    Hmmm..... let me see,

I could snipe the MEC airbase from the oil tower and hit 1/2 , 1/3 or better unless they spawn out of sight and if I get spotted I'm dead. Maybe catch a claymore kill if someone wants to try to knife me.

There's that hopping thing too but anyway....

As SF, I could bomb the airfield in a jeep, run over a few wanna be pilots, highjack the Tank 'cause it's always there. Blow up all planes and choppers w/ Tank, shoot helpless pilot wanna-bee's w/ both. back up and blow up arty / UAV w/ C4. 3 of 4 spawnpoints are pretty much wide open - obviously I give them a 5 second courtesy run. Park near MEC crate commander dropped to fix UAV & keep tank healthy, get more C4, rinse, repeat.

Impact player and M95 don't really run well together in the same sentence.

FYI, the M95 was my second unlock.

    IMO of course.

Well I usualy like to ask every squad on my team if they need a sniper and no one replys which tics me of, not even a no sorry

1.Provide cover for moving to another spot.
      2.Ask them to scout ahead.
      3.Observe.
4.Take out a large threat such as a Heavy gunner on a armoud scout veichle.
5.Provide rear support when moving up formation.
6.Keep a eye out for any enemy coming into a checkpoint your squad is trying to capture.
7.And, have patience when having a Sniper in your squad because they cant do EVERYTHING.

      Thank you for your time.

Like I said, you have to get a feel for using the sniper rifle. When you're sniping the enemy at there airfield, you dont just stay in prone and shoot all day. Do the same thing you would do if you were another class. Take a split second to zoom in and shoot, than finish them off with 1 pistol shot. You barely lose health using this method. Than when someone attepmts to get in the jet, put your crosshair over there head and click.

Its a very powerful class. Think about it this way....what if spec ops had a gun that would take the enemy health down almost completely, but the fire rate was extremely slow. Its the same thing with the M95 only you zoom in for a split second before you shoot. Shooting one round from the M95, taking out a pistol, and than shooting with it is the same as a PKM firing 5 shots, you just have to be fast at it.

I remember I played a round with you once. I think we were in the same squad, not sure though.

              Re: Great Sniper Traits?

There are several reasons that I will never be great in this game but the most glaring seems to be that I enjoy the aspect of the kit as though it were real life. The idea of a sniper hopping like an idiot on a rooftop, or charging an enemy position is just laughable. Does it work, maybe, but who cares. There is such a thing as style. If you want a challenge, snipe without being seen. Make a kill and move. Find another spot. Any kit can be fun and rewarding if you play as though the game meant something. I died much more than I killed in the beginning, but I stick with it. I find I find I am much more patient now than when I started. I enjoy being a sniper and I enjoy helping the team win. There is nothing more rewarding than killing an enemy that's just about to put a missle into your teams tank, or drop a sniper just as he's lining up a shot on a memeber of your team. Snipers may not seem like big points contributers in matches, but they are there and they go mostly unnoticed, except by the other team. I love the fact that they need to send their attack chopper looking for me, that's 3 or 4 minutes that they aren't slaughtering our force at flags.

Yea, I get great satisfaction when im covering my squad going down a road towards a flag while theyre in a battle. Last time it happened two of my squad members were in a tank and were unable to notice a Spec. Ops guy throw C4 on them... and before he could get away to blow it I gave him a .50 bolt in the face from a building 150m away. I got a few praises for that.

                  Re: Great Sniper Traits?

i would gladly have a sniper in "my" squad.. one of my friends is a REALLY good sniper, hopefully when i get a videocard we will make a squad...

ive seen a squad with a sniper once (i forgot wich level, but it was a urban one).. and the team was crossing the bridge (medics, assaults, suppots, spec op) and they were crouching beside the wall (while walking across the briidge) and when i was foccused on them, i saw that not too far away, there was a sniper and he shot me... I re-spawned and i found that the sniper went with the squad and all went into a helicopter and flew away

                    Re: Great Sniper Traits?

                    Good sniper traits....mmmm.....

