by the EA boys in Vancouver....

I completely agree with the thread starter here. I am a big fan of BF2 but the previews and write-ups of the merits of the expansion pack are far from convincing for me. I am waiting for reviews of the expansion and will buy only if they are positive. $30 seems a bit much for new maps and some new toys and uniforms (personally I don't get excited about what uniform I'm wearing, it's all about the guns...). For about the same amount of $ you could buy F.E.A.R or Quake 4...

And no, just cause I love BF2 doesnt mean I'm buying SF.

I loved BF1942, and Road to Rome SUCKED.

You can't return games just because they suck.

Then I played Desert Combat mod all the time and laughed when people bought BF: Vietnam.

I was playing a mod that was heads and tails better than any expansion and half-measure game they released after the original.


BF2 was built upon Desert Combat and its great balance and mix of firearms and weapons. I tip my hat to the coders for adding things like guided missiles, relatively smooth netcode and the ranking system.

But as usual, EA seems to be milking the popularity of a great initial effort with lots of substandard expansions that people continue to eat up.

Cheers to the Mod Community, after playing this expac on my buddies computer for half an hour , I'm now quite sure I will be donating my $30 to them, not Dice Canada

So far, every game or expansion released by Dice Canada has had little in the way of added content, nor increased the dynamic and scope of the game.

Anyone who wants to see how new weapons should have been implemented should check out the POE-2 Weapon renders.


Here is some good news for confirming the SF weapons being used as unlocks. This might be the one reason I would buy SF; to be able to unlock the SAS and SEAL only weapons for ALL factions in original BF2...

(the medic G36E with burst and single shot looks particularily tasty)

UNLOCKS
- By playing on a Battlefield 2™: Special Forces map, you will gain the priviledge
of being able to unlock some of the Battlefield 2™: Special Forces weapons for use
in regular BF2 maps. These unlocks are considered to be tier 2 unlocks, where as
the original unlocks are considered to be tier 1. You must first have unlocked
the tier 1 weapon for a particular kit before you can access and unlock the tier 2
weapon. As an example, if you must unlock the G3A3 for the assault kit before you
can unlock the F2000 for the assault kit.
