    Re: Structural Damage: Air Bases

OK, having seen the Jet Landing video I am convinced this is a great idea.

they didnt show up on the webpages for me either. I downloaded the actual videos, and saved them on my harddrive, watched them locally, they are perfectly fine, except for a little error at the end of one of the videos, could be compression problems, but no big deal.

One easy way that this could be helped is if they put the hangers off to the side of the runway like normal airports. Not saying the planes need to spawn in the hangers, they would pretty much just be out there for decoration.

Its not like the hangers are providing protection for the planes so they do not get blown up before take off. Even the people new to bombing can get rid of a plane in a hanger.

Sorry about the video quality on the landing videos. It is the first time I ever captured video, let alone tried to compress it. If I was not worried about my connection at home being swamped with downloads while I was gaming, I would have posted them for download on my ftp server at a better quality.

I just could not find a site that would host the larger files for free - quickly. Did not want to spend too long looking for a hosting site, or having to sign up for a bunch of crap.

Just a quick point. Won't this make jet spawn camping a base a lot more appealing than it already is? One side's planes will just keep bombing the airport & nothing could touch them. Unless it has to be blown up by c4 only?

I think it's an awesome idea. Gives engineers a chance for more repairs & makes base defence a little bit higher priority. Give air strips 3 parts, but maybe not destroyable by planes.

If you wonna see perfect landing go here
Landing a jet is very easy in BF2.

what I would like to see is destructible runways that slow down repair/re-arming about 70% when destroyed.

Take the hangers out completly then watch the plane campers flee for shelter when the artillery rains down on them. Hanger = plane camper shelter.

Wake island doesn't have hangers and the campers get mowed down all the time. Like a turkey shoot

Finally...who's gonna package this thread up and deliver it to DICE/EA

                  Re: Structural Damage: Air Bases

I think there is a misconception about SpecOps and sabotage. They only seem like the only method of destroying stuff (bridges, assets, etc) because they are the most efficient at doing so. Dropping 5 C4 charges and detonating them takes a total of 6 seconds--way faster than it takes for anything short of a bomber jet. Anything can destroy a bridge or asset (except for your knife), but it just takes longer.

I don't know if many of you recall, but in BFV they had it so that the engineers had explosives to destroy the enemy's control towers at airfields. With the towers down, no jets would spawn. I know there has been talk about "what if we moved the hangars" and "what about jet camping", but here is where we can explain.

                  1. Don't move the hangars or reconfig the runway. That would require making a new map entirely, which chews up way too much time.

                  2. Simply code the runway with a layer of broken road/bridge brushes when it's destroyed. On the map, the runway will have the bridge icon over it, indicating that it's a destroyable structure. SpecOps and bombers will be the weapons of choice to disrupt the enemy's takeoff and landing capabilities. That, in turn, makes engineers at the airfield an badly needed asset.

                  3. Don't break up the runway into too many bits, such as thirds. Just make the weakest part the middle. Any jet, other than the F-35, cannot takeoff without enough smoothe runway. If you make pockets in the middle, the front landing gear will slam into the pothole, either damaging or destroying the jet.

                  4. Camping for jets will not become a good idea as bombers, artillery, and infantry will frequent your airfield to disrupt its functions. A bunch of guys hanging around the runway and hangar are just asking to get carpet bombed. It will simply boil down to "if you didn't get the jet, get the hell away from the airfield".

This is a badly needed addition. Not that it can't be done, but it can only be done by a mod team. EA/DICE won't add any more content, and you know that if they did, they'd only screw up the game even more.

I still can't see those videos on that website, but I can hear the audio. I'll just take your word for it that you can land over the hangar.

uh, didnt read the whole thread, but don't we have some BF-V vets in here :)

Blowing up the control tower was a standard thing in BF-V, this is old news.
