  • Gaming 15-20 years from now.

Hello, I see allot of programmers and designers in these forums, so it's probably an appropriate place to ask this question.
I'm a designer myself, but nothing to do with games (industrial design, CNC) and it's amazing how much progress has been made in 3D drawing, designing and programming in just 5-6 years.
Please make an educated guess or prediction how do you see gaming in the near future. What is realistically possible. How would we play Battlefield 2020 for example. And I'm not only talking about power-speed of the computers, but the game it self.

well eventually they can't go any further as it is presently in terms of resolution etc. Cos you can only have a screen so big.

Eventauly i guess more hardware will be required because the games we play will be hologromatic or somthing.

graphics will be better , more features, better physics, .... but it will be the same as now, you have a gun and you can shoot other guys with it.

maybe some extr's will be there like some helmet on your head wit inbuild screens wich enables you to look around and have a bigger vieuwing angle.

also an extra option in games like : press here to let your wife shut up would be nice.

Matrix-style virtual reality maybe? What about holodeck like in Star Trek?

Right. Resolution wont be a problem becasue images will be written direcly onto the retina, at the very least, and will be able to cover our whole visual field, thus creating full immersion VR. Headphones or smaller implants will provide realistic sound. I think a few years later you'll be able to "feel" at least something of the enviornment around you, but that's a bit more advanced.

Alot of what you guys have mentiuoned exists already. they have VR., and they have the multi screens. So when you look to your right you actually see what is on your right. It is multi-rendering. Really cool stuff. They also have video game glasses out now.

I watched an interview with some programers from EA, and they see the graphics and hardware getting so good that you won't be able to tell if your watching a live football game or a video game. He said that's the goal they are shooting for.

I think this is around the release of Madden 2005 on G4 or whatever it was called last year.

it might end up like the video game they have in the red dwarf books 'better than life'.

THat being players would be considered a little like drug addicts on society, wandering around bumping in too things in there own virtual world completely ignorant of the fact the game there playing isn't real, and removal of said helmet would result in there death due too probes that burrow deep in too the brains

Of course there the other drug in Red Dwarf 'bliss' a drug that makes you think your god for about half a hour and has a side effect of 40 years of clinical depression

can anybody honestly say the first thing they thought of when they saw a holodeck in star trek for the first time wasnt how great it would be for porn?
