    Re: Another Failed Expansion.....

The way I see it the expansion set is not exactly worth the amount of 30 bucks at the moment. Not saying that the game doesn’t offer anything good. The maps from what I can tell look interesting and could be maps that have a different fight each time you play them. On the other hand EA could have just released these in the normal game and cut the crap with the zip-lines and grappling hooks. Yes those new features add the new dynamic of being able to attack from different angles and getting to places faster on foot. I do think it will cause a change in game play that people can get across the map faster, get to the top of that building, and move entire squads to areas where they are needed. Night vision is a neat addition but its not something really new and never thought of before. Nor are flash bangs or tear gas. These are gonna change the game sure but how much will they really add?

The weapons however are awful. Only 4 weapons are being added to the game it seems. The SCAR looks neat and was a good choice to add. The F 2000 is really cool and looks a bit like an OICW which I would have loved to see enter the game. The RPG is a nice touch and the MP7 is a neat addition to the engineer class. That’s where the additions end from what I have seen. The other new additions is just the G36 redone several times. I mean come on the G36K, G36E, MG36!1!11!! Come on guys the gangs all here. What next the G36Z sniper rifle the G36R anti tank weapon. The rest of the guns are just taken from the MEC from what I hear which is just laziness on EA’s part. I like the G36 weapon, it’s a nice gun and my favorite so far… but come on EA people want variety some sort of variety at the very least. Counter strike has a bunch of guns you could have ripped off and skinned in a special forces get up. There are plenty of modified versions of weapons such as the Ak-47 (Take the AK-101 for example) that could have been used.

The new vehicles are a nice touch but there is lacking polish here. For one thing the Hind can carry troops in its middle section that’s why the Russians like the copter. You could have given the hind 2 passenger seats in order to deploy troops as well and just nerf the hinds damage or speed a bit to compensate. Also where is rope down from copters? This would have been the perfect time to add this to the game. I was hoping it would be included in bf2 because of the new engine and all. And its possible cause then zip-line and grappling hook would not be possible now would it? Sure people will still para out of copters, but rope down would be very useful for flying low and you cant deploy para yet due to height and maybe the area is to rough to land on.

The expansion could have had a lot more stuff added to it and so far ill have to see what its offering after it is released

While the concept of night vision and zip lines is a neat feature, I can not see how they can justify it as THE key element to make people want this game.

Sure the SAS and USN Seals get some nice cool weapons, but the FOUR OTHER FACTIONS ALL GET THE SAME MEC WEAPONS FROM BF2!!!!

Cool infantry weapons was what I thought was going to be a major part of this expansion. Yes, I see some nice infantry oriented maps, but what about the guns?!

The Russians alone have produced some very innovative designs as of late; what about the VSS Vintorez from Desert Combat?

Almost any weapons manufactured in any country could have been included for the Rebel and Insurgent factions; doesnt take much imagination to consider that they could smuggle these weapons in, supplied by wealthy, foreign sympathizers.

Again, we see favouritism towards the western forces that was apparent in the map balance issues of the original BF2.

Why would I want to play as anyone other than SAS or Seals?! What new and exciting things are there for the Spetnaz, MEC, Insurgent and Rebel forces?!

        Nothing.

There are excellent BF2 maps coming out from the modding community, AND THEY ARE FREE.

Yes, I can already see players moaning they were autoswitched to the team that didn't have the nice shiney new weapons.

Why pay $40 for an expansion that give you so little in return?

I pray that this is addressed with some cool new unlocks, but again, why should you have to work so hard when playing the FOUR non-western factions just to get some cool new toys when the TWO Western factions get all new weapons from the get-go?

Well, I hope against odds that this isnt another BF: Vietnam by the EA boys in Vancouver....

Let me know what you guys think.

        ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few examples of guns that COULD have made it into the game...

        Assault Rifles:

        Spec Ops Rifles

        Sniper Rifles

        Machine Guns

I bet you'll still buy it. I think you'll buy and not say anything. Of course you would not like to be called a hypocrite. Nobody has to know. So enjoy it like everyone else will whenever it is you get it.

          ================================================== ==============

This was my biggest pet peeve of this game. There still arent any good mods ready.

There were endless varieties of guns that could've spiced up this game. As it stands, we have more infantry weapon choices for the three orginal factions than the 6 factions in Special Ops.

Yes I'm sure it will be fun to try the new levels and gimicks, but i thinks we'll be shelling out more money for another expansion soon to get more weapons....which should have been in this one.

I don't like the standard MEC weapons, I never use them. So finding out that the four other factions used them ****ed me off and was why I posted my rant.

Now, I'll take those 7 new weapons and add them to my list or available unlocks in vanilla BF2

Hightower, I most likely buy this game tommorrow. I knew this before I wrote my original post. I wanted to hear if others were also somewhat disappointed at the lack of new OPFOR content. I like the idea of using most of the the new weapons as unlocks that are available to EVERYONE on the original maps, not just SAS and SEALS. When it was confirmed in the readme files of people who now have the game, I stopped sitting on the fence.

Most people are looking forward to the playing as SAS/SEAL, new maps, zip lines and vehicles.

I'm most happy about using the Medic class with a G-36 E any time I want, and throwing flashbangs at flag capping choppers in the original maps.

Yes, to a greater of lesser degree, now that people have the game, almost everyone is happy. I've answered your post, so let's leave this thread to rest in peace.

            Re: Another Failed Expansion.....

Although I doubt any of you would even have realized it, BF2 as a whole is becoming less and less popular, is being played by less and less people and generally, I believe DICE is probably going to lose money on this one. When BF2 first came out you'd be lucky to find 50 people playing BF1942. Now, you go to play BF42 online, there are thousands playing.

BF2 IMO is a failure from the getgo. The only thing DICE managed to do was basically dupe fans of BF42 and BFV into buying the next-gen BF series game. Most found it to be utter **** and threw it away. Personally, I will not pay DICE or EA $50 for this expansion. I do not think they have earned it. I'm still waiting on my refund for vanilla BF2.

When it boils down to it, all DICE has done with BF2 is first, release a half-finished game that was buggy as hell, was missing half of its features and was generally a piece of crap game. Then, they managed to hash together a couple of patches which really did nothing other than add a feature or two (like Favorites, IP joining, etc) and make the game atleast partially self-sustaining -- albeit causing a massive memory leak problem in the process -- but otherwise, absolutely nothing has been done. Instead, they have been concentrating on the Expansion, which IMO is basically a patch they want everybody to pay for, because it includes a lot of the things they planned on doing for vanilla BF2. Not to mention the entire time they've been working on it, they've been utterly ignoring the community and their opinions and feedback on the first game they released.

Maybe now, with the Expansion behind them, DICE will finally get off their asses and do something worthwhile as opposed to simply doing something for more money. Then again, maybe not. Time will tell if they'll start another expansion or finally fix the ****ing game that is trash to begin with.
