Other classes can respond to changing conditions and threats right away, without requiring death or kit changing. If necessary, they can pick up kits from corpses to revive a teammate, or man nearby ground/air defenses, because they're not off in the distance, under a shady tree (or on a crane, or on a high hill, or wherever), removed from the action.

And those other kits are just as efficient, if not moreso, at killing people.

No, good commanders are the best spotters. Beyond that, anyone with two eyes and a desire to help the team can spot. It's not like snipers can see farther.

      Thanks for your reply :)

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

        Saving the team:
Shutting down a hovering bh, flag defense.
Sniping out vehicle gunners, team play.
        Hunting other snipers, team play.
        Need more?

        Terrorizing the enemy:

When a squad becomes aware that a sniper is somewhere nearby
they, in most cases, frantically run around in search
thus stopped from moving onto other flags.

And yes it does happen very often, just do a couple of headshots
        and they'll start ****ting themselves.

        Changing kits:
When my team starts losing a lot of flags i go out of my way to capture
or assist my team as a soldier, still in my sniper kit, and i hit nicely
from closerange. But when i die i come back as a different class.

Oh and snipers can pick other's kits too, not that you didn't know that,
it's just that you forgot to mention that in hopes of driving your opinion
        down everyone's throats.

Another thing you forgot to mention is that a commander has to wait
between using scans and uav's, a sniper can see a lot without it.

Ofcourse, a commander can just zoom in, but on 32 to 64 player maps
it becomes just too much of a micromanagement.

Before taking a shot at a new target i always spot, if i see an armor, apc,
chopper, or a plane, i spot.

p.s.: oh and, cranes are useless, obvious sniping spots should never be used.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

I tend to be sniper most of the time for alot of reasons one is range you have a higher chance of living if the person your killing dosnt know where there being shot from and also there is no greater joy then killing the piolt of a chopper when there cocky and think they can hover around all day (got to love 50cal) and unlike with most people i move alot for two reasons
          1. you kill to many people in one area they start hunting you.
          2. you get that one commander that will waste art after art on you trying to get that one kill and when your in a tower or crane the art is pointless it allmost never hits anywhere close to you.
and last but not least its a game do what you wanna do.

I'll just say this - the point of my post is that the other classes can do precisely what the sniper does (just as effectively), and a whole lot more. I can give you 2-3 other kits that will perform as well, and usually better, than the sniper kit in every single scenario you described.

You started to prove my point for me, right here...

You could be so much more effective as something else - at close and long range, vs personnel and vs vehicles. That's why you're changing kits after all, right? To be more effective in changing circumstances? Why not just use a kit that's effective in multiple scenarios in the first place?

The sniper kit is obsolete the moment that you have to do anything beyond taking long distance shots at naked infantry. Arguably, it's below average at doing even that.

I know they can - you failed to process the entirety of my point. Snipers are usually not in a POSITION to pick up a comrade's kit. Snipers sit far away from other people - it is, after all, their "role". When other people die, what are you going to do, sprint the distance and get iced before you make it 1/2 of the way there?

What? Don't read this thread if you can't handle a cogent argument that contradicts your own opinion. It's not like I'm driving to your house and beating you with a bat until you agree.

Snipers can't see any more than any other kit.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

              Snipers can be excellent teamplayers!

You are forgetting one very important thing that snipers should do: Spotting the enemy!

The UAV cant be everywhere, and if a sniper is in a good spot, he can help the team to locate the enemy. And besides, snipers are great to defend flags. I don´t know how many "flag defended" I´ve got, but is a lot. A sniper and an AT-guy could easily keep a flag on "our side" for an entire round.

But I agree that if you´re starting to get low on flags, you should get out of your hole and start capping :)

variable what are you on? Snipers are essentail on the battlefeild as they kill lots of people you infantrymen can't see and they also most importantly spot aircraft tanks and vodniks, how in any way can you possibly think that isn't helping the squad?

The only time snipers are ever an issue is when you stay still, keep moving and they have a hard job hitting you.

To be honest I don't think I have ever been killed by a sniper while moving around only when standing still.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

I have to agree 100% with shaktiserpent. Sorry Variable. Sniper is my second most played class and I really enjoy doing it.

A GOOD sniper can do a great deal for their team. I've saved many flags from being capped just by stayign at range and picking off multiple enemy troops. Use the right tactics and a sniper should be extremely hard to kill.

The problem is that most snipers are generally noob CS or CoD players who think because they owned in the other game then they'll do the same here. They soon give up and become a medic lol.

My best round as a sniper was one of the shortest ive ever played. I was USMC on Karkand. My team never once captured a flag. Never got close. But who had the top score in the server? ME. Sniped the entire 10mins of the round and made about 35 kills for 4 deaths. How effective is that?

