Skill means in BF2 that you recognise the battle-situation fast and know with what class would you be the most efficient in that moment and also able to execute your plan.

Agreed.
One thing that was not addressed yet from the original post - n00b.
So far in game - I see this used by people instead of calling someone an a-hole, retard, jerk, idiot - pretty much anything degrading. It is pretty much just an all around insult - but pointless. It stands for newbie - which means you are new to the game, or the ways of battlefield 2.
I think it is a pointless expression since people use it all the time, and for so many different reasons.
Defining skill as it relates to BF2 seems rather subjective, but we can find a common ground to quantify it and make accurate assessments of how much of it any given player has.
I see BF2 skill as
1- using any kit/vehicle with a high degree of proficiency,
2- the capacity to adapt to any particular situation/scenario,
3- the ability to have a serious impact on any round by mere presense
I'm sure there's quite a bit missing, but the essentials are there.
Being opportunistic is A skill, but not the definition of skill.
When Peyton Manning finds the open receiver, that's skill.
When Brett Favre forces the ball into double coverage, that's skill too.
Not skilled:
Getting sacked. Throwing an interception.
It's all in being successful. It's hard to declare yourself skilled if you are getting killed constantly, regardless of which weapon or kit you've chosen.
 sry bud but had to put the meaning of being sad.
the only thing you need for FPS is good system, good connection, good mouse and hand eye co-ordination. ive seen friends go from wrestling game fanatics to being john rambo (trust me they were bad at begginning) but as for the rest it'll come with time.
practice, learn maps, learn sounds (ie footsteps of enemy etc) but most of all "enjoy yourself and have fun"
Is a person who can do one thing 10% better than average more skilled than someone who can do 2 things 5% better, or one person who can do 10 things 1% better?

1) Proficiency, facility, or dexterity that is acquired or developed through training or experience.
2) An ability that has been acquired by training.
3) The ability to produce solutions in some problem domain.
For definitions 1 and 2, basically, anything that you requires practice to become better at is something that you can be skilled at.
Using a grenade launcher at close range is easy and requires little practice (or skill) to do. Killing a sniper on a building 50 m away is difficult, and requires lots of practice (or skill) to be able to do, and to be able to easily repeat the kill in a similar situation.
Now, for defention 3, this basically means the ability to solve problems. So, everyone is fairly skilled at BF2: they understand that the bad guys need to be killed, so they solve the problem in various ways. However, more creative and thoughtful tactics would be defined as more skilled. Unfortunately, this is very relative. A sniper who shoots people from far away is not skilled compared to a sniper who moves around between 6 well camoflauged positions and is never killed. Some one who sees a tightly clustered group of enemies slowly moving and runs towards them with his weapon shouldered is less skilled than one who throws a grenade into the gathering.
In review, this is how I see skill: The more skilled you are, the more your ability to reproduce 'amazing' feats such as long range grenade kills (this is usually due to practice), and the better you are at solving tactical problems.

damn right you are ... getting advantage of any situation combined with a high positive win ratio can shows a real skilled player in their stats.
no need to prove himself.
Only unskilled players ****ed off by being kiled calls others noobs. If you can kill everyone easily you will never call anyone noobs, you would just remain silent.
No, skill is used as a point of differentiation between the majority of players and individuals who are better than the majority at certain tasks. If everyone can fire a noob tube at their feet (which most can) and kill a nearby opponent, then it's not really skill - it's a rudimentary task associated with playing BF2 that anyone with a mouse can perform. Same with sitting in a Blackhawk.
Those who can hit someone with the grenade launcher from, say, 100m away, have skill because they're exercising proficiency at doing something that not everyone can do.
Now technically everyone who plays BF2 would be considered skilled against someone who plays Checkers all the time, but that's not a useful measure.
Skilled is the ability to excel beyond what is basic, common, and achievable by most.
thats sort of true and im not saying that jumping and firing a grenade at your feet is ok, but going off what you say people who jump and shoot a grenade at there feet and dnt die have skill and people who die dont. skill is a hard thing to say. skill comes with repetition but is it then skill or instinct or are they one in the same thing. who knows, not me im just bored at work so thought id put a pointless post here. hhhmmm an i skilled at pointless posting if i make enough of them.. now im confused
It comes down to efficiency whether it be the K or most Global points in a game. If you contribute 30 kills and no deaths to your team's score, you are skilled. It doesn't matter how you got them as long as it's not a mod or an exploit. Firing explosives at someone's feet has been around as long as I've played FPSs. In GoldenEye on N64 I was doing it and people called me cheap because I was doing it and they weren't. Halo same thing, Rainbow Six 3, same thing. Give me a break guys. It's not like the weapons can't be countered. Unless it's banned in tournament play, you have nothing to complain about. It's like yoda says: Tough cookie said the Wookie.
