My lowest computer is a P4 1.85MHZ whit 512 mb RAM and an ATI Radeon 9600. The game work just fine. The graphics are crappy but personnaly I don't care.

i dont care if my graphics are crap. i just want smooth gameplay. and some places especially at krakand. enemy seems to see further than me.

the main road out from US base meets the krakand street. im in a tank at the intersection waiting for enemy. than out came an APC. saw me, took a shot from me, went back. can't see him already. so i waited for him to come out. but he shot me behind the thick fog.. i only can see the tracers not him.

or maybe he just simply used my name tag as a guide. lol

As a matter of fact, I do know what I'm talking about. You obiously, don't. "When you start the game from Windows"? That statement right there proves you know next to nothing about the way programs are executed. The movies ARE loaded into memory and (at least the main menu movie(s)) are kept in memory. Even if they are not being used while you play, they still remain in memory. (The intro video resources may be released after they are played, I do not know.) Next time, before you start being a smart-ass, you should try and learn a bit about the subject you are trying to "debate."

Oops. Forgot to give you some advice!

First off, I would be more worried about your RAM than your video card ATM.
BF2 takes up a LOT of RAM. 512 isn't nearly enough. It's also cheaper to upgrade your RAM than your video card.

In the mean time, there are some steps you can take.
First off, run a spyware checker. I recomend Ad-aware or Spybot search and destroy.

Next, try to make sure you have a minimum of back ground stuff running. Hit ctrl-alt-delete and sort the prosseses list by User. You should be able to close down almost everything in there without any problems. Leave explorer and wscntfy alone and if you've got any special mouse software, leave it too. Close every thing else.

Finally, make sure you aren't being ambitous with your game settings. Preformance > pertyness, yeah? Even simple things like change the voice overs to english only helps cut down on RAM use.

Oh... you should be able to pick up a joystick or mic for less than $20. Even cheap ones are usually fine.

Have a 3.0 ghz p4, 1 gb generic ram, 5700LE. Run everything at low, with AA, dynamic shadow and light off. Runs smooth as can be, usually one of the first to load and with fps around 55-65 and ping around 45. I'm perfectly satisfied using my legit graphics hack lol, even if I did upgrade, don't think there would be much eyecandy I'm missing out on to warrant changing settings to high.

This was asked already and I gave a fully reply.

Since ya missed it, yes EO saves RAM. Only half the voice overs need to be loaded into RAM. Normally both sides load (since you can hear enemy voices if you are nearby).

It has drawbacks, though. If you are in the middle of a firefight and someone goes down, you can't tell who's team he's on. They all shout "medic!".

I have a laptop with a 3ghz processor, 1 gig of ram, and a 9600 mobile. I'm able to play on all the absolute lowest settings except for viewing distance (which I put at 100%) and as long as it's smooth, the graphics don't matter :p

as i said - somone doesn't know what they are talking about...
as i said - this has nothing to do with the virtual memory being used in game...
how do i know? a - i have already done this and frap tested the crap out of it...

b - its just plain common sense - do you honestly think this game (being as much of a RAM hog as it is) would have been scripted to retain uploaded intro movies when it is scrambling for every MB it can get ingame? use your head m8. where the hell are you getting your info from?
this technique was released like 2 days after the release of BF2 and the reason was certainly not to give you an extra 200mb of RAM rofl. it was just so you could skip the intro movies... this is done for just about every game available and it does not improve performance

i get disconnected even with a low ping of 40, its not my ping I believe it my video settting, i set the view distance to 100 and i got a high ping and a lot of lag, today iset my distance to 90 and would play about half a map and get disconnected from the server, set it back to 80 and was able to play

changing your view distance will not affect your ping.... it was probably issues on the server end... it happens

I guess it could be a lot of different things, I have an AMD Athlon xp300 216 ghz, 512 meg ram a gforce fx 5200 agp8x 256 meg ram on video card, i know I probally need more ram in my computer, and probally a better video card, but right now I can play in some maps with a small amount of lag but on larger maps i usually have a lot of lag even though I have a very low ping, that make me think it all in the video card
however, after playing maybe 8 or ten maps it hanges and I get booted to the desk top
and I'm running a program called end it all whitch shuts down any programs running in background, which makes me think it is my computer not having enough ram
sometimes it just locks up:locked: and i have to hit the on off button and completly reboot

what's the specs of ur power supply?
