Why can we jump in this game?

Now, let me get one thing clear, I hate bunnyhoppers with a passion bordering upon madness. An impartial observer I am not.
But why do we have jumping at all in this game? Are there areas impossible to reach by keeping ones feet on the ground?

When a tank is firing its MG at you and there is a concrete barrier next to you, are you going to run around it? If a tank is anywhere near you, you are going to run toward the wall and dive over the damn thing and pray that the MG's cone of fire has spared you.

... First of all, If your complaining that its pointless being able to jump if its not high enough, well then you try jumping a meter into the air with a 100lb of equipment on your back.

Second, We can jump because some places are accessible by jumping... We need to jump over small walls or whatever it is to aviod a tank hitting you.
If this was the case that you couldnt jump, then wheres the sence in having to run around the small 3ft wall to get around it...

Third, It helps increase how far grenades are thrown... or how high..

LOL, the last game I played that you couldn't jump is Doom 2. I don't want to go back to that.

To which I would respond: A CLIMB function would make more sense, either automatic or otherwise, whereupon a player could scramble over the aforementioned barrier if he were adjacent to it, but a player in open space couldn't hoike his legs up beneath his arse and bounce about with gay abandon.

Jumping is totally valid if real life people jump over things (as was mentioned), so why not in the game?

If they want to reduce the bunny hopping issue they need to do the following..

a) No shooting while jumping
b) Can't jump when out of stamina (1 jump takes 1/2 of the stamina you have, but running takes less then it does now to balance that)

This would fix almost every issue with bunnyhopping

You probably wont find many soldiers that will tell you they climbed over some cover to get out of a tanks line of fire ... The ones that jumped / dove over for cover would probably be the only ones alive.

And if you stand and "take it like a man" so to speek instead of trying to dodge the enemy fire no matter how gay it looks your S T U P I D

Jumping is very much necessary and we don't need it erased from the game.

I do agree though that you should lose more stamina or be grounded after 2 consecutive jumps

I do agree that the jumping system is bent, being that you can DODGE bullets by jumping, imo, you can jump too high in BF2. Instead of allowing you to jump while not having stamina, you should only be able to jump if you have stamina. Jumping is one thing, diving for cover is another. How many soldiers have you seen that jump to dodge bullets in a firefight? None. Well, maybe in the future when FPS kids join up in the military. FPS Doug anyone? "The Army is just like an FPS, but with better graphics!" "But I hear there isn't respawn in RL"

a jumping "refresh" meter would be fine too, like reloading. Even if it was 1 second that would be enough

Instead of allowing you to jump while not having stamina, you should only be able to jump if you have stamina.

Yeah, I never got how you could still jump with no stamina. No game with a stamina bar that I've played ever let you jump with it depleted.

I'd like a seperate "Jump Meter" instead of just lumping it in with the stamina bar. It also would have made more sense if they could have made it so you didn't jump as high, but could climb. To whoever said that you never see a soldier climb over an obsticle to get out of the line of fire... that's just crazy. Of course they do. Unless the obsticle happens to be a three-four foot fence which they can jump, they will have to climb over it if there's no other cover.