I score around the same number of points per round no matter what class i play. So i dont see how one class can be so much more effective at something than another. Every class is good at something the others are not or it is simply better at the thing than the other classes. A good sniper should never lose a long range fight. Doesnt matter if their opponent is using a rocket or a G36C. The sniper has a scope and if the guy behind the gun knows what they are doing there is no way they will lose.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

Battlefield 2's formula 2 succes is that everthing looks realisctic, has an balanced gameplay (ahum!?!) and the vehicles are easy 2 use. thats the winning team and the very reason why BF2 attracts a lot of players.

Now as i said before it looks realistic and thus is represented realistic, they use different armies, and i ask you what does an army have?...... good a sniper. That's where it all ends because BF2 isn't balanced the sniper has an disadvantage against other classes. ASS i totaly agree with you on that, and i could think of 1 or 2 situation in which i wish a had a sniper, the rest of those situation i could resolve with other classes.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

Normally I would keep my contempt for snipers to myself, but what the hell...

Snipers are worthless in BF2. I hate being killed by those too scared to fight. A video game sniper is about the wackest thing there could be. Especially in a game where the sniper in rendered impotent by the lack of 1 shot kills and poor range/aim/drawdistance. In Soldner, a sniper was a soldier to fear. They were very helpful because they WOULD make people protect thier necks, unlike BF2, where I am not even remotely scared of a sniper.

To those who wanna say how effective they are in real life in combat... A sniper does camp, until they take thier ONE shot. They then disappear, unlike 250% of the snipers in video games. It's is a class for the lazy in video games.

/end rant. Enjoy whatever class you like since you paid for the game.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

Variable, I agree to some extent, but there are two situations in which the snipers can be useful.

                            1. Defending flags
This is especially important on infantry maps, a good sniper hiding outside the base can defend a flag for a long time. Other classes can't do this equally well, as they're not camouflaged, and their muzzle flash gives away their position too easily.

                            2. Squad leader
On some maps, it's very effective to be a sniper when you're squad leading. Say you're lying a few hundred yards off an enemy flag, and your squad keeps spawning on you, trying to assault that flag. As a sniper, you can then give them cover fire and help them conquer the flag. Also, with your claymores, you can secure your back so there wont be any backstabbers coming to hunt you down.

Apart from those two scenarios, I agree that the snipers are rather useless compared to other classes in the game.

Re: Snipers! Just stop it already.

The problem with the sniper class is that your teammates mostlikely dont even know that you just saved their assses, kept a spawn point clean or capt that gunner. Depending on my mood and the situation I choose either my sniper or my support kit. Both favor a completely diffrent playing stlye. While I try to be less visual as possible with my Sniper I often find me rushing at the enemy and dawing some fire from my teammates with my Support class. So dont just generalize "you snipers" :hmm:

There are two possible ways to fight as a sniper and both of them - if done well - prove you to be a valuable asset to your team. If you are playing the lone-wolf you should find youself some unusual locations and dont move unless you are spotted
(note: the enemy commanders scan function realy spoils the fun - if he drops a arty just for you, change to a active class for this round.)
A good sniping spot is not defined by its greate view but by its cover. If you can over see the whole battlefield then the whole battlefield can see you too. So find yourself a dark and narrow alley where a good margin of the enemy has to walk though and cap you heads there. If you feel like you have been compromised or some whacky support/medic of yours just dropped a pile of bags on you - MOVE!
Enemy newb snipers are the best prey for you so make sure that you check "the usual suspects" from now and then.
If there is nothing do snipe for you, SPOT! spot tanks, spot apcs, spot planes, spot choppers, spot anything in your sight that you cant shoot.
Every skilled player has a "anti sniper sollution" for his class - some(med, spec, ass) will go prone and start shooting single fire, some AT guys will try to "snipe back", Assault might nubtube(*1) you and some (Support) will simply run for you. So make sure you deal headshots and/or they cant guess your location.

If you are playing as a squad sniper - yes, some smart people appreciate a (note: SINGULAR!) sniper in their squad - you should always be 2 steps behind your men and on the watch for any people camping in your surrounding (you are a sniper you should "feel" where the enemy could camp)

If you need to draw back from your current location, make sure to drop a claymore behind a corner(NOT in plain sight) - we dont dant to get shot in the back, do we?

The sniper is a valid and usefull class (if not overused).
                                - caps turret gunners
                                - keeps spanpoints clean
                                - spots red ants for you little blue ants down there
                                - and sometimes just ****es off the enemy

You will never get as much kills/support like all the other classes but thats not the point of this class anyways. As a sniper you are grateful for any "BITCH" and "Thanks" you get. (Good) snipers are a valueable asset to your team, just because you dont realize most of their help or because you just dont like them doesnt make them useless.

one last thing... the 92FS/QSZ-92/MR-444 is a GUN. So, if you get into a little f2f with an enemy dont run or jump around like a chicken. Prove that you got balls and aim for the head

Note: the game does have a wide range of one-shot-kill weapons nadetubes (M203/GP25/GP30), AT missiles (SRAW/Eryx), nades, mines, C4, DAO-12 .. .there is no good reason why the M95 should not be one of them.

                                _____________________________________________
*1 yeah killing someone with a M203 on a "sniper range" does need alot of skill
