It is definitly Arabic and I will be glad to translate anything you want!

However, bewarned that they made a lot of mistakes in the translation and sometimes it is very annoying if you understand what they said.

For example:
-"Get in" is translated in arabic as "get the car in" something like put the car in the garage!
-"The enemy is in control" is translated exactly the opposite!
-"enemy units on the ground" translation is litral translation. for the first time when you hear it you think that the enemy is killed on the road!


There are countless errors in the arabic translation. I wonder how they did in the chinese translation!

another annoying example of the wrong translation is

-"first aid here!" is sometimes translated into "we need first aid!"
-"ammo here!" is translated sometimes into something like "we need ammo!"


I disagree with the guy who said that it is a problem of finding matching words. it is actually completely wrong translation. as someone said... they probably ran those statements in babelfish and asked someone to say them.

actually "enemy aircraft spotted" is one of the least troubling translations.

Are you Middle Eastern Decent or were you tought, if you are of ME decent you would udnerstand a ME to Amaerican English translation does this to words.

For example if I was to say in persian...

Also understand for some words in arabic or english we have words in each culture that do not carry over to each language so one culture may have a longer word for a short easy word of the other culture or no word at all and has to mash together words that make, it make sense in that cultures language.... *sigh*

Do you understand? I think we have settled this matter, if anyone is confused from this point forward, please go to your localy Community college or locate someone to teach you Arabic/Farsi then maybe you will understand, that other languages do not follow the same forms as English.

I am from Jordan (Live in Iowa) and I definitly know the arabic grammer very well (at least above the average guy's knowledge). I know what you are talking about. Still, the problem is that they ran them into babelfish! sometimes they made litral translations and sometimes it is just wrong.

Thats why its called Translationit is not 100% correct.
There is nothign wrong with it IMO its a damn good step forward for Language speaking in Gaming

However...the #1 reason to keep the foreign voices is when you are standing in an alley as MEC/China and you hear: "get first aid here!, or ammo here!"...you know there is an enemy right around the corner.

If you use all English dialogue, then you will never know if it is a friendly or enemy around that corner.

At least it is better than the "Hada Howa" translation for "Roger that!" in DesertCombat.

Did you play DesertCombat? I am sure you will laugh a lot when you hear the Iraqis talking in that game for the first time. I enjoyed it a lot anyway... especially "Hada Howa". We even keep repeating it in our daily life from time to time until now.

BTW. All of us, the [DUCKS] clan, are from Jordan. we live in the US. we are all adults with families and all of us use VOIP. We will be definitly very glad to have an arabic-speaking player with us!

I noticed there are many arabic speaking guys in this forum. However, I never talked to someone in arabic other than my clanmates. and BTW, we all understand the egyptian accent and have several egyptian friends.

Wow Black duck, I'm impressed. I was hoping to attract some middle easterners with this thread, and that answers any questions. Again, for someone ignorant like me (and much of the bf2 audience) it's still really neat to hear a foreign language over the radio even if it is horribly butchered.

I was seriously thinking of making a note of all of the mistakes in the translation and sending them to EA/DICE. I am just too busy to do something like that and what is even worse is when you spend the time on it and EA does not listen because such a thing will probably mean they should hire someone to "speak" arabic!

I am Chinese and only 10% of the Chinese voice over makes sense, although grammarly way off.

You'd think DICE could manage to find and hire a chinese person. I mean, you are the largest nationality in the world for god sakes!

if you know writing its KANJI and its Japanesse for Eternal. Its the easiest symbol I could find for the meaning of many languages/writings

Should the character have been Hiragana or Katakana that would have been fair enough, but Kanji and Chinese characters are so very close, and many are in fact the same.

EDIT: What exactly was wrong with the translations on Desert Combat? I was on the testing team for DC and DC Final, and spoke with the voice artist on a number of occasions. The guy grew up in Saudi and still lives there today

Well this symbol closely resembles the symbol for Water in chinese but means eternal in japanese, so I was clarifying where it came from since not many people know the symbol/meaning :)
