    Re: Great Sniper Traits?

Sniper traits...hmmm...as someone that was a decent sniper in the game of Planetside and a fair one in BF2, there are a few things you should know if you intend to be a sniper.

    1) Patience
    2) Awareness of your surroundings.
    3) Patience
    4) Know the battlefield.
    5) Don't be stupid and stay in one spot to long sniping - you'll die.
    6) Cover, cover, cover - if you can blend...blend. Don't give people an obvious silhoutte on a rooftop or ridge line(some so called wannabe snipers make great targets).
    7) Patience

Yes I snipe in BF2, but only when I need to take out another sniper that thinks they are a good sniper. Most of the players that think they are good snipers that I have come across in this game suck at sniping. There are exceptions of course and those ones I always compliment when I encounter them.

Oh and snipers can do more than just kill. You are useful as a forward scout and observer - you can point out troop movements to others very easily.

A sniper in a squad can be quite useful, in my opinion, if he follows the squad around from a distance, and occasionally lies down to pick off any tank/car gunners/proning support soldiers/other snipers that stands in their way.. I find that the semi-automatic snipers can be quite deadly in that respect.

And it's nice when the other squad members actually thanks you for removing obstacles.

        Re: Great Sniper Traits?

^^^ I agree totally with shae, with the exception that i play almost completely and exclusively as a sniper. I now have more than 1100 kills with the sniper kit, to 690-odd deaths.

I find that using all of the tactics above work. sometimes if you find a particularly large number of troops going the same direction, then its handy to find a good spot to camp in the shadows and pick them off as they stroll on by. I particularly enjoy when im at an unusual high spot, and pick off an entire squad, as after the 1st shot they all run and prone, leaving you with bigger, slower targets.

Running in to a flag behind a squad, or even behind an armoured vehicle works wonders. you're able to identify targets that pop up and attempt to surprise the units ahead of you that are both at long range and are waiting to attack from behind (AT men and Spec Ops in particular).

I've also capped several hundred flags, mainly by making use of the ghille suit in the best way i can - hiding in bushes and under trees, creeping closer and closer. If i hear artillery when capping, i bug out asap, chances are if you hear it just after you get the neutralise point, you're the target! People sometimes whine about me when i cap flags, as as soon as someone spawns in the area, i'll zoom and headshot them.. i feel this is perfectly reasonable, because they have more powerful and quicker-firing weapons, and war is not meant to be giving your enemy an easier opportunity to kill you. It is different from camping a spawn to kill, because it is only for the 10 or 15 seconds it takes to get the flag.

Some people mentioned earlier that if you're providing distance cover for a squad they rarely notice how much easier a good sniper can make their life. But, again as mentioned the other team certainly does notice! I've played in games where i've had members of the enemy applauding me for my shots, moaning and crying 'cheat! aimbot!' and even gripe at other members of my team, with comments such as 'you're lucky you've got that sniper watching your back', to which the reply came 'what sniper?'

Its a very satisfying job when you can do it well :)

The "real army" does not agree with you. Even though snipers are sent out on "solo" (usually a spotter or second sniper goes along) missions, they also accompany squads as well.

In BF2 do the same. Hang back, and get thos pesky peeps that are in hard to hit places. This however proves more difficult as your reaction time and aim need to be "off the chart" in order to save your mates from certain death.

Bugs me when I'm in a nice green bush and another sniper gets in the same one. I'm like HELLO get your own bush..

Oh and you guys are crazy. A sniper is not supposed to be right next to the enemy fighting side by side with others. And if you do work in a squad to protect your squad from other snipers your squad is going to try to take out an enemy 100 meters away with their little short ranged weapons.

The best job for a sniper IMHO (40+ hours) is as a spotter/commander assistant. Snipers can be very valuable to a commander if they're in a high position. On Gulf of Oman, a sniper in the crane can seriously aid a commander. The best thing a sniper can do for a team is spot. For a squad, I think they're best at advanced recon. They can move fast and have good camo. Especially on maps like Wake Island, advance scouting/spotting can be really handy.

The sniper sucks at long distance. The G36 owns it at long distance. People said they prefer having me side by side with them, rather than taking kiddy shots from 100 meters away and hardly helping them out. If you could get a head shot from 100 meters away while the enemy is bunny hopping and running in circles when they engage your squad upclose, than go ahead and snipe like that.
