Thank you so much for makign this clear to all the people here. This guy is right. GRAPHICS/SPECS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH PING. Its your internet and location.

sometimes im on a low ping server (below 50) but my gameplay is VERY laggy.

the whole movement stutters.. i guess its not my fault. server side?

          Toxic.
1.First off, check for spyware and then scan for viruses.
2.Then use google and try to find a program called "tuneup utilities 2006". You can download a 30 day trial version of this. It's a great program and will pretty much get all the sh*t off your pc by doing stuff such as reg cleans.
          3. Get some damn ram :p

I followed all of these steps and I Went from 20 fps to 30-40 fps with this setup: 3200+ 2ghz
          1gig ram
          radeon 9200 128mb

If your still getting lag then I dunno check with your isp and stuff run some speed tests etc.

better have at least 1GB RAM for BF2, u still can run it on 512MB but it's slow at loading and switching programs. and you'll find, with 512MB, the system reads alot from the page files which is physically located on the harddrive. that slows down ur game too. then get a new graphics card. i'd suggest 256MB, my current video card is a crappy ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (i called it crappy cuz 9800 is one of the most problem suffered ATi cards, which personally i think is the worst). I can only use all low settings with it. however back when i had a 9600 256MB (standard, neither pro nor xt), i could run the game at all medium settings with no problems at all. That implies BF2 requires relatively lots of VRAM with high settings compared to other games.

Not sure what the market is like in your area but in the US I can get 1GB of PC2100 or PC2700 RAM for about $100 (Coast-to-Coast Memory) while a decent video card (GeForce 6600GT 128MB) costs at least $140 (Newegg) and if you want to stick with 256MB you either need a slower GPU or more money.

Yup. Changing the voice overs to english only cuts the RAM load that voices take up in half. When you've got languages enabled, it has to load the full voice sets for both sides into RAM.

Lots of people don't get this, but ANYTHING that you see, hear, can shoot, or drive takes up RAM. Any additional little feature takes up RAM. If it's in the game, it's in your RAM. Background functions and Windows also take up RAM. When you max out, your hard drive starts grinding and you'll likely see Lag (unless you've got a shlick box).

The size won't help but a FASTER hard drive may help. There is a small but noticable difference (mostly in loading speed) when I run BF2 from my 5400rpm laptop drive vs. a USB 2.0 7200rpm desktop drive on the same system. (Yes, the USB 2.0 is probably a bottleneck there.)

ping has nothing to do with your rig - it is an indicator of your connection speed.
test on singleplayer - perhaps use 64 bots mod for better indication of how it will cope with online play...

edit: oops i see several people beat me to it - still do the single test though...

yeah the ping isnt really a problem. i can go to regional servers instead of the US servers (which overwhelms the other servers in shear numbers)

Im sure everyone here said it already, NO its not. This depends on where you are located in the world.
                            I run a
                            *AMD 64 3000+ 2.1
                            1GB GeiL PC 3200RAm
                            6800GT 128mb

Game runs great on med settings, but for lag issues, thats about what server you are in. I play in west coast servers, i get 10 to 70 lag, east is 70 to 120. Aus is 200, and europe is 170.

if you are in singapore try

                              - internode
                              - gamearena

they are aussie servers but they may be just what you are looking for...

what settings are you running it on?
(or have you already said this?....)
