Has anyone seen this happen or can verify this AND if it can work for the transport choppers?
it seems perfectly feasable since ramming your rotors into anything is an instant death.

and when is the last time a pilots "rammed" as a tactic in the course of a real war? the japanese - why? because they were running out of "good" pilots who had bridged the skill gap with real ability. the americans, through better technology and sheer manpower, forced the kamakazie tactic to surface.

in this game, imo, anyone who rams is taking the cheap way out. just because its in the game doesn't mean its a justified "creative tactic." perhaps a player's comfort zone precludes him to unreal or other fps games and he or she should just move on? i don't know. to legitimize these tactics as answers for someone who doesn't take the time to make the effort and get the skills is to cheapen the game for everyone who does.
Well, they are valid tactics in that they achieve a certain goal and can be executed by players. They may not be subjectively "fair game" for you personally, though.

Whether or not you consider the tactics themselves to be cheap or not, I think it's fair to say that the truly skilled players can counter all threats, lame or otherwise. I would posit that a pilot who cannot avoid being rammed still has some learning to do.

I think that the reason most players get frustrated with "cheap tactics" is because they debunk that player's self-assurance that they are skilled. It would be rather annoying, if I were a good pilot and convinced of my goodness, to be summarily smoked by someone with less skill using a pedestrian tactic.

Just consider it an opportunity for improvement - wouldn't you feel good knowing that your skill can outclass even the cheapest tactics on the battlefield?

        Mhm.

That's why I got banned from multiple servers for "whoring the sniper rifle". My score was at the top of the list, pretty good teamwork score (cant expect the best from a sniper). I was accused of cheating. Another server banned me for not being "useful to the team", yet, I captured the first 2 flags on Karkand on my own.

Every single one of these rules you people create can always be a simple mistake. If someone accidentally rams someone else 6 times in a row and says sorry -- they'll be kicked anyway.

If someone gets really lucky 10 times in a row with amazing headshots with the sniper rifle. They'll be kicked for cheating.

If someone consistently kills the same guy (luckily being the clan admin) because their tactics force them to always run into each other, he'll be kicked for whoring (whether it be tank, apc, grenade launcher, or even grenade).

The list goes and on and on. You can't let the masses police themselves. It's one thing of someone says on a server "Take flags in order.". That obviously means you need to take the flags in the order that they are on the map (stupid rule, but still a valid one for those that like it).

But, when someone says "no bunny hopping" or "no vehicles whoring"... they dont know exactly what that is. How many jumps is bunny hopping? How long do you have to be in a vehicle to "whore"? It's all up to the admin.. and if the admin is having a ****ty day and wants some vengeance at the expense of some innocent player -- they will kick them for jumping two times.

Like that one time I was on a TS server with some clan and they banned me for bunny hopping after I jumped over the guy one time and got a lucky shot to his face with my rifle (unzoomed).

The funny part about that situation was I told him in teamspeak:

"Dude why did you ban me?"
        "You were freaking bunny hopping!"
"WHAT?! Are you serious?! I jumped ONCE! Is jumping once hopping?"
"********, you jumped about 5 times".

That wasnt exactly how it went, but that sums it up quite nicely. We were both yelling at each other, but I know how many times I jumped. And I know he was flat out lying. So I dont go there anymore.. but still, it ruined a night of gaming for me and one night of gaming for me is a big deal.

All these made up rules remind of kindergarden. Oh well.. as long as people follow the made up rules they will exist I guess.. and no arguing of mine will change that. Just had to vent, sorry if I offended

actually they didn't kamikazi at pearl harbor, but I'm just beeing nitpickey.

Anyway, I definatly kamikazi if an enemy heli is about to take over our main base. Thats it. So I kamikazi in dragon vally as chinese if a heli will overtake our main, I do it in kubra, in sharqui peninsula. Although it is rare, I have perfected flying at 400 mph, so I can easly take most heli's out with my guns and missles. But still if that fails then i do kamikazi.

                Re: Kamikaze: legitimate tactic

To outlaw plane - plane ramming is just lame. It is outlawing a tactic just because the 'other side' has no answer to it. If you get rammed your pilot skills obviously need improving. Having said that, I dont fly much because I am lousy at it. However, one time at Sharqi my team was being ripped to shreds by an enemy helicopter. To my amazement my teams heli was just sitting there, nobody seemed to be wanting to fly or gun. I hopped in and took off trying to kill the other heli, I ended up ramming him twice. Some might call it lame but it was effective and the only option since nobody was interested in taking him out.

I avoid using this kind of explanation a) because its a poor excuse for an argument b) in this case anyone who can fly a plane in BF2 is defintaly not a "n00b" its not the easiest fps to fly aircraft/choppers.

I think I was flying a cobra and I was rammed twice by an enemy pilot. First time was maybe a mistake but second come on NOOB!

If a pilot is truly excellent, isn't it safe to assume that he can avoid being rammed? Quite honestly, if an enemy gets close enough to ram you, he out-maneuvered you.

If i remember correctly, you also saved our asses in Mashtuur City.
There was a fully loaded Blackhawk hovering around the Mosque, im standing directly underneath it, and i see a MEC chopper dive bomb the blackhawk. I must say the other team was disappointed, but it definately helped us win that match. (And it was cool as hell to watch too)

                              Yea, I'm a smacktard. Right.

The bottom line is that most pilots get ****ed because ramming violates their safety bubble, and in a way that their perceived skill cannot account for, other than to call the offender a "n00b".

The only smacktard here is the one that cannot accept being killed by someone with access to and a willingness to use certain tactics.

Ultimately, every single tactic that falls outside of the bell curve can be misconstrued as cheap, if the victim feels a strong enough need to justify their own death as anything other than their own failure to stay alive.
