Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

Let's see you fall off a roof with all that gear and NOT go to the hospital.

    See my point?

    It's a Game!!

(Maybe if it's big and red, people will notice that minor point.)

Real troops DO train to dive hella fast. Maybe not from the hights that they do in the game but there are much more unrealistic aspects in it that people don't kavetch about.

Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

You might think you are right by lecturing us about real life tactics and battlefield 2, but you are wrong (surprise). In real life people cant hit the deck as fast as they can in BF2, nor can they accurately fire like they can in BF2.
I think I'm right by all the right people backing me on this. The reason I'm lecturing about real life tactics in a video game that is supposed to simulate (if not mock) real life combat is because those tactics work in both scenarios.

And if you think that bullets or shells (remember: they're flying slugs of metal that give you something worse than a scrape on the elbow) flying at you won't make you dive to the floor like a rock with lovehandles, I'm curious to see your survival probability. If you are taking the time to say "gee, I don't want to dive down and get my shirt dirty or scrape my palms", then proceed to take a knee, place one hand down, then the next, I have news for you. You were dead and distributed in 3 directions behind you the moment you said "gee".

Saureco I was reading the first page of this post and was agreeing with some of what you send...but your second was all caps, making it so all credibility you had is now gone......there is never a reason to caps lock since only 7 year old retards do it........Although I do agree those first posts were just stupid

On another note, who cares about diving, people will do anything to live whether it hurts or not. Its a game, deal with it or go play another cause EA aint changng jack.

No, BF1942 had diving into the prone position correctly. When you went prone, your character would look like his feet got pulled out from under him and he landed on his belly. You couldn't go prone mid-jump. If you went prone, you couldn't stand or jump right back up instantly. You had to wait a small amount of time before you can do anything else besides shoot.

What we have in BF2 is jumping 10 feet into the air while going prone 5 times before hitting the ground and repeating the sequence. Borderline retardness.

THe PROBLEM is that you can be PERFECTLY accurate when diving thru the air. NO movement left and right and when you dive roll form side to side your view stays PERFECTLY straight its tottaly unrealistic they dive and are hard to hit yet they can aim straight without it moving and shoot you in the face.

Simply put fellas, i got absolutely no worries with the fact you can jump prone jump prone etc, or dive and roll, or bunny hop or float 30m up in the air on lavender scented farts.... i think its hilarious when you blow the crap out of them in midair and they go tumbling backwards. What i dont like about it is as other people have stated already, that you're able to maintain perfect accuracy whilst doing this. Myself, i play with a little bit of realistic rules, i wont shoot while im jumping or doing any of the above - i admit sometimes i do do these things, mainly if im running away from a tank or jeep, although its more a 'try anything to evade' technique than deliberate.

              cheers,

No surprise here, ive seen plenty combat footage.. In wich i see people dropping to their knees, to then lean forward and drop on their chest. Diving down might be possible, but not without moving your arms infront of you to break the fall.. afer which one has to put the gun back into firing position.

In bf2 one can just go prone without even having to stop looking down their sights.. stance changing should take ALOT of accuracy away from the players.

i just read the first page of this thread, too much to read. anyways, guys, this is JUST a video game. stop saying something like "have u seen a soldier blah blah blah doing something like those in BF2?"

no matter if it can be done in real life or not, who cares? bf2 is just a game.

How do you account for remaining prone while jumping? Oh, you've studied the Amazing Prone Jumping People of Zambia. Of course.

Problem I have with this is (not talking about from 5 feet, from running or standing)

You drop to fast or you "roll to others but not on your screen

You dont have to recover AT ALL and fire with better accuracy then the man that didnt just get done hitting the ground

I can understand you being able to aim down range pretty fast but its not automatic perfect shots in reality

Dont even get me started on the rolling thing

Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

The depiction of proning in BF2 is far from realistic. IRL, throwing yourself to the ground like people do in BF2 would 1) probably knock the wind out of you and 2) throw off your aim long enough for an enemy to shoot you.

Insta-proning (my main gripe with "abuses" of proning) wasn't a problem in BFV because going prone on any sloped terrain (basically anything other than a road or building) caused your crosshair to jump sporatically in a direction about one second after proning. In BF2, insta-proning has no apparent drawbacks (aside from you not moving), so we see a lot more of it.

Although it bugs me, I can just throw/launch a grenade at them, which will either kill them or blur their vision.

So I'm totally rebuffed because I chose a writing style that emphasizes focus and attention to a point? I am invalidated from a completely logical argument because you have a preference and generalization to capitalized letters?

I think this kid missed his meds. We need 20cc's of 9mm ammo to his neck, stat!

Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

I definitely agree that the diving prone is a legit move and I've argued that before in another thread on here using the same logic you do. That being, soldiers actually do it in real life to take cover in a hurry.

The thing that bothers the hell out of me, and I've been seeing this more and more (mostly from clan players...arguably (but not always) the most annoying gormless gnits in the game), is this....Jumping up and going prone then coming out of prone before you hit the ground and immediately jumping and going prone in the air again, repeat until someone is ready to beat you with a stick. It is the absolutely most gay maneuver you could do. Clan =GSF= seems to like this little man(gay)euver a lot. I was on a server the other night (I guess it was the GSF clan server I noticed later) which had a few of the clans' players on and ALL of them were doing this super dorky move everytime they were confronted at closer range. I think it would take far more skill to NOT do that and survive a battle. If I recall, it didnt really keep from killing them though. Just a plain ol' stupid move that makes the other player say 'WTF' more than save your hide.

Re: Diving prone: it's a legit action

I have just read through this thread and I am still not sure what is going on here... The orginial poster started by defeating diving into the prone position and shooting at the enemy is valid. Well, without meanto to be insulting, du'h!!

And the response appears to be that people believe the orginial paster is trying to defend the actions of those whom move across the street like a porpoise alternating jumping with going prone at an entirely unrealistic rate (I know this is a game, but it does have some pretensions to realisim). For many, including myself, this looks rediculous and somewhat spoils the effect of the game. Important note is that the original poster is not defending this activity, he/she is simply defending the fact the people can go prone and shott a little more accurately than those who can't...

(Of course the reality is that this is actually a totally ineffective tactic and is easy to counter by shooting/blowing up the offender and dancing on his corpse... )

All the above is fair enough but I fail to see why the two points are in the same thread and where this arguement came from!?!?
