Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

Wow for godsakes guys its a game. If they tried to make it any close to realistic obviosuly this would not be in the game. Jsut like parachuting down from a 2 story building(impossible). If it seems to be killing you 9 times out of 10 than use it. It's in the game and chances are they arent going to fix it so why no use it. And no I'm not one of the people that do this and I havent seen this happen alot. If a whole server does it than join another. Common sense.

Just a quick blurb about this technique: diving down in the prone position is a valid and widely used tactic by armed forces.

If you watch any modern documentary about infantry armed forces, especially those regarding open terrain combat, you will see squads and platoons moving in intervals and incorporating the prone position. Now for some definitions before people start getting confused.

Open Terrain Combat - not urban combat. This is open terrain where vehicles can roam about with little to no obstruction. This lack of obstructions also means lack of cover. If you have no cover, then you have to resort to something else to make you less of an open target, such as lying prone to reduce your cross-sectional area to the target.

Squads and Platoons - to save us all a headache, it's just a bunch of guys moving together on the same team.

Intervals - this is where a group plays leapfrog when moving to a site. One guy moves up a certain distance from the group, preferably with cover or lying prone, then plants and watches a specific direction. Once he is situated, the at the rear of the group moves up ahead of him and does the same thing. This continues until the whole group has leapfrogged to the site with full cover during travel. In BF2, the action is faster paced, but it's still a valid and smart tactic.

"So why the whole thread about it?"

We've seen a number of players complain both in boards and in-game about "so-and-so is a diving prick!" This is usually because the guy that dives prone first during a face-to-face fight survives. (And who knew that the one that stood straight up and spraying away would die first?)

In realistic combat, survival is your first priority. If you survive an attack, you get another chance to make sure the enemy doesn't survive the next one. So, if you reduce your profile (aka, cross-sectional area) you are a harder target to hit. If you have been owned by a dolphin-diving, prone-rolling noob, the fact is that you are actually the noob. I suggest practicing this tactic, whether advancing on targets, lurking about in terrain, or hiding from enemies on your tail. The only one who will see you easier from this is someone who can see from above--like the enemy commander. You can reduce his chances of seeing you if you also have cover above you, like a tree or roof.

From now on, if someone complains that some guy went prone and owned him, link that thread/post to this one.
i don't think anyone has a problem with going prone. its the people who go prone, jump, go prone in mid air, land prone, jump, prone, etc...

That's already been discussed. Yes, it's unrealistic, looks stupid, and makes for a diffcult target to hit. But that's why we have grenades. :)

It's a game. You don't respawn in real life, you can't jump into a passing plane or heli in RL, there's several things you can do in a GAME that you can't in real life. As far as bunnyhopping/dolphin diving, yea it looks stupid, but the point of playing a game is to win, and if you are getting beat by it, than they are playing the game right. Watch some of the tournement players, they play to win and it's a BH/DD, grenade/203/C4 spamming love fest.

Remember it is a GAME, if you want RL join the Army/Marines and volunteer for Iraq, no miscoded "exploits" there.

Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

I prone jump but only when I am being sniped at, or a tank/apc is trying to kill me, as for going prone to shoot someone, everytime, but i jump first then go prone and land on the ground and shoot them, I don't get up again. Only time I go jump, prone, jump, prone, is when I am being sniped or a tank/apc is shooting at me. I only do this because the tank/apc has a huge advantage over me, and most of the time this tactic doesn't work.

As for dolphon diving or prone jumping whatever you want to call it, the best way to beat them is to be support, assualt or spec-ops. With support you just go prone and spray it at them, they will get killed, the only other problem is other enemys have a good shot at you as you lay there. Assualt is the best because you just have to noob tube like you normally do and they are then owned. Spec-ops as people call this cheating/unrealistic aswell but you could throw C4 at them and kill them. It can be done in real life but C4 in real life makes a bigger bang and has a way bigger blast radius (for the same amount of C4 that you use in game) causing you to also get blown away.

Funny, only does the lucky one get me that does this "Dolphin Diving" Stuff. I just Crouch, so either the foe is shooting where my head used to be or where he thought my head was going to be (My Feet) and I plug him in the head. I'm glad when people go prone, your mobility factor just went to zilch and I can manuever around a corner or jump over a wall to escape you.

you know why people do it? its an exploit that makes you harder to hit because the hit box gets all ****ed up when you do it.

its the same thing that happened in sof2. people learned that if you leaned you were harder to hit because it screwed up the hit box. so shortly after they found that out, everyone was using lean scripts. same thing in bf2.

learn to play without exploiting the game.

Way to go, DICE. Way to go. Allowing this crap has once again put you at the top of the "how to screw up the FPS genre" chart.

Wow... Can you not shoot (or at least shoot well) while you're doing that? I had someone do that against me in-game ONCE.. I was really confused, cause he wasn't shooting back, but eventually I killed him.

He has good accuracy when on the ground, so he can fire between jumps.
