Thats why it's a waste to use it on infantry, only good purpose it serves is against fast moving vehicles ( jets ) and missles defence, in real life though.

Not to mention that shooting the minigun for one second would cost you about $30.

And calling the ammunition "uranium bullets" is another misunderstanding obviously...

I still laugh at everyone who appears to know EVEYRTHING about every weapon or helo or tank etc on this game...LOL

The best bit about this thread is those that dont know much have now left it up to those of you who really do

As usual when I am in the BH I like wasting APC's but when in an APC getting smoked in a sec by the BH it sucks.

As for real life, it doesnt matter really, but I am glad CS-Evolution can at least post something intelligent here. He is correct.

p.s. - was at the Macdill air show last year, they had a A-10 there and also a BH with miniguns (BH was painted all black too, looked awesome). The miniguns on the BH looked like toys compared to the giant cannon on the A-10. That thing was seriously intimidating!

I still wouldn't be surprised if it could damage an armored vehicle in reality, but I don't think anyone here could prove it.

Edit Again- ARGH, Uranium shells don't explode on contact either. The whole point is for them to be so dense that they PENETRATE the armored target. That's what makes them so effective. They're NOT incindiary.

A10 bullets ARE really depleted uranium
gives them more MASS so they plow through armor

Note: the ammunition is not uranium, it's depleted uranium. Ask your chemistry buddies what the difference is -- it's fairly significant, especially if you're the one who has to handle the stuff.

DU is the same stuff they make the M1's sabot rounds out of. Most people are suprised to learn that the actual projectile contains no explosives whatsoever. It's basically a supersonic lawn dart that relies on kinetic energy to destroy it's target.

Since when is the amount of projectiles hitting a target in any given period of time any indication as to whether or not said projectiles are actually capable of penetrating said target? Are you saying that if you hurl 1,000 paper airplanes at a brick wall in one second, they would penetrate, JUST because there are so many hitting it in a small amount of time?

You're right, the previous comment about firing 1,000 rifle rounds at the same spot on a tank being able to eventually penetrate was just rediculous.

The point though about the mini-guns and APCs is that, in general, most APC armor isn't really that thick. It's only designed to stop small arms and shrapnel from wounding or killing the occupants. Folks tend to forget that just b/c it looks like a tank doesn't mean it is a tank.

Since the blast of bullets is concetrated at less than a 2 foot radius if you fire it per second, think about it

Thats 100 bullets hitting the same area within 2 feet.

I think it's a slight exaggeration to say that a word is non-existent simply because it's misspelled by one letter.

True in a sense but false in general.

You seem to forget bullets are constructed of a similar material to armour, except armour is thicker. So its not paper your throwing at a wall it MUST be other bricks. 1000 bricks being thrown at a wall will eventually break it.

So in essence if you were to fire bullets at the same place for an extended period of time you could pierce it. Even the smallest scratch means eventual penetration.

Nevertheless, it gets the point across.

I bet that black chopper had a long aerial refueling probe stickin out the front of it too, didn't it? Did the guys that were there have on maroon berets? It most likley belonged to my old unit. Now that they're no longer (since June of 1990) a black operation, they do air shows as a recruiting tool.
