Yeah i only noticed minor graphic changes such as the hood of the go-kart thing and maybe some grass, but now i also have everything on high, with 50 bots, and absolutly no lag. Huge performance difference-minor graphical adjustment, i'll take that any day.

I hear what your saying can't complain at all about the performance however it has taking away my eye candy.I'll try re-installing again.
Using a 6800GT anyone else with same problem with same card?

Hmm i haven't noticed this at all im running with a 6600gt and i run everything on high except textures,lighting and 2x AA also. I don't notice this cartoon effect the graphics are showing maybe i need to play on karkland and see if i notice any difference. I do notice the performance increase also. Lag has decreased alot for me since the patch and i love this patch. There does seem to be some sort of ranking problem. As soon as i downloaded the patch and started playing i already completed my rank even though i was only halfway through the meter. I don't mind though because I unlocked a new weapon.

Just installed the new patch and had quick game with settings as they were when played on previous version and for some reason the graphics look alot worse with the new patch and more cartoony anyone else noticed it?

I set the res. to 1280x1024 the first time I started it afther the patch. I can only say that I think the graphics don't look cartoony, but I think it's a lot better in this res. then 1024x768 and it's smooth like a babys ass. I can only say that I love the new patch.

OK, I did a direct comparison with 1.02 and 1.03 yesterday.
I had the feeling that the graphics were worse since 1.03, as well. Especially the textures on vehicles. I uninstalled the game yesterday and made some screenshots with 1.01 on the Gulf of Oman map and then the same ones with a updated to 1.03 game. And they looked absolutly the same. No difference.
However I still have the feeling that the graphics look a bit worse and more cartoony, too. I had about 30-40 fps on high settings with 1.02 and now, with same settings, about 50.
I have especially the feeling that the buggy and APC ´s textures are worse than before. But a quick screenshot comparison of 1.01 and 1.03 had no difference. If uninsatlling the game didn´t change anything "back" so might the changes be in the profiles (that I didn´t delete)?!!!

I had to reset my settings as it seemed to put textures on low (even when it said custom and I had it on high settings before) then was fine again.

I suggest resetting your graphics settings (because less qual geo and textures will make it look this way.).

Just my 2p worth (which is actually around 3.5cents :P).

Surprised no one has latched on to this.

What they have done in my humble, is lower the LOD (level of detail) setting.

Desert Combat done this in there 'optomization' patch. Some clever cookies figured this out and put up a fix. I've tried to use the fix in BF2 but doesnt work (ie change LOD settings)

This means things appear when you are closer to them than before and disappear quicker. This brings in the cartoony effect.

I noticed it on Wake, where the grass was smooth at distance and only came into detail within close distances.

Have any of you also noticed that the vehicles disappear into the distance now quicker ie disappear.

Is this a good thing?

For low end machines...yes obviouslly as people have stated.

But no for higher end users.

There should be a LOD setting so you can choose performance over quality or if your performance is good an increased LOD to take advantage of your hardware.

Follow up:

Heres the videodeafault.con from my DC that had been changed to make the graphics better.

renderer.globalLodRadius 1
renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 5

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

I changed my BF2 videodefault.con, but nothing happened. They must have locked this setting somehow.

Here is an example. Forgive my low graphics settings, but you can see how the detail radius works.

I done this in Wake Island and you could see the deatil pop up in a wave in front of the jeep in external view. Check it.

Edit Bollox attachment didnt work!! Upload fuction is coming up with errors.

Bottom line is the LOD needs fixed. Any of you brain boxes figure it out?

Changed my res to 1280x1024 and obviously looks better because everything tiny lol but would like it to be as it was before.
Got Your Back maybe you had no difference but other people have so I suggest you be quiet till you have witnessed it yourself or just get an eye test.
