the most snipers Ive seen in a game is 5 on a 32 player game.

The problem with the way this game is played isnt that everyone camps and protects bases...its that NOONE PROTECTS BASES.

Everyone just goes to the next flag to reclaim it (usually in a helo)...noone makes the effort to hold the flags. Holding the flags is far better than constantly reclaiming them. But noone ever does. Which renders snipers alot less effective.

So if you want to protect a flag (rather than re-claiming them) you do it by killing anyone that tries to capture it.

Snipers can also offer recon info that the other classes can't (they have a scope)

Snipers can protect numerous flags from one place.

Some snipers are noobs...some medics are noobs...some spec ops are noobs...so what

But i think a high proportion of snipers are crap...ive NEVER been headshot by another sniper in one shot.

I play sniper sometimes and to be honest the starting thread is just wrong if i play sniper i sit and camp at a flag to protect i have lost count of how many times i have stopped the enemy claiming a flag.

The sniper class is very effective as you can spot enemy targets incoming before any1 else which can help the team defend a flag better,by knowing which direction the enemy is coming.

I could go on but i can't be bothered, im not a hardcore sniper if you look at my stats i play spec ops or assault mainly.

I think you should lighten up after all it's only a game and peeps can play it how ever they want.

I used to hate snipers thought they were pathetic and n00bs however majority are n00b snipers you get very few good snipers.
I have started playing as sniper but will get stuck into capping a flag with me pistol or cover an attackin squad by harrassing the enemy.

Best thing I've seen yet! HOLD!!! DEFEND!!! I just became a sniper myself. I'm a very stealthy one at that. I haven't been stabbed in the ass by anyone either. If you get stabbed your a noob. We also have nade's. Hmm wonder what they could do? Take out say 3-4 enemy soldiers from capping a flag maybe? Try and disable my clay on a ladder? Think you can funny man? Nothing like a good 1v1 with another sniper. I also pwn most with my pisty so...Another funny thing is watching the ass lone wolf trying to take a flag alone and stabbing him in the back. He's thinking to himself where'd he come from. Fun time's! There's good and bad of every class. Have you ever had that idiot support guy never give you ammo? Same with medic's no health. Next time I see any of them I'll just stab em'. Take the kit throw some ammo/health around get my bag and get on with it. Tenshi agree'd.

I guarantee you I help my team when I'm a sniper. Countless times I've killed a guy that was about to toss a hand grenade into flag radius and kill my entire squad. Proper sniper tactics in BF2 certainly do help your team.

May you get headshot everytime you play.

I guarantee you I help my team when I'm a sniper. Countless times I've killed a guy that was about to toss a hand grenade into flag radius and kill my entire squad. Proper sniper tactics in BF2 certainly do help your team.

I like the sniper rifles, but I rarely justpick a spot and stay there. I usualy join up sniper class when my team is consistantly spawning from one base and going after another close one. This way i can take out a few noob tubers or machine gunners. I might stay sniper for 2 maybe 3 deaths and thats it, then its back to medic or support.

The only time I really snipe is on Dalian on 16 player maps as China.
Everyone else is too busy being vehicle whores. I just rush the main US base and cover my teammates.

What really annoys me as sniper is on Sharqi when they camp on the building opposite the US flag or up that damn crane. Most of them can't shoot for s**t.
When you've taken all the US flags you know where the last dumbasses are gonna be...

I would rather have that retard sniper sitting in the hills somewhere thinking he is doing the team good - rather than have him waste one of our assets like a tank or a chopper, etc.

If it makes them feel good, and they have fun - sweeeeet keep it up!

For those that are good snipers - which there are ones out there - you keep it up too - just stop shooting me!

I think the reason why there are too many snipers, and most of them seem to be noobs, is that playing sniper is an easy way for new players to stay alive a little longer and get a positive k/d. It's not such a bad way for new players to start out - they can learn the layout of the maps, and get a feel for how they work, before getting into the close up fighting.

Since most of you missed the point of my post, I'll paraphrase it:

• I rarely get killed by snipers.
• Anything the Sniper can do in BF 2, other classes can do just as well, or better - and those same classes can effectively contribute in other situations where the sniper is useless.
• Could you be doing a better job and having more fun with another class (using similar tactics but with greater versatility)? Try it.

One might want to rethink badmouthing the sniper class before harsh words are slung. I play the sniper occasionally on maps such as Sharqui Peninsula or Zatar Wetlands and I can't tell you how many times I have saved my teamates' lives by picking off approaching enemies unbenounced to those teamates. You may look at the sniper class as selfish and think of every shot the sniper takes as purely for points, but a good sniper takes shots that will save teamates' lives. Hell, if you play in ranked 64 player servers that run the two maps listed above, chances are I or someone else playing sniper class has saved your life numerous times. It's simply a different style of combat, watching over your teamates from afar and making sure they aren't flanked by the enemy. In respect to capturing flags as a sniper, I do make an effort, if near a hostile flag, to change it if the conditions are right, as I'm sure other snipers do. The misconception of the sniper class lies in its role. Snipers are reconisance and support players, pointing out approaching enemies unseen by teamates on the map using Q and taking out threats from afar. Knowing where your enemy is on the battlefield is an invaluable advantage and that advantage is usually given by the sniper residing at high elevation with greater visibility of the battlefield than other players (bar commader). Go ahead and argue that it is the commander that can take this role of spotting, but my retort is simple: the commander's uav can only be placed in one location at a time and although the scan can reveal all enemies across the battlefield, I highly doubt that the commander's index finger is fast enough to spot every enemy that shows up.