Stealth - finding really good spots to effectively be a pain in the a** toi the enemy to allow your team to be effective. Those are two traits, really.

Accuracy obviously and perhaps the ability to keep enemy air assets out of play. But i guess this just encourages base camping. But this is as useful to the team a specops blowing enemy assets - so???

A good sniper can act as a wide view spotter for ground troops who are too involved in closer cobat to see the wider picture. So maybe theres a local commander type role too for a really good sniper. Eg can spot sneaky enemy or armor while troops take/defend the flags. Wow! Sniping and teamwork - now there's an idea!!!!

But stealth and accuracy are the tops. Contributing to the team effort too is top notch sniping.

Every good sqaud has a sniper, to take long shots, spot enemies and scout.

I'm a sniper whore and my regular sqaud always asks me to be sniper and do my thing.

                        Re: Great Sniper Traits?

The great sniper moment are exactly that; 1 moment which is highly remembered because it is rarely repeated.

I'm not flaming snipers here, as I said I enjoy it enough to use the kit 10% of my time. Sure snipers reduce the health of targets for other players to finish off but last I checked a sniper can snipe or wound the gunner on a tank but C4 will kill the tank and both occupants gaining 2 tickets every time.

When I played MOHAA, I sniped alot, I'm quite good at it but BF2 is 3 dimensional game and moves way too fast to call the sniper an effective class.

It's a player choice hopefully for someone on a strong team. Somone posted the art... and not being seen yadda, yadda. If you're playing Matshuur [sp?] and it's 10 V 10 and you have 2 snipers it's really 8 V 10. Sure they stop one guy coming on the flag but we've all mastered the art of using cover & the flag still lowers. Then bunny hop and noob tube or AT [the dummy's sniper rifle] Medics can even own.

                        I've prevented flag captures
I've killed plenty of pilots in their chair, some 2-fers w/ a clueless gunner
I like dropping people in Body armor w/ one chest shot, it's fun.

My kit of choice is AT but that's wearing because play is getting too good and 4 shots takes a long time for 1 kill and typically 1 respawn.

                        Anyway,

I don't snipe if my team is losing because that's not helping your team retake flags or get the ticket count closer. There are magical moments and it can be fun and take more skill but..........

The best trait is being able to quickly pick up another player's kit.

I'm done 'cause I know you're trying to be serious about this.

                          Re: Great Sniper Traits?

Having a sniper that stays hidden, taking a shot once in a while, is as useless as titts on a bullfrog to your team. Honestly...what joy is there in that...the once-in-a-while kill? Its more satisfying to pop a M95 bullet in your enemy from 3 feet away and than shoot him with your pistol while he violently blasts his DAO-12 trying to hit you. It just says "I owned you hard" rather than when you shoot someone from 100 meters away.

Its probably the easiest way to get a kill next to using the nade launcher...it just takes practice. You have to quickly zoom in, zoom out, and immediately take a shot before your enemy has a chance to move. The whole process of shooting him with the M95 should take no longer than 1 second. So frickin' easy, and it has the enemy scratching there head, saying "I got killed by a sniper from 2 feet away while I had a DAO??...I must suck more than I thought"

anything that makes your enemy scratch his hgead asking wtf happened there is great. And tits on a bullfrog - now theres a sight!!!!

                              Re: Great Sniper Traits?

I think I played well as a supporting sniper in my last game. On the level with the TV station and the building site... The building site was heavily defended by the american team, first I eliminated their snipers who were hiding in the usual out-of-the-way-yet-entirely-predictable sniping spots.

Then I covered a squad attacking the building site, killing guys at the top of ladders, spotting soldiers my guys couldn't see, basically if it wasn't for me those guys would probably not have taken the flag at all for the rest of the game because it was so heavily defended, yet after a few minutes of sniper fire from me they managed to reach the flag relatively unmolested. I had 37 kills at the end of the round

Of course they were probably unaware of their guardian angel watching over them

That said, I don't normally play as a sniper, just when the situation calls for one. You need to have a grasp of strategy, timing and how best to benefit your team mates to be useful. One GOOD sniper can be a godsend, they are all too rare though.
