For my two cents (then I'm broke) I player sniper every now and then and I'm quite good (the biggist lie you'll see in this sentence). But I usually like Special Ops also. And ultimatly I like to fill in where (which ever kit) I'm needed. A good Sniper is woth his/her weight in blood. And for heavens sake, a sniper has to CAMP. That's what he does. Your right about him/her not being much good in an assault. And one shot (sometimes two) is ALL a sniper will get in one position (normally). Anymore and your pretty well dog meat. But each to there own. Team play with good sniper support equals a good game. G.A.M.E. :cry: :laugh:

Since most of you missed the point of my post, I'll paraphrase it:

• I rarely get killed by snipers.
• Anything the Sniper can do in BF 2, other classes can do better - and other classes can perform additional, meaningful duties that the Sniper cannot.
• Could you be doing an even better job and having even more fun with another class? Try it.

I for one kill more and die less as a sniper than other classes.

Every class has its own advantage and disvantage. Bashing Sniper or any particular class is just stupid.

You rarely get killed by snipers doesn't mean sniper worth nothing, you prolly got saved by your fellow snipers many times you just don't know it.

If you put two even skilled spec op and sniper in a 100m- close ranged combat against each other, of course the sniper would have much less chance to survive. But no other class alone can fight against a well hidden sniper in a 200m+ range.

Sniper class is not useless, it just need to be played different and its not easy to master. Sniper is the only class with camo suit (and it really works if its used correctly). Sniper is the only class can take out an enemy from 300+ range. Each class has its own advantage and disvantage.


BTW, sniper rifles are not inaccurate, and I believe bullet drop does exist.

Yes, snipers are a very valuable asset to any game. I've saved my team's bacon a good number of times as a sniper. Such as when my squad converged on the Chinese heli-base in Songhua. I climbed the back hill first, and then hid in a little dip in the rock face without anyone seeing me. I didn't get many kills, but my shots flushed a bunch of guys out for my squad to finish off as they ran for it. Without me, they would have been ambushed at least twice.

If played right, snipers can do great. If played wrong (doing nothing but going on top of rooftops and skylining) they can drag a team down something horrible.

ok so im a sniiper most of the time, well 100% on my new account. and get about 16-24 kills in a round, so and die like once or twice a game. So im not ever wasting tickets.

Also camping in one spot is also not for a n00b sniper. I usually stay in one spot for most of the game. and my class is almost over so ill finish this when i get home

If I'm playing with my usual guys on my regular server, I'm in a squad using whatever kits are needed. If I'm in a random pub where no one is using voice, squads, etc. I enjoy sniping. I agree that you don't need a sniper in a squad, they are useful for camping flags and spotting enemies, etc.

Sometimes I just don't feel like playing a certain map, or just want to sit back for a while, so I'll go as sniper and pick off the occasional soldier. It's good to be well-rounded, and not just play how others think you should.

I am sure that Variable has experienced what just about everyone has, a map where you can lose all control points, after scraping and fighting your way from point to point, wondering why the enemy always seems to put more guys at each flag. You finally lose all control points.

You look into the player list to see who is alive, and what do you see? 3-4 snipers out of your possible 16 players. So you click the squad tab to see where they are... in cranes, standing next to a heli pad, waiting for a jet, oblivious to the fact that nobody can spawn. And you sit and wait, people type messages to them "get a flag" nothing happens.... still sniping from the crane, thinking ooh look at my kdr, irl33t.

I know, all the people who visit this forum are not those snipers, you are all the team players who go and attack with a squad and help capture control points and defend them. It's all those other snipers that this thread is directed towards.

a lot of points i agree one...sometimes i dont have a clue why some people would be snipers on certain maps... but on others i can do...and it is always the sniper that sits in some crappy obvious place that gets killed and eoesnt cap flags at all...

but ill admit after a long time of not playing sniper i tried it out on karkand last night getting onto the water tower next to the BH flag m24ing people then picking up an m95 it was quite fun as i was somehow killing a lot of people...but it was so boring and easy...i can see why people are annoyed by them...

Sorry to rain on your parade Ass, but its not your choice what ppl play as. What ****es me of most is whiners saying "dont do this, do that" about how other people chose to play. If you dont like snipers, buy your own server & kick them. Until then we still have free choice. BTW, I only play sniper when the other team really suck & pose no threat to our team, its just fun

i agree with you variable, allthough i can understand peeps like to play the kit, which makes it worth putting it in the game, i think.

One more thing id like to say is that the argument of "snipers are good for counter-sniping" is rediculous, its like creating a problem and countering it with itself. To elaborate, it balances itself out, and if it balances itself out you do not have to create it in the first place.

Yes, but it's also directed to anyone who chose sniper for its sex appeal when another class would be just as (or more) effective, AND be able to contribute in other ways.

Two things interest me about the replies so far:

1) Sniper is the class of choice for people who are feeling lazy.

Sometimes I just don't feel like playing a certain map, or just want to sit back for a while, so I'll go as sniper and pick off the occasional soldier.

I play sniper a bit in the 64 man servers because its like my lazy mood after a bad day.

I play Sniper on certain maps, and usually when I'm tired after a hard days work.

You can, of course, play as an "aggressive sniper" - but wouldn't another class be better for that?

A few other interesting quotes:

Sniper is pretty good as long as you don't use it from long distances.

2) Every single person who has posted a semi-intelligent defense of snipers, is a sniper. Can any career commander, squad leader, or other kit player testify to the value of the sniper on the team? Cite actual experiences. Preferably more than one.

I've never had issues with snipers.....hell, they usually make great kills....until last night.

We were getting viciously blackhawk whored on Mashtuur City (imagine that huh?), and all of the flags were capped. We have exactly two people left on the team. Both snipers. Despite half a dozen messages on my part alone, not to mention those of my team mates, for them to "create a squad so other people can spawn on them", they chose to cower and hide, taking our last possible chance to win the round with them.

Now I'm not against playing to have fun, but for god's sakes, you've already moved yourself into a worthwhile position, make yourself useful and create a squad so that others don't have to start out in BFE.
