hehehe ive seen tht thts horrid..... hmmmmmm.....

try testing it in singleplayer - if you get it its your system if you dont its your connection.... try rebooting your hub/box/whatever

if its your system - PROPERLY REMOVE YOUR DRIVERS AND REINSTALL- use driver cleaner or something.

make sure all background processes are off
make sure all your nvidia settings are "application controlled"
    defrag (lol)
if this dosnt make the slightest difference i suggest uninstall/viruscheck/reinstall and then finally if all else fails go the all dreaded ram upgrade - 1 gig does it for me
dont get silly and go formatting anything... its not that worth it

I guess it could be a lot of different things, I have an AMD Athlon xp300 216 ghz, 512 meg ram a gforce fx 5200 agp8x 256 meg ram on video card, i know I probally need more ram in my computer, and probally a better video card, but right now I can play in some maps with a small amount of lag but on larger maps i usually have a lot of lag even though I have a very low ping, that make me think it all in the video card
however, after playing maybe 8 or ten maps it hanges and I get booted to the desk top
and I'm running a program called end it all whitch shuts down any programs running in background, which makes me think it is my computer not having enough ram
sometimes it just locks up:locked: and i have to hit the on off button and completly reboot

Here's some examples of what I go through in game:

I was waiting someone to walk around a corner, weapon poised, crouchedand crosshair on the estimated body of the enemy. I had the element of surprise. He appeared and I suddenly lagged. My crosshair suddenly "teleported" to the left and right. I shot a few rounds and I'm dead.

Another problem is flying an aircraft with lag.

Here I am, flying a jet perpendicular to the ground, happily cruising around. The next second, my graphics stalled for a sec and a message saying "There is something wrong with your connection" and when the lag recovers, I'm already on course for inevitable crash to the mountains.

Same thing goes with helicopters. Same message appeared and the next second my heli was upside down, rotor facing the ground. Oh well, kaboom.

No money for a good microphone for establishing teamwork. Can't fly and type at the same time.

No money for joystick, which is a plus to flying jets rather than mouse + keyboard combo, or pure keyboard.

With a crap spec PC, your reaction time is ALWAYS slower than the enemy.

          [/rant]

Is the only way out of this situation by buying a new graphics card?
its your connect not your machine, you machine doesn't determine your ping. I was not too long ago running a 5500 with 512 RAM and doing pretty good, barely ever a ping above 100

Another good thing to do if you have low RAM is to remove the movie files, this really helps decrease load times as well as saves you around 200MB RAM! I read this somewhere, can't remember but do this:

            1. Goto your BF2 install directory. (i.e. C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\)
            2. Navigate to the \mods\bf2\Movies\ folder in your BF2 install folder.
            3. Create a folder in the Movies directory named "Backup" (or anything).
            4. Move all the movie files into the new directory you just created.

This will remove the intro movies, as well as the main menu background movie. I have 1GB of RAM so it didn't make a big difference for me, but for those of you running BF2 with low RAM, it should help a bit (I hope).

this fix will not in anyway improve gameplay
all it does is remove intro movies so as to load the initial game faster (to login screen)
saves you 200mb ram lol what you smokin?

When the game starts it loads the movies into RAM. All the movies together are around 261MB. Therefore, if you remove the movies, you remove 261MB from being loaded. Understand now?

P.S. I don't smoke anything. I can live my life without having to drown myself in drugs to make me feel good. :P

hehehehehehe someone dosn't know what they are talking about... yes - WHEN YOU START THE GAME FROM WINDOWS YOU MUPPET... this has nothing to do with the virtual memory being used whilst you are ingame... geez dont shoot yourself in the foot...

                      P.S. maybe you should

I have a 1.8, 768 mb RAM, Fx5200 128 mb. I average around 15-25 FPS usually. Needless to say, I get very frustrated when I get killed because of something that is hardware related and not skill related.
I don't mind getting owned by someone who I can tell is a better player than myself. It drives me crazy, though, when I get killed because my computer studders down to 10-15 fps at the worst possible times.
My only solution for the FPS woes has been to play on 16 man servers or play on 32 player maps that have no airplanes and few helos. (Karkand, Mashtuur, etc..)

Time for a new video card, CPU and more RAM.
