Re: Chopper Pilot's Guide to being a GREAT gunner

What blows my mind is how long it took, after reading many threads like these, to learn that to adjust the mouse sensitivity for the TV missile, you have to go into land vehicles (not helicopter). I had my helicopter sensitivity down to 1.0 (very sluggish for piloting) but it still wasn't improving my TVGM aim. Now I've got it punched way back up (for piloting), and my land veh sensitivity, which was way up so I could whirl the tank turret around, is back down again, and my accuracy with the TVGM is through the roof. Took all these new settings out for a spin last night and proceeded to have my worst BF2 night in a long time -- I've never been TK'd so much on so many servers, half the time by whores looking to solo, who didn't care about whether I could shoot or not. Ah well, and old issue, I know. Class is a little more than putting a napkin in your lap in a restaurant, but I guess you can't blame someone for that -- you learn class or the lack thereof from your parents.

Re: Chopper Pilot's Guide to being a GREAT gunner

Thank you so much for all this great and helpful information. I have rarely been in a chopper online yet, as I really don't want to be that monkey playing with his banana in the gunner's seat, instead of doing a propfer job. I do some practising with SP maps, and this guide helps a lot so that I can soon become a gunner online as well.

I wish I could fine a good pilot. It's impossible to fly the chopper when your gunner jumps out as soon as you get near land, near a flag, near a plane, or you get the missile warning (I'll dodge it...).

        Well written article. Thanks.

Strega I wish more pilots used these very skills and teamwork that you have
have noted (good stuff, by the way). Way too many wannabe helo pilots
are too quick to blame and trash talk their gunners for lack of effectiveness,
when they don't take the time to set up the shot or god forbid, miss the
shot. There is a very small viewing angle for gunners that some pilots
forget about ( we can't see everything in tv mode vs. reg mode. Had a guy
who I won't mention trash talk about how did I get to my rank since I suck
at gunning so bad then shoots me repeatedly so I could not enter helo.
Give a gunner a good shot and steady platform and the target is toast.
Thanks again for the guide as it hopefully might reach some of those
          wannabe helo pilots.

Gunning is something I do very well, I took out an enamy chopper at 400m (not luck, just skills)

Dislike how elitist pilots have made some gunners scared of even shooting, or too timid about being gunners to practice. I certainly understand you need to practice in single-player to get the basic skills, but SP can't touch multiplayer experience. What good is it doing helping gunner's gain experience, if you TK them after they miss one or two shots, and scare them out of the chopper? You might have just intimidated away one of the best gunners to-be, who just had a shaky start.

It's partly your fault if he misses, anyhow. If you're doing your job as pilot, the gunner could be blind as a bat, and still get the kill because you practically placed the TV crosshairs on the target for him.

this is a good guide, thanks for sharing ~~~

However it seems like a lot of players going gunner seat(doesn't mean always noobies) that don't know how to use the TV missile which really annoys me because it is the most effective against enemy choppers...

Oh, cmon, I know exactly where the TV missile crosshairs are on each chopper (slightly below cockpit crosshair for USMC and PLA, halfway between cockpit crosshair and gunner 'view box' for MEC)

If the gunner misses, either it was a difficult shot (ie. swerving chopper or fast moving light jeep) or they just suck or are having a bad day... :hmm:

Hm, I give the gunner 3 chances. If he/she attempts to dismantle a tank with the auto-gun, I fly away, land, and explain to my gunner that there's a TV missile on the helo, and a brief instruction on how to use it. The second time he tries to tickle the tank with the gun AGAIN, I do the same, and ask him/her if they heard me the first time; even if they did, I explain again, and try it again. The third time they forget the helo has a TV missile? I land, and tell them to piss off.

Other than that- I wish ALL players got used to spotting enemy units, INCLUDING gunners. The pilot should only spot if he/she wants the gunner to destroy it- especially heavy vehicles using TV missile; after all, the pilot needs to line the helo up with the target to TV missile it anyway.

Missiles were so fun to use before they nerfed the range on them. Firing into the abyss!

Sure was fun taking long range tv guides , till they nerfed it like you said. but oh well.
