Some "spotters" are ok, others are idiots. I've seen many times commander spotting enemies at THEIR (enemy) HQ (red circle).
Many commanders also don't realize that you can't spot enemy just after the scan, while it still has the red dot over it. I mean, you spot it, but it doesn't show up on the minimap. You have to wait for red dot to disappear, then spot it.
Probably some commanders don't realize that, so they keep on spotting same guy 10 times, and wondering why it is not on minimap...
I tend to spot a lot as a commander.
I will place the UAV in a place where the enemy is concentrated only if there are friendlies in the area.
I will spot any enemy soldier that is near a friendly out of the way of the UAV. Give them a chance to kill/escape where they might have had an oportunity if the uav was on them.
I havent been told to "stop/shutup" yet by any team, but imagine I would if I were told to do so as I agree if it is not usefull spotting (ie: the enemy commander sitting in a bldg in an area where no friendly forces are.) it can get a bit old.

Is that for real? Not that I refute what your saying, I've just never heard of this before. That would seem kind of pointless to not be able to spot the nme that your sat scans reveal. I've never really stopped to notice whether things I spot are blinking on the minimap or not.
I don't think what I said warranted this reponse. I normally play alone but do so taking into account the bigger picture, (As I did when you asked me to kill the SF destroying our arty Loki)!
All I ask is that you keep the notification down a bit......we can't hear anything else other than 'Enemy infantry spotted'! Yes we know they are, thats the point of the game, we attack them and surprise surprise, they attack us.
Unlike others I have not built up my score being a BH Whore so obviously anyone who has not must be a Noob. Grow up.
Spotting enemies is the commanders job. He sees things that you don't and is pointing them out for your and the teams benefit. It is obnoxious to get the spammed ID calls, but if you know where your enemy is you have a much better chance of killing him. Yes the other team is going to attack you, but when, where, with what you do not know until it is on top of you or the commander spots them for you.
I think the major problem is that people don't listen to what their commanders say. When I am spotting, Enemy spotted = go kill that guy.
I don't doupt that the commanders need to show the enemy on the map but the UAV make a much greater job than hearing: ENEMY INFANTRY SPOTTED in arabic all the freakin time when you can barely understand your friends on TS and hear what is going on the battelfield.
They should have put a radio spam control just like the non-commander players. It is just annoying.
I play as a commander quite a bit. This is what I do, judge me as you will:
I put UAV in the battle hotspots, where most fighting is going on and most enemies are.
I spot enemy soldiers, once, if they are of note, e.g. a sniper that someone can nail, or a lone guy capping a nearby flag. This will sometimes result in about 5 'spotted's in a row on a 32 man server. I don't do it too often though, just to highlight important troops, or tanks, etc. when needed.
Because I too have been on the end of a spotted spam. Seriously, I played one game where the commander spotted infantry non-stop. I went insane after five minutes of constant "spotted" speech, and mutinied. Amazingly, it was the only mutiny vote I've ever seen suceed, because everyone else was annoyed with the commander too!
You know you can change the area your mini map sees. A lot of times I hear things like "Roger That" but I don't see anything blinking on the mini map. Other times I hear a call for ammo but I don't see anything on the mini map. It's like all comm on your side is heard regardless of whether or not you have full coverage or minimal coverage on your map. What's the point of that?
If you commander spots enemy on a part of the map you are not on or don't have your mini map set to see then will you still hear it? If so, that would be totally annoying.
Also, when a commander spots enemy I know as a commander you it causes the enemy to blink red and it calls out his kit class but does the same info show up on your mini map? I haven't really paid much attention to it.
If my UAV is deployed over one flag, and I have a squad working another, I'll spot like a crazy fool. I try not to get crazy with it, but sometimes it looks that way. I've never had an excessive ammount of complaints when I fire off worthy warnings, such as Enemy Armor Spotted.. thats a nice one to know when your squad is on foot and consists of 2 medics and a support clown.
Commanders really anoy me that spot constantly theres no need in anoying everyone, just spot people that pose a threat i.e. tank or an infantryman whose right up close on one of yours
he may be spotting enemies that are in different areas that are near his troops. his UAV may have been already deployed at a hotzone and one or two bad guys are approaching a CP with a few friendlies nearby. of course, he's gonna spot them for the friendlies to kill.
just ignore it. it's not like the radio spam is causing you to have seizures.
What he said..... I spot all enemys if friendlys is close to them and the UAV is other wise occupied.
As commander I will use that command when I am zoomed in and see a guy near a flag but no sure of where the enemy is. The UAV is usually busy on another area so I can't use it. I don't do it 20 times in a row but I assumed the enemy lit up for my guy the way it does when I call out the spotted thus giving him the heads up where the guy is.
I have seen this help my guys when I do this so I don't think it's a bad thing. Maybe 20 times in a row, but 3-5 times is good.
Ya know... after reading this thread, the solution seems simple.
What we want is for the "enemy spotted" voice to NOT play every time the commander uses that command. Maybe only play it once during a 3 to 5 second period.
Make sence?
In the meantime, I'd much rather be annoyed and making a kill ('cause I know where the bastage is), than getting killed in peace.
