Can any career commander, squad leader, or other kit player testify to the value of the sniper on the team? Cite actual experiences. Preferably more than one.

The USMC must have snipers for a reason. I wouldn't think they'd have them if they didn't find them useful, wouldn't you think?

I am defending, but I would not consider myself a sniper by any means. Sniper is my least-played kit at about 5 and a half hours out of my total game time of 164 hours. (That's 3% of my time.)

Yet nothing is more frusterating then being killed by a good sniper you cant see...

Every time your in a firefight with someone who has two bars of health, thank a sniper
Everytime that person thats running at you with a gun just falls over and dies, thank a sniper.
every time your last flag is defended by infantry, thank a sniper
Every time a full blackhawk that is hovering by your flag just falls over and smashes, thank a sniper

BF2 is not real life, so don't even start with that.

And your defense is, what? That they exist in the real world so they must work perfectly in game?

I think Ass Variable has a very legitimate gripe. The sniper class is probably the most underpowered/useless class in the game. Before all the noobs begin heckling me with their cookie cutter responses, i.e. "you just plain suck", take a miniute and actually process what Ass Variable is highlighting in his very first post.

Why would you play a class that fairs no better than any of the other classes, especially in its intended role/purpose? Just a few days ago, I tried using the sniper class again in hopes of spicing up my gameplay. I discovered that they were indeed utterly worthless. You can't hit a barn door with the guns specially designed for accuracy, and in the unlikely event that you do, you require many shots to actually score the kill (e.g. I shot someone 4 times with the svd the other day, and they still lived long enough to pinpoint my location, and finally kill me.)

Which brings me to another slighly off topic issue. This game needs to fine tune the accuracy off all guns included, with possible exception of the G36. I am sick and tired of stumbling into a sitiation where the circumstances dicatate that I should have complete dominance, (e.g. enemy has their back facing me), especially when I begin registering the hits, only for them to turn around and kill me. That is simply imbecilic, and has to be stricken from the game ASAP (L85 I am looking at you!). The high deviation between progressive shots borders on the stupid, and I cant help but imagine the mildly retarded individual who decided to make this a fundamental aspect of the game.

Fix this and the many other problems EA.

my favorite tactic is to be near a flag that my team is going to take and wasting the c4 suicidign noobs while they lie in wait for an apc or tank to come to the area or anti tank's as well

snipers can be a great asset in capping if the team is working as a team not like chickens with their heads cut off

One more thing was mentioned in this thread that i wanted to post about,
i've recently started using this tactic, and when my team has a few braincells still left
in it despite all that nubtube launching, they use it...

The tactic is creating your own squad, so when the team is **** outta luck,
they can join my squad and spawn up when it becomes a neccesity.

And i make it sure that my claymores protect nearby passages,
not the immideate place around me.

You can, of course, play as an "aggressive sniper" - but wouldn't another class be better for that?

I've played about 15% of my time as aggressive sniper. I hate camping because it's too easy to get killed if you stay in the same spot.
I prefer to watch my teammates back rather than have my team stood next to a flag and get grenaded or shot from inside a building or whatever.
I spot, I'm not far from the flag, close enough to see people about to shoot my teammates.
Most times I do play other classes but there's no real stock weapon that I can use from a good covering range.
I need to kill (or neutralize) an enemy before he shoots my teammates in the back.
Even if it takes two shots to kill someone, they will usually hide after they get hit the first time, my team is alerted to the fact that there's an enemy in that window or round that corner and they have an idea where the closest enemy is.

I'm not one of these idiots who just camps somewhere remote without ever capping a flag,
I'm a team leader (6hrs), team player(10hrs), occasional commander(1hour) - out of 20 hours playing.

I don't ever play sniper when its not needed, I do get in there and cap flags. Except for the occassions when theres already lots of people capping a flag, I think someone should hang back and cover other angles. Why not as a sniper?
My team would be dead if I have to use half a M4 clip to take out one enemy from a distance. People have a fear of snipers and that can help my team.

Why should there be no place for a team sniper in this game?

unlike most? no, that particular brand of ignorance is actually commonplace. it's really just "the norm". must be neat to be so naive though. you somehow "take the internet seriously" enough to condescend to it instead of reply with any kind of cogent, emotionally stable discourse.

I have you know I play as a "Action Sniper" and therefore don't camp like others. I go strait into the battlefield, run with all the rest of the guys, and get lots of kills. The n00b sniper who camps, yes, is very annoying. Im just saying that "Action Sniping" is actually a great tactic.

However you will never understand the satisfaction of seeing a guy through a scope and then picking him off without him knowing what hit him.

ehm ... i´ve played more than 70 hoirs as sniper and i think it helps the team more if i kill guys trying cap our flags than to run around with a nade launcher and killing 2 teammates with every shot too ...

im not a little ***** sniper who sits around. i mean yeah clan matches i will, but in the real game i usually come out with 60 points as a sniper. i assualt with the sniper rifle.

Anyway i agree with variable, The reason Snipers are in the game is because there are snipers in real conflicts, but there primary use is to take out an important target permanately, unfortunately in the video gaming world this just doesnt happen....... (yet, hopefully), respawning in a round makes a sniepr useless.

You know why? coz u shot the guy, if he has 3 braincells then he'll see where they are (usually a crane) and then he'll change his kit to something with a good rifle, like spec ops or something and then he'll kill them.

Not every sniper is a camper (as this thread has already proved)
There are aggressive snipers (http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=82)
and there are useless snipers who camp remote places (like cranes)
