We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
Hello, I see allot of programmers and designers in these forums, so it's probably an appropriate place to ask this question.
I'm a designer myself, but nothing to do with games (industrial design, CNC) and it's amazing how much progress has been made in 3D drawing, designing and programming in just 5-6 years.
Please make an educated guess or prediction how do you see gaming in the near future. What is realistically possible. How would we play Battlefield 2020 for example. And I'm not only talking about power-speed of the computers, but the game it self.
I think the game itself will have totally destructive environments. All the way down to the smallest rock. If you fire a tank into the side of the building long enough, yes the entire building will collapse. If a jet releases its bombs, then yes it will leave a 20 ft. crater in the ground. Bullets will pierce threw wooden doors and leave bullet marks on the other side of the wall.
I think most games with war simulation will have a rating of "NR" for not rated or "NC-17" restricting game sells to anyone under 17 for war games.
I think some war missions with BF:2020 will have biological warfare. If you don't have a Bio Suite then you gag and die within a few minutes.
I predict medics will need to go through maybe a 'training program' to know which meds to give a which time and what dosage. Sounds weird but hey.. this is 2020 right?
I predict that assault, pilots, and tank commanders will need to go through a field training (kinda like AA) but more intense, then go out and play.
honestly nobody knows wtf wil be up in 15 or 20 years, possibly there wil be nobody on the Face of this Planet anymore or we'll be playing Games with things that don't even look like a today's Computer.....
Oh you're a ray of sunshine....
I never said I wanted to see Perfect realism....I don't want blood...we'll too much...nor do I want to hear some guy begging and pleading for his life.....I do enough of that with my wife.
I want realistic gameplay rather....realistic environments and real-like characters...otherwise I'll go back to Double Dragon. (google it).

^^ Double Dragon. That game rocked for Commador 64. I must have put hundreds of hours into that game.
Technology will microsize to allow for light weight visual headsets. No more monitor, the game will be fed to you via a goggle system. Each eye would be off set to make it seem like true 3d.
Interactive moviegames will become popular.
Overall, I dont think there will be too much improvement. Multiplayer will take off. And Gaming will be come more popular then television. We will see a lot more in game advertisement. Broadband will be standard. And I could see something like Serial Games. Sort of like TV shows that come every week. Sort of like Guildwar on steroids where a new expansion come out monthly or so. I especially see it in a sort of interactive television show, were the audience decides which way the story will go.
Battlefield 2020. I could see it having servers with 500 to 1000 players, True city size maps. Many objectives, with larger in game consequences. Continues play with day/night transition. Better, ingame physics including ricochet, and a totally destroyable enviroment.
A random map generator system. Imagine the Diablo I or CoH style of random map building for and FPS system that was large, and yet more or less fair, that would allow for a unique gaming experience every time, even in multiplay. No more camping the correct spot or knowing the best sniper location. Scouting would actually mean 'scouting'.
can anybody honestly say the first thing they thought of when they saw a holodeck in star trek for the first time wasnt how great it would be for porn?
I hope in the future you could actually buy games that WORK WITH NO PATCHES NEEDED!!!
But that aside I would hope that there would be games that doesn't just look good. The current trend seems to be more and more fps's with better graphics than the previous, no story needed. It would be fun once in a while to see a GOOD game where the plot isn't shoot/slash/blowup everything that moves and doesn't move.
Does any1 understand what I mean or am I just raving?

unfortunately i cant see this coming to fruition - extensive testing has been done with close focus technology and they all resulted in sight impairment of some kind in extended users (even early onset cataracts lol).
they would either have to be freakin huge or a new projection system that dosn't require the eye focusing on the image - somone said scanning directly onto the retina? this is probably best however serious questions have been raised on the psychological (!!!??) effect this may have on long term users...
you guys are forgetting something - the visual part of VR is a microcosm of all the factors involved... the control system is alot harder to work out...
