the real life blackhawk carries the gatlin gun, which fires explosive rounds that contain uranium shells, which explote in contact. it was designed for the a-10 thunderbolt, (which we all know n love from DC) to kill tanks wit few bursts of bullets..so its not UNREALISTIC... its very real.. belive it.. i watched it in the military channel
yeah... the a-10 gatling gun is about the size of an old VW bus. it produces half as much thrust as the actual a-10 engines, meaning it would flip the BH over. also, a little fun fact about the a-10s gatling gun, the depleated uranium round, when it hits a tank it pressurizes the cabin inside so fast, the bodies inside squirt out the hole the round went in. so, get ur facts right. apaches also use a different type of gun. its cool because it moves whe the gunners head moves, where the gunner looks, the gun aims.
The M134 minigun can fire up to 4,000 - 6,000 rounds per minute. Thats about 80-100 rounds PER SECOND. It would tear an APC apart in real life in less than 5 seconds (~500 rounds fired.)
in actuality its more around the lines of 1,000-10,000 rounds per minute. but that is more recent.

This isn´t a little fun fact but a little military urban legend which has nothing to do whatsoever with reality. The same thing is often told about tank´s APFSDS rounds ("it sucked pigs through the exit hole in tests yadda yadda"), yet it never happens in reality. You can check this for example in the documentation of friendly fire incidents in Desert Storm, where a lot of vehicles have been hit by Sabot, and there is not sign whatsoever of "people sucked through holes".
I was playing last night and this was the first time I've had a Blackhawk gunner kill my APC in about 5 secs of firing at it. I know this is an arcade game, but c'mon! There's no way a 7.62 round would even penetrate the armor. I can live with taking some license to make the game fun, but geez.
If it takes two or three hits to kill an APC with a shoulder launched AT missile, a minigun shouldn't kill it.
I've fired a mini at an APC from a Blackhawk to no avail. I think you may not have noticed that your APC was well damaged at the time the gunner started shooting at you. Although the mini's gun damage to an armored vehicle is relatively small, over time a great deal of damage can be wrought with a mini on hard targets; soft targets, like hummers, jeeps and people don't stand a chance against a mini.
The reason a mini-gun can take out an APC is because its cranking out over 65 rounds per second. The rounds are 7.62 NATO caliber (equivelant of a .308 cal round) and they are more powerfull than AK rounds which are 7.62 X 39mm. 7.62 NATO rounds are 7.62 X 51 mm.

no no no, the gun on the blackhawk is the gau 2, the one on the a10 is the gau 8. BIG difference. One is 7.62 mm, the other is 30mm. If a gau 8 was fired from a blackhawk, it would make it really unstable, and if not rip the supports that hold the gun to the chopper, it would roll the chopper to its side. The a10 was built around the gun, and theres a reason why its the only vehicle to use the gau 8. And apaches dont have mini guns :)
I'm usually a realism fanatic, and still am through this opinion. Armor piercing rounds are not ALWAYS used, and in terms of a realistic balance, this is unfair.
As BF2 is currently horribley blandly set up as all the teams being exactly even (which makes good stratagies relatively impossible, and always boring and simple, usually taking advantages of gameplay dynamics, not tactics) the BH is waaay better than it's equivilant on other teams.
I say take the splash damage away, and the armor piercing ability. Just have normal rounds in the thing.
Leave specialized Black hawk (and other ammo for other vehicles) to mods who have a much better sense of gameplay dynamics that DICE.

The only incidence in real life that I'm aware of similar to this, is in the case of the pioneer deep sea divers - you know - brass helmet, rubber suit, hoses attached to pumps onboard ship to supply the air.
If the pump supplying the air and positive pressure failed, the diver, minus their bones, would be squirted back up the hose - like toothpaste out of a tube.

A10 bullets ARE really depleted uranium
gives them more MASS so they plow through armor
I was not questioning the "uranium" content of them, but they are not made wholey of uranium.
Anyway, true about them being more solid and plowing their way through...can go through concrete pretty easy too...shame about the DU armor on tanks and the extra glow they give to the guys in them though...LOL
Im not going to complain about the power of the weps on the choppers..
hey.. if they line me up, kill me with wither rockets or gun or cannon..
thats a kill in my book, and they deserve the kill.. arguing over whether
the hole in me is 1" or 5" really doesnt mean much..im dead. :)
my complaint with the aircraft is that they are for the most part, hard
to take down.. a tank shell should blow to hell whatever portion
of the chopper it hits...especially if it hits the main body..so..therefore
chopper goes bye bye.. but Ive hit them a bunch of times only to see
them smoke a little and fly off for repair..be back in 20 secs.. Im getting
very good at guiding my AT rockets, but still that takes 2 hits minimum,
usually... which I guess I cannot complain about too much, as 1 would
be too few to take it down every time..
Im campaigning for them to be slightly weaker in the armor dept...but
not so much so they are uselessly vulnerable...and say.. like those vans..
:)
